I've had 3 surgeries with Stanford: two hip replacements and an ankle fusion. Who did the hips? Dr…read more Derek Amanatullah, who is incredibly skilled. I can't say enough about Stanford Orthopedics from the office folks all the way up to surgeons, you won't find better care and consistency of excellent care. My ankle fusion was done by Dr. Loretta Chou. She is fantastic; other surgeons in my area said they would need to do 5 surgeries over several years. Dr. Chou told me "40 minutes". That was 8 years ago. I'm doing fine. Hips are good. I'm back to doing the activities I enjoy. Stanford has the best staff if you must have surgery. They are very conservative and go to great lengths to make sure you make the right choices to be your best self. Couldn't recommend them more. If you have to stay in the hospital, it is brand new and state of the art; incredible facility. You'll get some sleep there because they try not to bother you nonstop all night long like they do in other hospitals.

I can say that after a year of healing my left hip is doing great. Dr. Hooper performed a total hip replacement on my left hip last March. My experience with her was very good. Her Physicians Assistant, Dorien, was also wonderful. I'm hoping I will never have to have this done again. It was a painful recovery. But I made it through successfully and I'm happy to say, my left hip is feeling good.

This Doctor saved my Life! Literally! I was running 6 miles a day last June 2014. I still look at…read moremy Endomondo sports tracker to prove it to myself. By October I was unable to walk. 2 Epidurals, acupuncture, Reiki, cupping, massage, you name it. The MRI results clearly showed I had a herniated disk that was bulging soooo bad it was literally squeezing the root of my nerve. I couldn't stand, sit or lie down without pain. I became so discouraged to the point where I could not function without pain meds. The pain meds kept me so depressed and in such a dark place. I would drive to my favorite running spot and just cry until the tears no longer flowed. I've never been suicidal but let me tell you, if there was ever a time, I was almost there. This pain turned my world upside down. I isolated myself away from friends and family ( I was the one who threw the parties and entertained on a weekly basis) I finally said enough is enough! Hobbled into Dr. Von Koch's office, I KNEW SHE WAS THE ONE! As of Friday the 18th a day after my surgery, I was Pain Free! I can feel the incision as it heals but believe me, that's NOTHING COMPARED TO THE PAIN I HAD. If you're on the fence thinking about surgery and are afraid. Please please go Talk to this Doctor. Contact me and I will drive you myself ( once I get clearance to drive in a week) now I know this should not matter but the incision is not even an inch. I will be rocking my Bikini without hesitation. Thank you so much for reading this!! I passed quite a few Kaiser hospitals to get to the Redwood City location For damn good reason!!

This is a surgeon you can trust with a scalpel near your spinal cord! Dr. Von Koch was referred to me by the head of the UCSF spine center because I was a member of Kaiser health plan. I didn't know at the time she was part of a neurosurgical specialty hospital which serves the S.F. Bay area. Everyone at this center was friendly, supportive and competent. All the nurses told me Dr. Von Koch was the best surgeon. At 80 years my back had many issues but the most urgent one was stenosis at L2-3 and L4-5. It has been 3 months since my operation and my back is far more flexible. Before the operation for the "bridge pose" I couldn't get my butt more than one inch off the ground. Now I can do a full bridge pose even supported by one leg. I am so very grateful for Dr. Von Koch's skillful surgery.

A few months ago, I stayed at a hotel with VERY firm pillows. After the first night, my neck was…read morestiff...after the second night, it flat out hurt. Over the next few weeks, the pain extended down my left shoulder blade, then through my tricep all the way down to my hand. It eventually got to where a sudden turn of the head, a cough, a sneeze, or even a small laugh would cause excruciating pane. Clearly I had a pinched nerve - I made an appointment with a spine specialist at Stanford. She agreed, and suggested I try PT. My first three weeks of PT were elsewhere....and a complete waste of time. I decided to give Stanford a chance, and made an appointment. After arriving, I had a 20 minute conversation with two therapists....who left the room, discussed, came back in, and told me in no uncertain terms what my issue was, and more importantly, how to resolve it. They walked me through a few exercises, and told me to do them religiously (now, keep in mind, at this point, we're talking over four months of incredible pain). TWO DAYS after doing the suggested exercises, my pain was almost to zero. A week later (and to date), I have a slightly sore neck, but that's it. DEFINITELY worth the pain of travel and trying to find parking during their construction project. Can't recommend them enough..

Terrible communication, unprofessional & mismanaged care…read more !!!!I would leave negative stars if I could!!!! (never left a bad review before) My complaint is not about my actual surgery from Dr. Freehill, but the office's failure to handle routine paperwork and their total disrespect in their absence of communication. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and still have not had my EDD paperwork signed off. I call the office every 2-3 days since my surgery to try and get this. All I am ever told is my message is being flagged as urgent and they will forward it to the clerical team. It took more than 3 weeks for my work disability paperwork to be completed, and when it was finally submitted, it was incomplete and unsigned. My EDD certification is still unresolved six weeks later. I have been unable to receive my disability benefits and my leave of absence was not approved until more than a month after my surgery. I have repeatedly contacted the office, escalated the matter through Guest Services multiple times, and continued to follow up in good faith. The lack of communication and administrative follow-through and negligence is unacceptable. I never wanted to escalate to this level, but, I am stupefied that a reputable institution such as Stanford could allow such a straightforward administrative task to be handled with this degree of mismanagement, negligence, lack of communication, and disregard for the patient.

I have used Stanford health care for many years. Their doctors are usually exceptionally good…read more Dr. Mishra is the exception. At my first appointment, he lectured me on his relationship with his nurse of 20 years. First words out of his mouth. I had said nothing about his nurse who had just showed me to his office and had spoken to me when I made the appointment. He glanced at my knees, which is why I was there, and said nothing. I had x rays taken on my own which showed arthritis near the knee cap. I explained to him a previously seen doctor had removed arthritis 5 years ago and all pain disappeared. He told me to ride an exercise bike and he left the room. I tried riding the exercise bike but the pain continued. He was very angry when I returned for a follow up visit. The second visit was about 5 minutes. He made it very clear he was not interested in helping me with anything. I have reported him to Stanford Health Care.

Dr Mishra is world-renowned for his experience in the treatment of tendinopathies (i.e. tendinitis…read moreand tendinosis), so I felt fortunate to reside in the Bay Area near his services and care. I have consulted Dr Mishra a few times over the past three years and I have always appreciated his attention and detailed explanations of my ailments. It may not seem like he performs all the fundamental clinical tests, but he asks excellent leading questions that uncover the same information. Appointments can be tough to come by, but be persistent and call a few times, as cancellations/rescheduling are common. As of March, Dr Mishra holds clinic two days a week. Navigating to the Menlo Clinic takes some time (and a GPS), but the effort is undoubtedly worth it! Many thanks also to his helpful and responsive medical assistant, James.
