I was so excited to try Mezza since there isn't many Israeli restaurants in the area. This restaurant is very popular since every table was full. It can get very loud inside, and the tables were very close together. We started with the Israeli tacos and crispy cauliflower appetizers. Both were packed with flavor, and DELICIOUS! I highly recommend them both! For entrees we had the braised short rib pappardelle and the lamb shank over creamy orzo. The braised short rib pappardelle was EXCELLENT! The short rib was nice and tender, and again it also was packed with Mediterranean flavor! Unfortunately, the lamb shank wasn't fall off the bone tender as it should of been. In fact some of pieces were so hard they weren't inedible. It didn't have any flavor like the other dishes had either. The creamy orzo that came with that dish was very good, but not good enough to compensate for the disappointing lamb shank. For desserts we had the ricotta fritters and the baklava. The ricotta fritters had a beautiful presentation, but we just found them to be ok. The baklava lacked sweetness like it's suppose to have. It needed more honey. Neither were bad, but not worth ordering again. Overall I really loved most of the dishes especially the appetizers! Some dishes were amazing and some could of been better. The dishes I loved would definitely bring me to come back! I recommend dining at Mezza in Livingston! read more

1 Hour Table time? Since when? We were nearly finished at out table for three and paid the pricey $160 for three of us when we were asked to leave after 1 hour in the restaurant. We were never told this was the case. While the food is decent at best this will be our last time visiting. While I know the outdoor seating is no longer available, we intentionally made sure to make ours inside as we read the weather report for that day. Not only the best Mediterranean food I've ever had, but some of the best food I've had PERIOD. I audibly gasped "oh my GOD" when I took my first bite of lemon chicken pita sandwich. We had the falafel, tzatziki, lamb kafta, and cauliflower and WOW it was hit after hit! On top of the food, service was incredible, friendly and accommodating with my 1-year-old son. *The owner contacted me, and as I explained, I am not changing my review. I ordered a falafel in pita sandwich with a salad. I received a mashed up, mushy melange of broken falafel pieces mixed up with pieces of salad and absolutely no tahini sauce. The falafel had no flavor, the pita was ripped and drenched in salad juice and...it was gross. I asked the waiter if this is the way it was served or could i get a sandwich with whole falafels. He went into the kitchen, came back and said no. I gave him my lunch and said I could not eat it. It was disgusting... it looked like green upchuck in a roll. 3 minutes later he tells me the chef will make it with whole falafel. I told him no, i dont want it. My family and I dined here last night for my sister and my birthday dinner (we are twins). I have eaten here once before for lunch and it was delicious both times. We started with a bunch of appetizers (falafel, babaganoush, hummus, tahini, eggplant, and more) and then shared a few main courses since we were pretty full after all the pita and appetizers. Everything was fresh and delicious. I love the babaganoush. The pita being good was key. The Halva ice cream was really good and surprisingly I am usually not that big of a fan of ice cream. Tonight was our second time dining here. The first was right before we went away for Spring Break. Well it wasn't a fluke! The service and the food was just as delicious as the last time. Better in fact because we had TEUTA as our waitress. (Ask for her, she's great!) I put her name in caps so people would see it. It's a beautiful name but easy to forget how to spell or pronounce. But I digress. This time I brought my mom because we owed her an Easter dinner. She loved everything! That's saying a lot because she always finds something to complain about. (Love you mom but it's true!) She had the short ribs for her main and said it was delicious. She loved the apps too. In fact she wouldn't let Teuta take away the plates until she scraped every piece off of them! (Hey, we're Italian. We love food and don't like to waste!) I was so pleased with what I had the last time I got it again. The lamb shank was just as incredible! My daughter did the same. She ordered the salmon that she declared last time was, "The best salmon I ever ate." High praise indeed from a picky 17 year old. Tried the chocolate soufflé this time along with the fritter, "tree" and it was perfect. Teuta was good enough to tell us if we wanted the soufflé to order it before we were done with our mains since if takes 20 min to prepare. This place is AMAZING. The food is super fresh. I love their chop salad in particular - I'm someone who doesn't love feta or olives, but this salad is so balanced that the saltiness of the feta and olives works perfectly with the rest of the salad. We shared a mezza combo of hummus, babaganoush, and Turkish eggplant salad. All were yummy and fresh and generous portions. The babaganoush has a nice smokey flavor. Stopped in here for lunch this weekend, service was great and the staff was very nice and friendly. The food was very good, started with the Crispy Cauliflower, great for adults but my 3yr old didn't like the sour lemon sauce. I had the Branzino fish ($18), it was grilled perfectly and the spinach and potatoes were delightful. My wife had a Hummus bowl with grilled chicken, it was very tasty and fulfilling ($14). Came in on a Monday at the start of dinner and was seated immediately. The interior is a nice Mediterranean vibe with great waiters. The pita bread was amazing and the hummus was the best I've ever tasted in NJ. I got the Moroccan Chicken Tajine and it was amazing. Great flavor and the meat was very juicy. It would have taken 3 orders of them to get close to being satisifed with the quantity, or $54 for HUMMUS, EGGPLANT and the BABA GANOUSH appetizer trio. We had strip steak sandwich and hummus bowl short ribs. Food was interesting and flavorful, something different. However, the portions seem measured for bulimics, not normal adults. 2 or three spoonfuls of shredded or cut up meat do not do it for me even when accompanied by small basket of pita.
