NEW CUSTOMERS BE ADVISED. I visited this office for a consultation on 11.11.2025 AT 3:00PM regarding gum recession and paid the consultation fee $225.00 out of pocket, since my insurance had already covered. However, on December 3rd, 2025 almost one month after my first appointment I received a call from the office manager stating that I now needed a second consultation with the same doctor, and that I would be charged another consultation fee of $225.00, even though I had already approved moving forward with the gum graft surgery. This additional fee was never disclosed upfront. Had this been explained from the beginning, I would not have scheduled my first appointment and would have chosen a different office. Because of this lack of transparency, I asked them to cancel my account and all future appointments. I will not continue care at an office that is unclear about costs or adds unexpected fees after the fact. I was also told by the provider that she could only perform grafting on the external (cheek-facing) side of the tooth and not on the interior side. After contacting multiple periodontal offices in Sacramento, I learned that other providers are able to perform grafting on both sides when needed. In my experience, this office has been disorganized and unclear. If you are seeking treatment for gum recession or gum graft surgery, I strongly recommend finding a provider who is transparent about fees and fully capable of performing the procedure you need. wish you the best of luck. My sister has been seeing Dr. Nakatani for about two years. At a visit on July 8th my sister's teeth had multiple problems. I asked the dental hygienist, Renee, to fill out the physician form given to me from the senior center where my sister lives. Renee said she was not allowed to fill out the out the form because she is not a physician. Okay. I asked Renee to explain the problems with my sister's teeth. I had to ask multiple times since I didn't understand. I needed to accurately the details so I could explain it to the senior center and to her son. Renee grew very impatient with me. I had trouble understanding because cleaning teeth are not in my field of understanding ( such as cars or PC's) She explained to me what inflammation is. There was a specific problem with her teeth that I did not understand. Renee stated in a harsh, impatient, raised voice..."Just say gingivitis!" All this time she had been talking to me like I was some kind of DUMB SHIT!! I have to have my sister continue to stay with Dr. Nakatani because he has been treating my sister for two years to continue continuity. Even though I was talked to like a DUMB SHIT! I explained to Mai, the receptionist. that your patients are your customers. If they don't treat the patients as customers they will lose business. Dr. Nakatani is not the only periodontist in Sacto. My implants are 32 years old. The hygienist did a very bad job handling the task of cleaning them. I made an official complaint to the office there. There was no need for me to return for that visit, but now it speaks for itself. There is no reason for me to return to this peridontist. read more

My experience with the Dr and his staff was flawless. Dr. Nakatani took time to explain the process carefully, so there were no surprises. The office explained the costs and the insurance benefits which, with minor differences, were accurate. I was impressed with the way the office flowed, was always taken back on my scheduled time, with the work performed on schedule. Requiring an extraction and implant, I made numerous visits to his office, and the staff were prepared for me, with no hiccups. Lots of staff turn over, who doesn't know insurance benefits! Currently, staff named, MAI doesn't know a thing about running the front office or financial management or clients benefits!! Awful! Awful! Last appointment with Dr. Nakatani indicated that he can repair two implants but only repaired one, he stated he cannot repair the other implant and referred back to my primary dentist for treatment!! I recently had gum surgery performed by Dr. Nakatani. The surgery was expertly performed with very little pain both during and after the procedure, and my gums healed quickly. Dr. Nakatani is a pleasure to deal with, totally professional and also just a really nice guy. Dealing with Dr. Nakatani's staff was also fantastic - they processed my dental insurance claim quickly and contacted me right away to apply a credit to my credit card following my dental insurance reimbursement for the procedure. They also worked with me to provide antibiotics to me to tide me over until Kaiser Permanente belatedly supplied me with the antibiotics that had been ordered for me (Kaiser's medications-by-mail system is extremely slow). I've been a repeat customer over the course of several years, having had multiple dental implants in the past, along with a prior gum surgery. I'll be a patient of Dr. Nakatani's for as long as he chooses to continue practicing. I live in Vacaville, so it's a bit of a drive, but it's SO worth it to deal with someone I can trust 100 percent. read more

