I have read all the previous reviews and in fairness wanted to give another perspective. Our experience with MHI overall was wonderful. This is the 3rd house we have built, so are somewhat familiar with the process of errors and things overlooked along the way. In contrast I think to some of the previous reviews though, major concerns and issues we had along the way, were addressed quickly and professionally. Our sales counselor changed about the time they poured our foundation, and as a result had a sit down meeting with Alex, and our new counselor Cheryl. Our experience with Alex was great. He was neither or difficult. In fact, Alex ended up honoring some mistakes made by our original sales rep at a significant cost to MHI. Throughout the construction process, as we encountered issues (some were small, some were big) , we took them to Cheryl, and everything we needed or wanted done was done. We did end up having to pay the $200 change fee, but we were told by Alex and Cheryl from the beginning that once we finalized the contract and they started construction that fee would apply to any changes we made later on. So for us at least it wasn't an arbitrary fee, we knew would have to pay it if we made changes once they were working, and Alex made every attempt to go through the contract line by line to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted in order to AVOID having to pay this later on. They sketched drawings, made notes, did everything possible to make sure they were clear on our expectations to avoid any change fees later. I can honestly say the change we ended up making once construction had started was something overlooked by us, and the framers had to come back out as a result...so I felt like the change fee was fair, especially considering I knew about it from the beginning. We have been in the home for 3 months, and so far all our warranty issues have been dealt with promptly. As far as closing is concerned, we were also told that all our issues needed to be resolved prior to closing...which makes sense right? Before closing it is their house, and their problem, if you sign off that they have done everything on the list, then close. If they haven't done everything on the list, then there is no way I would close on the house. The builder has to be given time before closing to fix the things on the list. If it isn't done, then don't close! I can't fault Alex or anyone for not wanting someone to close on a house they were not satisfied with. Probably best to close once all your various issues are resolved, even if it means you don't get to close at the time you had originally planned. There are issues along the way with building any house, but we had a great experience, were treated very fairly, and would recommend them to anyone who asked. read more
