We were greeted last night and noticed the restaurant was hoppin'! We'd made reservations and were seated promptly ay 6:15. Our server, Jamard, greeted us! He provided an extraordinary experience. We had the grilled asparagus app, the salmon and a tagliatelle for our mains, and many cocktails. The whole experience was amazing. Jamard provided such warm and engaging service. He is so, so passionate about what he does and you can tell in his mood, interactions, and menu suggestions. As a not so side note, I came in with my same-sexed partner, we are an obvious couple. Sometimes we don't feel completely welcomed by businesses. Every single person we encountered, from staff to guests were so lovely and warm. This is such a rare experience in Stockton. We felt like we were in another city! Our experience at Mezzo last night, for our first kid free date night in a long while, was top notch. Mezzo is now our favorite place! After what we thought was excellent food and service the waiter came over to our table and told us to leave if we weren't going to buy anything thing else. We were there barely 90 mins and spent over $200 plus a generous tip. There were at least three empty tables and no one waiting in the lobby. What we thought was a great dining experience while working out of town turned out to be one of the rudest experiences we've ever encountered. We were not using bad language or acting out in any way. So very disheartening to be treated in this manner. Clearly this restaurant does not value customer experience. So very disappointed. We ate there last night and sat on the patio. Very nice and comfortable out there. The service was excellent. Our server Mia was very good and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed, I had the seafood special and my wife had the charcuterie and both were excellent. After we had finished eating, Chef Ruby came out and talked with us and the rest of the people on the patio. A great Chef and very nice person. After we finished we moved inside to the bar for a glass of wine. Our bartender Christopher & Jymard were both very pleasant and nice to converse with. This was our first time here. The staff was excellent and the food was very good. I found the prices fair. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is my wife and I were on a date and we were placed at a table in the middle of the small restaraunt which put us very close to the bar. It was Friday night and crowded so this made our table very loud. I know next time to ask for a table by the window or on warmer nights to sit on the patio. I've visited this illustrious site of business multiple times and after every visit, I've always left with a great deal of satisfaction and delightment. Not only do they serve some of the finest Italian cuisine I've ever had the pleasure of consuming, and not only do they serve some of the finest drinks in Stockton, but they also happen to house some of the most welcoming and kind-hearted staff I've ever been given the liberty of meeting. Our server Shekinah was beyond great. She was extremely attentive, immensely polite, and provided customer service so great it could almost make a grown man cry. Came here at the recommendation of a colleague and am so glad I did. *Friendly service at the bar *Crazy good bread with addictive olive dipping oil *The most delish salad I have had in a very long time (and I eat a lot of salad). A huge bowl of watermelon, tomatoes, cantaloupe, cucumber, thin sliced red onion, almonds, soft feta, and (genius move) pickled peppers. I asked for dressing on the side and am glad I did. Though it was really tasty, the salad was amazing even without it. I added salmon ($10) and it was a large piece, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. I wish I could eat this salad every single day. Not sure when I'll have a chance to return to Stockton, but I would definitely return to Mezzo. read more

Shekinah was my server and she was absolutely amazing! She was well versed in the menu and provided great wine and cocktail pairings for our meal. Took my mom here for mother's day and it was HORRIFIC. They had a special menu for the day with not that many items and it was only brunch. You would think that they order enough for the day especially if they change the menu, but that wasn't the case. Two of the items my mom wanted they ran out. So it made the menu even SMALLER. Then my dad ordered steak and sunny side up eggs. He requested medium but it came back well done! We told our waiter and she just stood there and she didn't believe my dad that he asked for medium. Then she just stood there looking at us until we asked her to bring it back to the kitchen. Then she did that with attitude. She came back with the steak looking better BUT did not inform us that they ran out of sunny side eggs and gave us scrambled eggs instead. She could have at least told us beforehand so we can maybe replace it with something else! She had attitude with us from the very beginning! I understand there can be kitchen issues but at least treat the customers nice! The manager came at the end and apologized which was nice but that doesn't make up for the whole experience that we had for this special day! We also live locally in the area so it's disappointing to know that this place nearby will not be a go to. :/ I understand mistakes happen but when the server is rude to us from the moment we sat down, that's not acceptable on top of everything else. read more

I've been hearing great things about this place for years and we finally had the chance for dinner and it was disappointing. We had the calamari appetizer which was great and we should've stopped there. My husband ordered the veal and it was mostly a large helping of Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. I got the salmon which was huge but it was was overcooked and dry. If it had some kind of sauce on it, it would've been better. Also, my potatoes were raw. read more

Came here with my daughters for the first time for my wife's birthday. Loved the vibe of the place. Not too big, not too small. Fairly long wait but I got the feeling that was because great care was being taken with the food. The wait was worth it as my meal braised ribs and pasta was excellent. I had a reservation for 7:30, didn't receive food until 9:05 (after asking multiple times and being given different answers each time). Our table was told that we would receive our food within a minute yet 15 mins later nothing was brought to us. When we asked again we were told that half of our entrees were ready and the other half were still being cooked. This was highly frustrating and multiple tables that came after us received their food before. I wish we could have a better experience. read more

