I always love a good Mi Rancho. The food here was spectacular and did not disappoint! Yummy flavor and I asked for side of beans. Must have a side of beans! I ate as much as I could. It was very good. The issue I had and sorry to tell the story, but there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. Lucky for me, I'd rather pee by a tree than use a porta John, I have no issue with that when im hiking! But this is a restaurant and I expect toilet paper. Walking into the bathroom, it was tight. Like, smaller than a broom closet. No problem, but there was no toilet paper, also again lucky for me, there was a paper towel machine I could reach from the seat, in this very tiny spot. I waved my hand and paper towels came out. I went to wash my hands and the sink nearly came out of the wall. No exaggeration. I would eat here again, but probably use gas stations bathroom first and bring hand sanitizer. read more

Stopped in on Father's Day for dinner for just 2 of us. When we arrived we were seated quickly and offered complimentary chips and salsa. The restaurant was clean and spacious. Our food and drink order was taken and arrived quickly. Overall it was wonderful! Parking was a breeze as well - there is a private parking lot available for use with handicap spots right at the front door. There are several other locations for Mi Rancho (Verona and Staunton for instance) however I've only visited the FISHERSVILLE location this far and love it. read more

Don't be fooled by the looks of the outside. While visiting Virginia we happened upon Mi Rancho in Fishersville. My husband and I have a Mexican restaurant we frequent often in our hometown in Maryland. We were afraid Mi Rancho wouldn't be very good, considering the outside of this restaurant looks drab and pretty run down. But, don't be fooled. The inside is extremely clean and put together. The menu has ALOT to offer and everything was very reasonably priced. My husband ordered the shrimp chimichangas and I had the chicken fajita quesadilla. Both dishes were excellent. Fresh, hot and delicious. Mi Rancho brings you hot tortilla chips and salsa upon being seated for no charge. I had dinner here with a party of 5 during a recent ski trip in the area. The food was not bad. But, the service was the worst I've seen in a long time. Our first clue that we had a bad waitress is when she forgot to give us chips and salsa after taking drink orders. When we reminded her 20 mins later, she said "more chips?". She had no clue she never gave us chips in the first place. Later, we had items from our order missing. We finally helped our waitress sort that out. Later, we asked for the check. We had to ask 3 times and waited 30 minutes for the check! It gets worse... she gave us the wrong bill! Then she gave us another wrong bill. Then she gave us yet ANOTHER wrong check (3 wrong checks!!!!). Finally, the manager came to our table and asked us what we ordered so she could generate a brand new bill. Service was so disorganized that it gave everyone at our table anxiety. My SO and I were camping in the mountains an hour and a half away when he became deathly ill and was transferred to Augusta Health from Bath County. He was admitted for a few days and forbidden to eat anything, so I have to find some "not too expensive" places nearby to eat. I am not a fan of chain restaurants so I always try to find a local place to try. About a mile away from the hospital, I spy Mi Rancho which was cheaper than sushi and had decent reviews. I ordered the steak fajitas to go so I can get back to my SO (and eat in front of him while he gets his stomach pumped). The order comes with tortillas, guac, sour cream, Refried beans, rice and a side of chips and salsa. The chips were decent; they were on the thicker side and were warm and crunchy. The salsa tasted like a home style version of tostitos salsa. The sour cream was not crema, but American-style sour cream (Mexican sour cream or "crema" tends to be richer and thinner than regular sour cream; it makes a big difference!) The guac and pico de gallo were unremarkable and had no lime (but I have to point out the current lime crop failure this season). The tortillas were from a bag, and the steak fajitas itself was chopped thinly and cooked to well done with the peppers, tomatoes and onions which is not how I prefer steak fajitas. From what I can tell, this cut comes from a round which is OK for how it's cooked (greasy and wet, so well done was not a death sentence) but as a red meat loving gringo I like a medium rare skirt steak for my fajitas. The rice was just as bland as it looks. The meal was decent for what it's worth and it's price point. It was definitely on the bland side, by I can't blame the only Mexican restaurant in a small town for being bland if they want to keep their doors open. Back where I'm from in Montgomery County, Maryland we are so spoiled by variety and choice it seems unfair to compare our food with theirs. My general opinion is that "ethnic" food in small towns tend to be a no go unless they're known for said cuisine. With a minimal minority population and about one or two Mexican restaurants in town, can we really blame a restaurant for not making fresh, homemade tortillas or having real crema rather than American sour cream from a tub? Long story short: good for what it is, but if you make it out of small town america, there definitely are better options out there. read more

