Passing through town and stumbled on this place on a Sunday evening when lots are closed. We were surprised with bottomless and 3 kinds of salsa. Mild, Spicy, and a mushroom salsa. AWESOME!!! This was a convenient location to our hotel, and also had some high ratings on Yelp. We get that Covid has affected a lot of things, and are very understanding of wait times, etc. However serving a raw tamale is unacceptable in any restaurant. Also not having enchilada sauce on enchiladas (how??) and really watery beans on a tostada. I don't think these are all effects of Covid, just bad service/cooking. My husband and I went here on a weekday during a slower time of the year, so didn't deal with any kind of crowd. Staff were super accommodating and let us sit up in the bar area to watch Monday night football...we were the only ones up there. The menu was pretty extensive and moderately priced. The best thing I've ever seen was when they brought all 5 kid's food out first before the adults! The kids were instantly distracted and happy and the adults were able to enjoy their food. Solid Mexican restaurant outside of Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. Portions are plentiful and tasty. Homemade chips and tortillas- the corn tortillas were delicious. I've come through Montrose multiple times this past month and this is the third time I've eaten here. Service is outstanding, atmosphere in and out solid and menu is robust. Had fajitas first time, combo platter w relleno, tamale and enchillada second and now pollo poblano. All are excellent and very worth the price. As well, the margaritas are quality and good size for the price and the free chips and salsa also quite quality. I will definitely prioritize this place on future trips through Montrose. It's perfect, you can't ask for a better Mexican restaurant out here. The service was extremely fast, despite the parking lot being completely full and almost every table occupied. The beers were cold and served in a frosted glass every time, and the margaritas were taaasty (and while a spicy margarita is not on the menu, they will make it for you!). The food was delicious - everything our party ordered was fantastic. They even have a vegan options (veggie fajitas) if you say no sour cream. Very impressed! our to go order (because of the 'rona)was fresh and delicious when we brought it home. I got the steak fajitas, and the flavors blew my mind. My friend got the chicken enchiladas. Those were smothered in a delicious red sauce and melted cheese. I think they broiled them for a minute because the cheese was a beautiful golden color. Portions were also very generous. Vomitous slop! I paid $21.95 for the Siete Mares specifically because the photo on the menu showed a whole cluster of snow crab and the description did not include octopus, which I hate. The ingredients listed included crab, clams, mussels, scallops, calamari (which is squid NOT octopus), and fish. The dish came out with two tiny crab legs, two tiny clams, one mussel that was as tough as steak, five of the tiniest scallops I have ever seen, and some actual calamari, but 90% of it was nasty farm raised tilapia and octopus. There are several Mexican food places in town, but this is by far my favorite! Some of the best mild and spicy salsa ever! My first visit there last year, I ordered a plate with a chile relleno. When we first started going to Mi Mexico a few years ago it was our "go to" Mexican restaurant. However, lately the last few times we ate there the food seemed to be going downhill. Our last time was last Monday evening. The service is very nice but the food was not. My husband ordered the burrito special. It arrived room temperature. The beef was over cooked and tough. Usually when our food arrives the server warns us of the hot plates but these plates were not hot at all. I ordered chicken enchiladas. Again the food was not hot and barely room temperature. The chicken was dry and was in big tough chunks instead of tender and shredded as it used to be. The enchiladas were bland and the sauce had no flavor. Even the tortillas seemed stale. I have many Mexican friends and have spent lots of time in Mexico cooking with them. The only good thing about the dinner was the usual salsa and mushroom bowls and chips. The best tacos in this town that I have had are at at little hole in the wall on Main----El Gordo. My husband likes the burritos there because they will make them "to order" and they do the same for their tacos. You can watch them make them as their kitchen is open to the dining area and the cook will fix them anyway you like. It is a simple place with a limited menu but good quality and the food is fresh. read more

Not a good experience from the start. Food was mediocre at best. The divorced enchiladas looked and tasted like Casa Bonita food. My mom's had food poisoning symptoms the whole evening after. Our server had a bad attitude even mumbling under his breath as he walked away. I guess our party of 10 was too much for him. The kids waited more than 10 minutes for drinks. And then the server refused to light the candles on my daughters birthday cupcakes. The other servers commenting in Spanish as we sang happy birthday was equally unimpressive.
