YUMMMM!! I love torchys and think their food is really solid for Tex Mex. There are certainly great options in town for authentic tacos and Mexican food but torchys hits the Tex Mex itch when you want it I am a fan of just their regular pork taco with onions cilantro white cheese and verde salsa. Can't be beat! Although I will say I think the tacos are a bit pricey running between $6-8 a piece. The burritos are the bomb. I usually get pork, rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheese and think they are totally delicious. The breakfast burrito they offer is also awesome and is one of our favorites. Overall, the food here is totally solid for Americanized Mexican food. If you like chipotle I would say give this a try! read more

I stopped in with a couple others for a late afternoon snack. Ordering at the counter kiosk was easy. Our food was brought out when ready. I had the Brushfire-Jamaican jerk chicken, mango, sour cream, cilantro on a flour tortilla with a side of Diablo sauce. One of the others ordered the green chile pork as a bowl and the other ordered the crossroads as a bowl. Everyone really enjoyed their choice! My taco had a very generous amount of chicken. The Diablo sauce was spicy and a great add-on. Definitely lived up to the three torches! Atmosphere is very casual. Service was super nice and even gave us a few bags of complimentary tortilla chips. Happy Cinco de Mayo! A buddy of mine in from Brussels really missed tacos and Torchy's in Charlottesville served as the de facto taco place for this meetup. The chips were salted and the salsa was ever so subtly spicy. I ordered a Torchy's Paloma. This drink uses Exotico's habanero infused 100% pure agave tequila and some grapefruit juice was mixed to make a solid CdM libation. Very tasty. The Taco of the Month here was the Tokyo Drifter. The TD has teriyaki glazed pulled pork and topped with a fresh and tangy sweet & sour veggie slaw and cilantro on a flour tortilla. It was a meh...the pulled pork wasn't that tender on this particular visit. I also tried the Mr. Orange, the salmon wasn't as blackened as I've had once upon a time. Also it may have been slightly overdone. but the black bean and grilled corn relish was piled on along with the corika cheese. It was also not as good as I've had. Finally, I tried the Cross Roads taco. This is Torchy's Texas brisket taco. It has onions, jalapeños, cilantro, and avocado, dizzled with tomatillo sauce. It has the potential, but the dry brisket lacks the punch. There's a lot of flavor that the tacos at Torchy's tries out...so work out well, others less so. The service was good. Our orders came to us well before the buzzers went off. The tables were bussed as we finished our meals so we didn't have to struggle with empty baskets. I always enjoy their unique aguas frescas, like their strawberry hibiscus, limonada, and mango...yes, they have soad if you want, too. This location has indoor and outdoor seating. Stopped for dinner after a meeting in Charlottesville, because we both felt like Mexican. This is a little different than your typical Mexican restaurant though. We had no idea what we were doing, so it took us a minute to look over the menu. The guy who took our order said the tacos were very big, so most people just order two. At least that's what both my Wife and I heard. I think what he meant, was that they are NOT very big....because they weren't. My wife had the Fo Sho and Fresh Avocado tacos, and I had the Trailer Park and the Brushfire tacos. We also order an appetizer of guacamole and chips. She was not very happy with her tacos, as they were on corn tortillas. She just didn't read that far down in the description. Mine were both on flour tortillas, and they had a good taste. They just don't put many ingredients on them. And for $6+ per taco, it's a little pricey. However, I will say, the guac & chips were very good. We had a very mediocre experience and food at Torchys. The staff was super friendly, which I loved and the ordering system was easy. The food was very bland. I did not like the salsa at all and when I asked for hot sauce I got a thick Franks type sauce that was hard to spread. Would not recommend the food. read more

Wow! Torchy's blew me out of the water. I went in the other day on a Thursday, when I was having a bad day. I'd had a horrible headache and was just hoping for a cheesey cure, and was met with the friendliest service and great food. The servers are not only great, they're kind, thoughtful, and attentive. You never realize how much of a difference that can make until it happens! The food is excellent too. I'm a favorite of the breakfast tacos, which you can customize to you own specifications. The egg and cheese with onions is my favorite! And the chips and queso is a can't miss, the perfect level of spice and cheesy goodness. I'm new to town and stopped here for lunch recently. My new favorite place for sure. Great decor and vibe. I had a fajita chicken taco and it was amazing. I only needed one since it was so full of delicious ingredients. The lemonade was perfect. We also shared chips and queso and the tots. Yummy. The drink menu looked great and we will be back to try some another time. But what truly sets this place apart from anywhere else I have eaten in the area so far is the service. In particular, there is a gentleman who cleans the tables and takes care of guests. I believe his name is Raz. This man is a treasure. So kind and gracious. Food is always good. I'd say most people would be full on two or three tacos. If you get a burrito, it's pretty filling. The avocado taco is better than their faux meat vegetarian option. It has been LOUD every time I have gotten there. Always double check you've received the right order or be prepared for an immigrations checkpoint-style interrogation to prove they forgot a taco or fountain drink cup. We don't have a Torchy's back home, so I made it a point to get some breakfast tacos a couple of days ago. The kitchen seemed slammed when I arrived in the morning, so it took a while to get my pick-up order ready. The workers were friendly and checked up on me. I was anxious because I was running late. I got the food home, and everything was to our liking. The brisket breakfast taco was pretty tasty and a nice change-up from normal breakfast meats. I also got the migas. They threw super crunchy tortilla strips onto the taco. It added corn flavor and a bunch of texture. We asked for a ton of sauce, and they gave it to us. So kudos to them. read more

If nothing else, get their award-winning queso. I don't even like queso bc it gets coagulated at other places. But Torchy's queso arrives and stays a more liquid texture and the flavor is absolutely awesome. The ambience of the restaurant is really fun and the service is great. However, I give them 2 out of 5 on my VegScale™, which is my personal rating system for how vegetarian friendly a restaurant is. This VegScale™ rating is why I am docking two stars from my overall review. They used to have a taco called MoFeux that was made with cowboy-style Beyond Beef. Had they kept it on the menu, I would likely have given a 5-star review bc that taco offered a good protein source besides beans (which - ask any vegetarian- are a side dish). Now the MoFeux taco has been replaced with yet another avocado taco called Fo Sho. So, to be clear - if you are a vegetarian, your choices will be a fresh avocado, fried avocado, or dressed-up avocado taco. This menu development is disappointing considering that meat-eaters have the choices of fried chicken, marinated and grilled chicken, Jamaican jerk chicken, beef barbacoa, smoked beef brisket, marinated and grilled steak, fajita steak, smoked beef brisket, green chile pork, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, and blackened salmon. Torchy's - do you see how this is problematic? You give meat-eaters 12 different options for a protein source and you give vegetarians...avocados. Please bring back the MoFeux taco. This is so tone-deaf in 2024 as more and more people are turning to plant-based diets for health reasons or out of concern for the environment. Fortunately, there are a lot of other restaurants in Charlottesville that offer excellent plant-based meals. Torchy's ain't it. read more

Torchy's Tacos...amazing! I had heard about them from a friend who is from Dallas, and she said they had amazing tacos. She was absolutely right!! She recommended that I try to queso, and it was delicious, plus it came with a large basket of nacho chips, that were also fresh and quite good. I tried the Democrat and the Crossroads, and both were absolutely phenomenal. I've found a lot of taco places to be disappointing, but not Torchy's. It definitely lived up to the hype! My son goes to UVA, and he's happy to have found a really good spot to get tacos. read more
