I came here for an event on a Sunday. I can't speak to what the restaurant is like on a day to day basis but for a venue, I think it's excellent. So much delicious food, it was plentiful and really good. I had the salmon as my entree and I absolutely loved it. read more

This place is bad -- comically bad. You might even laugh. Feel like entering through a coat room? This is the place for you. Feel like being ignored at the door until you finally decide to leave? Look no further. Like mid food? You're in luck. I ate here twice. The first time, several years ago, was with a foursome, and I recall the place was dumpy, the service surly, and the food just okay, and we decided that there were plenty of other restuarants to choose from. Last week, having forgotten the prior experience, we came here thinking of its convenient location and that we had a bottle of nice wine we wanted to drink BYOB with dinner. It was early on a Saturday evening. Just a few other tables going. Not crowded. In front of us inside, among the coats, was a group of four women. They had been waiting there a while without any attention. We waited behind them for a long while. No one looked over, and the owner and staff avoided any attempt to receive any eye-contact or any other contact. We eventually just left and had a very lovely meal elsewhere. My god the owner is such a miserable obnoxious wretch. The guy is a pompous jerkoff. Save your money. Don't ever go here. We had a repast here, the owner guaranteed we would have this place to ourselves. He allowed other people to come in here. Then with a smug smile on his face, overcharged us. After much pushback, he amended the bill a couple of times, but continued to fight us. Someone passed away and this guy thought he'd use that opportunity to scam us. I am very disappointed in the lack of integrity with the owner of this restaurant. We came for a repast for a dear friend and not only was the food awful at which the shrimp was as rubbery as the raft in my pool they gave us enough sauce for one person for our calamari when at least five or six people were eating the same thing. I literally had to scrape the dish so much I was just shy of scraping the paint off the bowl. I was served my water in a glass that had lipstick from the previous drinker not to mention an Italian restaurant with no olive oil. Went for the first time for an early dinner on New Years Eve with another couple on their recommendation. Had Eggplant Rollatini appetizer and Mushroom Risotto with Seafood. Both dishes were excellent. My wife had the shrimp cocktail and shrimp Fra Diavolo, The shrimp cocktail had very small shrimp but the main course was very good. There were plenty of good choices on the list of specials that I would have liked to try. For dessert the chocolate mouse cake and the cannoli were perfect. The place filled to capacity but we were not rushed to leave. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning soon. read more

Medium sized restaurant with plenty of tables. Had a reservation for about 20 people and was pleasantly surprised. First of all the service was great. Friendly and patient staff. They take the lead from the owner who was exceptional. Came out to talk to the customers and made sure everything was on point. Now to the important items at hand: first of all the place is byob which is always great! Food was really good. Lots of specials. It was actually overload on the specials but everything ng I got my hands on was really good - coconut shrimp, calamari, stuffed artichoke, and they had amazing oysters! The entree was also filled with specials as well and I got the stuffed veal chop with prosciutto and cheese. Came with a side of mashed potatoes, broccoli and zucchini. On point every single time. The owner Mike, is always very friendly and accommodating. All the items we've ordered to date are always full of flavor and consistent. They are one of our favorite spots to order from when I don't feel like cooking BUT I have to make sure I space out the times we order from them otherwise we will gain so much weight (lol). The following are excellent all the time: - Spaghetti and meatballs - portion is actually good for two but will definitely suffice for one person. - Tortellini with bolognese sauce - delicious every time. I've gotten the gnocchi in place of the tortellini and was so good. Gnocchi is fresh. - Chicken Frances w/penna pasta - perfectly seasoned each time as well - Penne Vodka with chicken - perfect always - Cheese Ravioli's - delicious! - Salmon with Veggies - also delicious. Salmon is well seasoned and very good portion. - Shrimp scampi - a favorite All orders come with house salad with their home made Italian dressing and bread. We had a 5:30 reservation.They failed to save tables and everyone with that reservation was kept waiting for 30-60 minutes, even after one group with a disabled adult left due to the delay. Our food wasn't served until after 8:00 pm, and that was the hors d'oeuvre. The food was no better than fair and certainly not worth the wait. Around 8:00 we were told they ran out of one of our orders. What can you possibly order at that point, knowing it will delay everyone else? There was no apology and no break in their bill. I used to love this restaurant. We haven't been here in about 5-7 years because they had us wait over an hour for our food when we had young children with us. I was hoping things had changed. Regrettably, our dinner did not even live up to the conditionally satisfactory inspection rating hanging on the wall. :( read more

