I found Dr. Weitz after moving to the area about 8 years ago to update my prescriptions for contact and glasses. Pleasant to talk to and seemed to take extra time to make sure my eyesight was 20/20 after correction.
About three years ago, my wife and I were looking into Lasik and he suggested an alternative that promised to be reversible, just as effective, and less costly than surgery: OrthoK - where you wear hard contacts at night and they reshape your cornea so you have perfect vision during the day without having to wear anything. My wife went with Lasik, which he was happy to help with and referred her to a practice that she eventually went with. She had great results. I was a bit more squeamish about the surgery, so I read up more on OrthoK. It seemed like a really good option for me, so he fit me for the lenses and I've been loving the results. About half the price of my wife's lasik and without the need to have my eyes cut open.
It was an adjustment period getting used to rigid contacts after years of soft lenses, but after a week, they were easy to deal with. He was great about answering questions throughout the process and seems to be an expert in the field.
The only concern that I have is that the follow-up OrthoK annual visits are more expensive than a regular contact lens exam - about $300. This covers multiple visits throughout the year, but I've found that my results are so good that I don't feel the need to return that often - I actually forgot about it for two years. The follow-up costs (exams and the lens solution/maintenance) would tend to make it even out with Lasik costs after a few years, so keep that in mind. That being said, I'm really happy with my decision and Dr. Weitz' service.
His new office is slightly larger but more crowded than his old one. The office staff were helpful and efficient. I didn't need to wait long, but there was a nice waiting area with free wifi, which is always appreciated. read more
