They don't answer the phone but say that's when they're open. No one was there at the desk. A staff member at Hockeytown told me they might be there an 1.5 before a show. So I kill another hour to be safe and come back. Wait in line, buy two tickets for a show in a few weeks. I'm a former customer on their email list. Give my email and they promise to email the tickets. It's a week before the show and I realize I have no tickets. Call the main line, email twice. No response until two days before. They finally send my tickets (no they weren't in my spam folder). I see all the service charges and processing fee bs that I'd get if I bought them online instead of driving there to save the fees. In fact, the charge was MORE than if I had purchased online. I've seen two shows here and like the intimate venue, but won't purchase tickets again until they get rid of their junk fees for in person purchases. In addition, the parking lot nextdoor that's literally connected charges $45 to park for an hour show. More than the cost of your ticket. No thanks.

We started out with Happy Hour at The Fillmore Detroit Bar for food and a refreshing drink. The bar is the former State Bar. It is a cool place to chill and the service was very quick. I had a Watermelon Lemonade Riffresher, chicken tenders and fries. It was an excellent venue for us to hear from author Kamala Harris to talk about her new book, 107 Days. She was delivering a message on her short road to the presidential campaign and the state of affairs today that have many U. S. Citizens feeling emotionally hijacked....but I digress. This was a great opportunity to experience in such a beautiful venue. It truly reminded me of a more intimate Fox Theatre.

Beautifully decorated in the main space with gorgeous art on the walls and ceiling. Getting into the building was another story. Extremely long security lines, lots of steep stairs and semi clean bathrooms. I do understand this is a 100 year old building but some of it felt unsafe. I was seated in the upper balcony which made it hard to hear at times and difficult to see the main stage. There was a wide variety of drink options and food as well. Had a pretty good deal for popcorn and a drink for $10. The facility did its job but there are definitely room for improvements!

I had yet to have an opportunity to go here so I was really looking forward to it. The flyer indicates that doors open at 10:30 for an eleven o'clock start time. The vestibule quickly filled with other attendees and we began to wonder what the delay was. A gentleman introduced himself as Eugene to the crowd and advised that doors actually open at 11 to allow time for the catered food to be brought in and set up. This allows for a smooth experience once guests enter. He indicated that brunch was an additional $20, payable at the time of check-in. After a short time, he came back and we were allowed into the lobby area. There were a few tables set up in the area while we waited for staff to check-in. When checking in and adding the brunch option, I was told $39.31 for my total. Having already paid $5 for the bingo entry, I was confused as to how the $20 price seemed to double. There wasn't a sufficient reasoning offered and given we would be there until 3PM, I opted to pay it. In reviewing my receipt, the charge was $31.20 plus tax AND 20% gratuity added. After checking in we were still held to the lobby area as preference for seating was given to those who had reserved tables to enter first. Once we were able to enter the space and get seated. We learned that there were lines you had to get into to order drinks, so there were no servers. It was after 12 o'clock before we were able to line up for brunch. The narrow hallway we were in was serving multiple purposes. There was a line in the opposite direction leading to a bartender, staff was traveling down the middle of the same hallway to replenish food and those who had their plates also had to travel down the center to get back to their seats. Plates were piled high and food looked delicious. By the time I reached the front of the line, there were only two people serving the food. There were a few options people from my party received that were no longer available. Not surprising given the number of plates I'd seen that had huge portions of items on them. The trap music played during all of this kept the mood light despite the disappointment of how things were going. Bingo only accounted for the last hour or so of the event and was R&B songs not trap. Each person was only provided one board. Some of our party decided to leave so a couple of us ended up with two boards which was the amount we anticipated receiving for the $5 charge. It was never shared what the prize was for winning bingo. Overall the experience was lackluster for me. The food from what I could tell was decent. I had gravy and rice as they had had run out of the turkey meat and shrimp they had for shrimp and grits but they were out of grits. There was acknowledgment on their end that the event experience wasn't up to par. Complimentary tickets to the comedy show later that evening were offered to some patrons. I opted to get one in hopes of a better experience. The check-in experience was much better. Staff never reached our table for us to make any food or beverage purchases. Comedian's performance was phenomenal. After the show, we went over to Day Day's for the after party. We were hungry since we hadn't eaten since earlier. Only bar menu items were available. After waving down a staff member we were told that we needed to go to the bar to order. Fortunately, one of the servers came by a few minutes later and asked if we wanted to order anything. We all got orders of salmon sliders. The portion was ample and the sliders and fries were flavorful. I've heard so many great things about this place so to have experienced all this in one day was extremely disappointing.

It's almost as if they are trying to force people to use the parking lot, another money grab when street parking is much less. The set up inside has been flipped since I was last there as well. Now that they have servers, you can count on their constant walking and talking during the show to take & fulfill orders. The only food options available were pizza (cheese or pepperoni) or popcorn. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza before the show began only to be told that they had sold out despite there being less than 20 people there. Since I didn't want popcorn, I ordered water and a drink (that was very sweet). I had to track down the server after the show ended to pay my bill. She asked if the others at the table (who I didn't know) were still there to pay their bills. After paying, she quickly had to go find them because a number of people had already left. There were even issues with the mic. It kept going in and out with the first comedian. Shortly after the main act began, the cord completely fell out the bottom of the mic. I have never seen anything like that before during a performance. It was quickly swapped out for another mic. But I was embarrassed for them. Been over a year since I had been there. Despite wanting to support shows at smaller comedy venues, I don't know if I will be back anytime soon.

I've been singing karaoke since 1997 and no place I've been to can rival the talent that walks through these doors. Many wonderful voices at Bert's. As for the food and service, it leaves quite a bit to be desired. First of all everything is expensive which isn't the issue but just brace yourself for high prices. Second the service is almost nonexistent. I came here for two weeks in a row. Karaoke starts roughly at noon and goes until 7 PM. So it's a long show. Got here both times when it started so our group could get a table. First week the service was decent and our waitress had our drinks out pretty fast considering how busy it was. I ordered the chili cheese fries and got a massive amount on my plate. It was $12 but I had more than half left to take home with me. My friend ordered the half slab of ribs with greens and Mac n cheese as sides. The following Saturday it took 20 min for a server to even take our drink orders then another 30 min to get the drinks even though the bar is close to all the tables. The food was dumped no front of us in to go containers. When I asked why it was in Styrofoam since we were dining in our waiter said we only do Styrofoam we don't do dine in. Funny because last week everyone was served on plates. It gets worse. The burger which is supposed to be a half pound and is $15 was no bigger than a McDonald's hamburger patty and well done (I ordered it medium). Like hockey puck well done although a hockey puck is much thicker so that would've been more welcomed. After waiting two hours to get our food we were just happy to have something in front of us. It was like one week to the next was night and day different. When it was time to pay it took our server 50 min to cash us out and run my debit card. Some one at another table we were chatting with could see how long this was taking and got up to find our waiter and get me back my debit card so we could finally leave. Totally unacceptable service. I think the answer, fellow Yelpers, is go to Bert's for the entertainment. The karaoke show alone is worth seeing. Skip the food and maybe sit at the bar for faster service or be prepared to wait a while to get drinks.