This local neighborhood restaurant is a gem. They are welcoming, attentive and the food is excellent. They enjoy serving you simple meal such as tender chicken parm or your Nonna's stuffed artichoke along with a list of nightly specials.Theres no rush and you can enjoy your own bottle of wine. What a great way to end a busy weekend. Friends suggested we meet at Mezzanotte and I'm glad we discovered this local spot. I didn't read the menu - the specials announced tonight were compelling enough and I decided on the Gnocchi in red sauce with chicken, Italian sausage and vegetables. It sort of looked like a giambotta - more stew than pasta dish - and it was delicious! Everything, for that matter, was well done in this quaint BYOB restaurant. Stuffed artichoke was very good and the calamari included tentacles (yay - most places just provide the rings). Finished off with a nice capuccino and the Napoleon was probably the best I've ever had. No heavy, thick sugary icing on top - all fresh custard and crunchy thin layers topped with homemade whip cream. Excellent! New local spot for us! I strongly recommend you give it a try! read more

This is by far the worst service and quality of food I have ever had in my life. My chicken came out raw and when we asked to get a new entree, the owner refused. We then asked him to remove this from our bill and he laughed in our faces. He also told us if we paid in cash, that we wouldn't be charged tax, yet he charged us for the entire thing, "took it off the bill", and then charged us for soda refills that he "mistakenly forgot" clearly to off put the price of tax. My first visit to Mezz was a club dine-around event for 25 men. And I must say I was impressed. The servers were professional and courteous. The overall ambiance was comfortable and inviting. We had a reasonable preset price-fixed meal - appetizers, pasta, salad, choice of 4 main course dishes and coffee (no dessert). I had veal Marsala which, while scant portion size, was delicious. The rest of the meal was quite satisfactory. Owner/manager Mike was around to ensure top quality. All in all it was what I'd expect from a well-managed restaurant. Had a reservation for 10. We were not informed that that were hosting a rehearsal dinner for 50 people. Place is not large enough. Felt like we were in a super spreader environment. Additionally there was also approximately anothe 20 of so patrons dining. We should have been informed by Michael the owner that if this is a problem for us we could cancel our reservation. We all felt very uncomfortable in this environment. It affected our experience with friends we haven't seen in a while as well as the service. I always forget about this place but finally got to stop in. It's set back so it's hard to see from saddle river road. The stuffed artichoke was really good. Lots of specials on the menu to choose from. We both liked our dinners. Kids options are available. It is a byob so bring your own wine and apple juice for the kids. The prices are very reasonable and there is a a prix fixe lunch menu available that's like a great deal. We will be back to check it out! read more

Went for Mother day, they didn't tell us salad was included, so we ordered another salad (pear Salad). There regular salads are just that plain with cheap lettuce. I order the special shrimp/scallops over linguine. It consisted of 3 shrimps which were good, however, the scallops were not good. They gave 5 scallops different small sizes, one looked orange. They also had a funny fishy taste and I could not eat them. The cannoli was tasty however there was no filling inside, go figure. I most likely will not go here again. read more

The ricotta cheesecake was to die for! The service was a bit slow but it allowed for time between dishes. The place could absolutely use an overhaul in decor but we were comfortable. Was here for a repast. 70+ people. The owner Michael booked reservations during what was expected to be a private party. We were totally disrupted by people going in and out, and having to explain to strangers why we were there and what was going on. An absolute nightmare. I see this is a recurring theme for Michael as a reviewer cited this exact issue 2 years ago. When we spoke to Michael, he was extremely rude, condescending, and took no accountability. He simply told us that these people come every day, and it was the family's fault for not asking him not to book reservations (again, this was a private party and funeral repast which he was aware of). In the end he also overestimated the bill. Totally unprofessional and I've never had a worse experience. Do not book a private party here. Food is not worth the visit either. There are many better authentic Italian places elsewhere in the area. Don't waste your time. read more

Had 7:00 reservation for a table of five. Our order was taken at 7:20 but salads were not brought out until almost 8:00. We told the owner that we hadn't seen our waiter since we ordered and were told he was pulled off serving to help cook. When we asked why it was taking so long, we told we came at a bad time, (sorry but we had a reservation.) We finished our salads and were waiting for the main course when the busboy came over with five more salads, not realizing we had already eaten them and he had been the one to remove the dishes. Meanwhile the table next to us was served their main course while we were still waiting for our salad even though we placed our orders first. When I mentioned this to the owner he said small tables go faster. Main course was finally served over one hour after we placed order. The meal was delicious but I feel the service should had been better and we should had been informed that our waiter was no longer available. read more