We were greeted with a smile by the gracious hostess. The restaurant had just opened for dinner and it was already bustling.  JT at the bar moved with the grace and speed of a knowledgeable yet playful bartender; the slightly dirty martini was Vegas grade! Customers were celebrating all around us in a place that instantly made us feel welcome. We ordered the Carpaccio and the Swordfish Special. We watched as the Chef and small multi-ethnic culinary crew moved with the focus and precision of natural born taste chemists. Conversations flowed and we met a wonderful gentleman who had brought fresh mint from his plot to share with the restaurant. Yeah, this is a place where the Loco Locals in Stockton gather, for sure! The Carpaccio had the right balance of deliciousness between the arugula, shaved beef, seasoning, and unexpected pine nuts. Chef Ruby Lopez definitely knows what she is cooking in this amazing, perfectly sized, Mediterranean influenced, Italian eatery. Originally from Lodi, starting as a dishwasher, inspired by her need to support her child, Lopez is now artistically working her magic at this surprisingly good restaurant.  The Swordfish was perfectly cooked and spectacular, with the right notes of sweet and savory elements. Stopped in for drinks, and had a great experience. The young lady at the door was professional, and made me feel welcome even though I let her know I wouldn't be dining, and just grabbing a drink. Ordered several of their specialty cocktails, and they were well executed. Bar was well-stocked with the sorts of spirits I expect from somewhere with a "cocktail program." Their juices were fresh, including fresh grapefruit - a personal favorite that isn't always available at other places that fresh-squeeze citrus. The Paper Plane and The Last Word, two classics I've had many times at many bars, were excellent. I also tried a couple drinks I had not had before, and they were made with the same care as the classics with which i am familiar. I didn't order any food, but several other patrons at the bar did. The dishes looked attractive, and smelled delicious. I did have some of their house made foccacia, which is served with tapenade and good olive oil. The quality of the olive oil stuck out because so often I find this is somewhere that restaurants skimp. I look forward to returning to try more cocktails, and for dinner. read more

In a nutshell?: Excellent meals shared with great friends in a very comfortable setting. Mezzo was good before the pandemic but it's even better now. The menu has been condensed and they seem to be focusing on several entrées the kitchen prepares really well: pasta, veal, salmon, risotto.....with the perfect sauce for each and focaccia for mopping it up. On our way out I noticed one of the owners and her chef reviewing a possible addition to the menu. Always improving....always evolving. They had just finished a rush and it was toward the end of the might in a Weds, so I'm cutting them some slack. However we waited a long time for service (hostess helped out with drinks and apps). Then we waited over an hour for entrees. And when they arrived, the pork was over cooked to the point we just boxed it up for our dog. We'd waited so long there was no point in sending it back. Others in our party had eaten there before and had a good experience, so maybe the lesson is to go early. read more

Tonight was our first time here and our amazing server was Jymard, he was so friendly and genuine and he even picked out our drinks for us (which were excellent btw). We had the carpaccio, the duck carbonara, and the salmone risotto; all three of these dishes were fantastic and so was the pillowy focaccia bread that came out before the meals. Came by for Stockton restaurant week with a friend. I was impressed, she was less than impressed. Together we average four stars! + Olive oil with olive tapenade! I got myself full off of this stuff. I loved it! I might seriously come back just for this. However, this is free so I'll have to order a dish or two. + Seafood Fra Diavolo. I liked it, friend didn't. + Atmosphere. Very sophisticated! I felt like I needed to sit up taller and cross my legs. - Seating. Place is small. - Running out of tiramisu. For cereal? And we were so excited. -1 star. - Price. You're paying for the atmosphere, the dim lights, and the hip crowd. The restaurant is small, the dish names are super bizarre for those of us who don't speak... Greek? Italian? and I can see how people have a lot to complain about. I for one, however, am impressed! I'll be back! read more

We came here for our friends birthday. Since it is fancy, I expected this place to be overpriced. So we were a large group (20ish) and the restaurant is super small so we were accommodated in an awkward spot. We did'nt even fit. I could barely move and the neighboring tables were literally 1 foot away from me. Food: The menu was hella confusing. I couldn''t pronounce the name of the entrees and I didn't know what the ingredients were either.... So I ordered this pork thingy that was supposed to be roasted and with veggies. It wasn't even roasted but whatever. The portions were SO SMALL. They gave me one piece of pork. I can't believe I paid so much for one piece of pork. It wasn't even that good. The pork was dry and hard. My friends ordered pasta dishes. You can either order the 1/2 portion of Full one. However, the only difference is the price and the size of the plate because you get the same freaking amount of food!!!!! Who the heck does this?!?!? The small portion and the full portion have the same amount of food!!! Never coming here again. Service was horrible too btw. read more