Very good salsa with hot & fresh tortilla chips. They also serve glass bottle coke. That was cool also. Next we ordered melted cheese to with are salsa and chips. Not good at all. It was so watery. Nacho cheese should not be the consistency of pouring water. I ordered a taco salad with beef meat. My coworker got the 2 beef taco combo with a side of guacamole. The food was not good and the ground beef was awful. Not sure if it was old but it didn't sit well on neither one of our stomachs. And the guacamole was a joke. I am from the Southwest and frankly Mexican food in the South is lacking. We were heading home getting hungry and passing Waynesboro and thought let us see what is available. This place had a high rating (experience has told me, that might not accurate). It was near closing but we did not get the bum's rush. Full menu was still available the service was great! Much to our surprise and delight the food was great. Usually I check out the specialties cause they are usually much better, but the test of a good Mexican place is the combination dinners. Went here with a friend on the recommendation of others on Facebook. This place is awesome. It was a quiet evening when I went. My friend had the chimichangas, and I had a tortilla stuffed with chicken and rice and served with pico de gallo and sour cream (I can't remember the name of my entree). Both of us gave our selection rave reviews. I also had a margarita, which was definitely top notch. $5.00 for a pretty big margarita. As far as service, the servers were very attentive and friendly, and the food was out quite quickly. I also found it neat that with the chips, they give you the chips in a basket, a small bowl, and then the salsa is in a little tiny juice carafe. Have never seen this before, but I liked it. Im originally from Southern California but had to move to Lexington to attend W&L Law. We are definitely spoiled in CA as to the quality of Mexican food we get. Plus, I am a big fan too, so I am usually picky. I was in Staunton and got a craving for Mexican food, yelped and found this spot. Mi Rancho was decent for a road-trip dinner for our family of three. We were staying at the Hampton Inn nearby on a Friday night, and wanted an inexpensive dinner. Yelp reviews written by Southern Californians swayed us to try Mi Rancho. We arrived at 7:30 p.m. to the restaurant lively but not crowded. My son and I ordered the fish tacos. Three soft tacos (flour tortillas) came warm in a foil pouch. The tilapia was roughly cubed and seemed to have been sautéed with a pico de gallo mixture. The tacos came with a generous plate of chopped lettuce, guacamole, chopped tomatoes, and sour cream, as well as rice. Overall, they were good and the $9.99 price tag seemed fair. My husband had the veggie fajitas. The strangest thing about them was that they did *not* come to the table sizzling on a cast iron plate, as we are used to fajitas being presented. The peppers, onions, and mushrooms were sauteed in the kitchen and presented on a ceramic dinner plate, and did not look that appetizing, really. They were only $8.50, but still: other people's plates of fajitas arrived sizzling! There is a kids menu with choices that include non-Mexican foods, including hot dogs, fries, and cheese sticks. The decor is kitschy, but not terrible. Service was friendly. I'd go again and order different entrees, to see what they are capable of. read more

Quick summary: decent food that could be better because I've had better. Also I wouldn't trust the sauces presented on the table. Looked old and tasted a little weird though I'm not dead so. Ate here yesterday with some friends and wasn't expecting much considering nothing seemed to beat my favorite Mexican restaurant and possibly my favorite restaurant of all time, La Carreta. Compared to that, Mi Rancho was decent but could be better. First off, the free salsa was not bad. Chunky, and a little spicy, but doesn't even top my favorite salsa and out of all the salsa I've had, this was on the lower end. It's not bad though. What was bad is we ran out of chips and salsa and so when asked if we wanted more chips, we only got more chips and never got more salsa (though we never asked for more.) So to add flavor to the chips, (which were good but not salted but it doesn't need to be salted because the salsa adds the flavor) I turned to the four hot sauces on the side of the table. Yeah, I wouldn't exactly trust the sauces. They all looked old and possibly out of date. They had a little bit of a weird taste to them and none were hot at all. If they're supposed to taste like that, then I don't really like the taste myself. Once the food actually came, the food was, again, decent but could be better. I got the chicken enchilada and burrito and it was alright. The sauce poured on top could be better and I feel the chicken could've and should've had more flavor than it did. Also the one piece of lettuce on the meal had that mild bitter taste. Curious about my friends' meals I stole some of there food. One person got a taco salad and it ended up not sitting well with her. I liked it though I mainly tasted bean to to me it was a bean dip in a taco bowl. My other friend got the most expensive meal out of all of us and that was the steak fajitas. That was excellent and makes me wish I got that instead. That had the most food as well as the most flavor. Overall the 2 hours spent was due to waiting a while for the food (It was packed so the wait was understandable) and while I don't regret coming here, I'd very easily just drive my friends an hour and a half to my favorite local Mexican restaurant, because it'd be worth the trip. If you're in the area, this isn't a bad choice. Just don't expect the best. But at least expect good to decent. read more