I created this Yelp account so I could write a review for Dr. Nakatani and his office and as a way to express my deepest gratitude for what he's done for me. I cannot not recommend Dr. Nakatani any higher. I was originally referred to Dr. Nakatani about 11 years ago after having a series of dental implant operations that were poorly performed by another oral surgeon, which had required me to receive new dental implants. Before coming to Dr. Nakatani, I was extremely nervous and wasn't sure if I could trust any oral surgeon to address my complicated dental situation. However, when I first spoke with him, he reassured me that he would do whatever it took to help me. The first procedure he did was a bone graft, which he performed with care and success, and made sure that it fully healed before moving forward with any necessary follow-up procedures. Through his calm, communicative, and thorough approach to his practice, I now have fully functioning implants that allows me to perform daily activities as simple as chewing solid foods, which I wasn't able to do before. Through my experience with Dr. Nakatani and his entire office, I completely trust his team and can say they are fully committed to providing the best care possible. It feels like family every time I visit, and his team has been available, flexible, and professional at all times. I was not satisfied or happy with my experience at Dr. Nakatani's office. I was referred to him through my former dentist (no longer a patient). Dr. Nakatani did the extraction and placed the implant. Everything was fine at this point. Through out the process he had indicated that he was going to do the entire implant. However, when it came time to do the crown I was told I had to return to my Dentist to have her do the crown for the implant. I asked why the change in plans and he and his staff basically didn't have an answer other than that is what is going to happen. It was strange, like I didn't have an option. I got the crown placed by my former dentist and in under two years the implant snapped. It wasn't like I was eating rocks and chewing gravel. I remember the implant felt like it was loose and then it just came out while I was eating a hamburger. I went to my new dentist (who is fantastic - refer to my review). I was referred back to Dr. Nakatani for treatment of the broken implant. I went back and Dr. Nakatani was able to get the implant part out of the abutment. But this is where I feel like I got the run around. He initially said he'd look into whether or not the implant was covered by warranty. He said he'd contact me. I waited and waited and finally I called his office to find out what was going on. The staff acted like I was a nuisance and I was told I had to check with my previous dentist who placed the crown. Well by this time my old dentist said that it was outside of warranty and there was nothing to do but get a new crown. My main problem with Dr. Nakatani's office is that I never felt like my treatment was important to him or his office. When the implant failed it wasn't important enough to him or his office to take the time to find out whether it was covered, what my options might be or even to call me and let me know I had to call my former dentist. Now I need to get a new crown for my implant which will run over $3,000. read more

Dr. Nakatani is the best, most communicative, and least stressful oral surgeon I've ever been to. I had a complicated dental situation that required orthodontia before implants. Dr. Naktani talked me through all the steps, all the options, and all the pros and cons. I was really blown away when he told me that he was in a STUDY GROUP with other dental professionals -- including my orthodontist and general dentist -- to discuss high-difficulty cases like mine. He was patient with my misgivings about the process -- really, I needed braces in my mid-20s? -- and helped me think through what would make sense for me. When it came time for the surgeries, he was quick and professional and listened to me when I had pain (which he quickly fixed). He was careful and cautious -- exactly what someone should be when they're doing a procedure that costs thousands of dollars and should last decades. His staff are great and would communicate with me by phone AND email, which was awesome. They helped me figure out complicated insurance stuff and plan financially for the parents insurance wouldn't cover. I'm very thankful for Dr. Nakatani and thoroughly impressed. I've been seeing Dr. Nakatani since 2009. I have my cleanings done there, as well as extractions, and implants over the years. He's pain free (I swear) friendly, informative, and skilled in his craft. If you have gum problems, he'll help you fix them! Go see him!
