Shanghai Delight serves up hundreds of Chinese takeaways every day and is always mobbed yet the food is always very good. I am not saying it is sit down city centre quality, but very few takeaways are. It is though very good at what it does do. Personal favourites are salt and chilli chips, salt and chilli chicken, chopped ribs in black bean sauce, beef Kung po, beef curry and chicken satay. None of these of course are advised as part of any healthy diet plan that I can imagine and are probably far from authentic. But they do taste very good. Owned by a husband and wife who have lived here for year originally born in Hong Kong, the husband the head in the kitchen you sometimes hear chatting in Cantonese to the rest of his crew he never crosses over. Occasionally the wife is on the desk she very friendly speaks English but only to the punters. A couple times a year they will close for a couple of weeks where there take a holiday a go back to HK to visit family. The Cafe's still there, it was closed when I headed down today but I think I may pop in again some day for a brew. It reminds me of my school days of going down the street for my lunch. Hanging around about Asda looking and buying things we've no need for. This was also a fun past time when I used to be part of the management committee at the Terminal One Youth Centre across the road. I still can't believe they made this Asda 24 hours, is there seriously people who want to head to shop in Blantyre at 3 in the morning?! I've no idea but I know I certainly wouldn't. Also why they built a Hamilton 24hr Asda when the Blantyre one's been there for 30 years. Suppose the Hamilton one does have more stuff in it like clothes and electrical etc. Well I did mange to get my dad a new ariel for his tv so he was mighty pleased. You do manage to get most things from there but it is normally for the groceries. I do have one gripe with them at the moment since they've did away with the deli counter. You now can only buy packs of meat slices, which cost a fortune, £3 odd for several slices, I don't think so. I miss the counter where you could just order what you need, maybe 1 or 2 slices. There's still some kind of counter and that's where I asked about single slices, even the women agreed that they shouldn't have did away with the deli. Ah well maybe it will work, maybe it won't only time will tell. It was the same when all those self checkouts came into play. Don't even get me started on them. Also what's with the staff being made to have big hand signs with 'space here'?! Maybe it's to give them jobs when they lost out to the self checkouts. Some people's crazy ideas eh?! Asda Blantyre's customer service has went over & beyond to help me this morning.i made an order to…read morecollect then I had to cancel the order as it wasn't what was needed.i must not have cancelled it right coz the order went ahead.i phoned the number given online(0800 number) & I found the woman I talked to not much help so I phoned the store & the guy I talked to was amazing.Really helpful nothing was too much trouble & he had it sorted within a minute.Then I got a phone call from a lovely lady to ask if I couldn't get up for it they would deliver it for me.Amazing customer service & nothing was too much trouble for them,love that this store still puts customers needs first.

It is well laid out and clean and tidy. The staff are helpful and well turned out. It is a busy store which is always a good sign. There are good transport links if you don't drive. It is easy to get to and pretty central to Blantyre and East Kilbride alike. There is a variety of discounted and branded foods, but always compare prices, it does not always work out to be cheapest. Nowadays I always drop in at lunch times for a couple of rolls and sausage with brown sauce, mmm! The bakery has been family run since for ever, staff are helpful and friendly, and there is always a queue. It sells hot filled rolls and pastries such as pies etc, as well as freshly baked cakes.
