I didn't even see Dr. Wallace this time, but I had a hygienist scrape away at my mouth and tell me that this visit was better than the last: previously I'd taken the advice of not brushing enough to heart and scrubbed away some of my gums. Guess that's bad too. But this time I got better news that my gums had come back a little. I did get the dreaded "you should floss more" talk along with 3 little boxes of dental string in order to do so. Insurance allows me two cleanings per year- I may pay out of pocket and go for a third. $97, according to them. No pressure from them to make that decision even.

Dr. Whitnack is amazing! My husband went to him for a root canal today. It was more complicated…read morethan the typical root canal because it was on a front tooth, and my husband has a bridge attached to that tooth. The slightest misstep on the doctor's part could have led to a broken bridge (which would be another $5K in dental work!). Needless to say, my husband was very nervous. But Dr. Whitnack and his staff were great! My husband said that he didn't even feel the shots to numb his mouth, and HE FELL ASLEEP while the doctor was doing the root canal! There was no pain; Dr. Whitnack was very gentle and very quick. My husband was totally amazed when they told him they were almost done. He has had other root canals in the past that were very painful, and he had expected the same this time - but was very pleasantly surprised! Best of all, the bridge was undamaged, so no expensive work is needed there! We would recommend Dr. Whitnack to anyone who needs a root canal. He did a great job.

I needed a hole in my tooth filled in. I felt all they did was strayed air and said they covered it. Before receiving services I mention to the front desk before doing any procedures I needed to know if there was charges. Well no one notified me and ended up with a bill which my tooth was never taken care of. The front desk lady response was " if you don't pay it I'll send you to collections" never did I say I wasn't going to pay it. The uncomfortableness I experienced with the women in this office was concerning. I genuinely like the dentists, Jennifer is an outstanding hygienist, and Jessica and Mia in the front office have always been wonderful to work with. Unfortunately, since the transition to Vacaville Dental Group, management has changed several times, and the overall patient experience has declined significantly. The biggest issue is appointment scheduling and wait times. For decades, I rarely waited more than a few minutes for an appointment. Now, it seems routine to wait 30 minutes, typically longer. Today was the final straw. My 6 year old daughter had a cleaning scheduled for 9:30 AM, and I had a cleaning scheduled for 10:00 AM. After waiting about 10 minutes, I let Mia know that I had an 11:30 meeting and needed to stay on schedule. She assured me we would be out on time. By 9:55 AM, neither my daughter nor I had been called back. While sitting in the waiting room, I received a text notification stating that my daughter's appointment had been moved to 10:30 AM. At that point, we had already been waiting for over 30 minutes. When I questioned the delay, the new front office manager argued with me and insisted my daughter's appointment had always been scheduled for 10:00 AM, not 9:30 AM. I had text message confirmation showing the original 9:30 appointment time. Rather than acknowledging the scheduling change, she dismissed my concerns and made it seem as though I was mistaken. The interaction felt dishonest, unprofessional, and incredibly frustrating. After 27 years as patients, my husband, my children, my mother, and I have decided to take our business elsewhere. It's disappointing because most of the clinical staff remains excellent, but poor management and a lack of accountability have completely changed the experience. I truly hope Vacaville Dental Group improves its management practices because the dental team deserves better support than what patients are currently experiencing. The tooth had to be removed by an oral surgeon and put on another antibiotic. When I contacted Jason regarding this issue I was told that because the roots were removed there should be no pain and that the root canal was "very well done". Well, let me assure you that an abscess and bone infection do in fact cause pain. It also cost the dentist office to lose my entire family (of 6) as cash paying customers because we will never step foot into this office again. I hope the $3000+ was worth it.

Having said that, he has been practicing for a great many years, so I don't know how much longer he'll be at it, but one thing is for sure - I'm going to be really sad when he calls it quits. If I did not inquire about it, I would not have gotten a small refund. So, if you do not double check they cheating people out of their money. Also, (a separate incident) created an inaccurate estimate for procedure, showing insurance would cover for more than they ended up. Costing me about 9000$ out of pocket for teeth removal. Then, I compared with other dental offices after the fact and they charge 3x the price for a cleaning! The only positive is the staff is nice. But not worth the higher price!
