I did, however, see a taco truck downtown that looked pretty damn authentic. The prices here are ridiculous. I have been to restaurants all over the country serving the exact same food and rarely pay more than $3 per taco or $12 for a torta. By the way, what they call a "Tortuga" it's not a signature creation. It's just a torta, a staple of authentic Mexican food. My friend and I both got taco plates, which were each around $25. That's outrageous. That would even be outrageous for a place that has table service which this place does not. I would not come back here. If I am in Memphis again and craving Mexican food, I'm definitely going to try the trucks. PS Guy Fieri signing off on a restaurant is something that I consider more of a red flag than a sign of excellence.

We started off with the usual salsa and and chips. They were a little greedy with the salsa. The container was less than half full. I like to use the salsa to put on my food. So we definitely had to ask for more salsa. I usually compare a Mexican restaurant by their salsa. If the salsa is not good, usually the food's not good. That wasn't the case here. Their salsa was very good. I ordered the create your own meal x4 items. I got two beef enchiladas, one hard taco and the fried flauta roll. It also came with Mexican Fried Rice and refried beans. My food was very good. I had no complaints other than being a little greedy with the salsa. My wife got the taco salad with chicken as the protein. She wasn't quite as pleased as I was with her food. She said it tasted good, but there was just way too much rice in it. She had a hard time finding any chicken. The service was good. We sat in a booth near the bar, so the bartender was taken the orders. She was quite busy trying to keep up. All things considered she did pretty good. Our overall experience was good. At first I was kinda skeptic about the cabbage not being submerged in the liquids (since that's how I had it in the past) but it still holds the flavor good. The sweet salsa was a game changer for me. I never had it til I came here and it's a must have on your pupusas. When we first sat down, the owner came up to the table after our order was taken and asked if we wanted chips and guac. He made it fresh and how we wanted it, since I'm not too big on spice he had the jalapeños on the side for my husband. It was flavored so well that we actually ate it with our pupusas too. Everyone there is really friendly and always made sure we were doing good during our meal. At the end we ordered more to go to eat later.

I'd prefer places presume competence and if I don't ask for a kids cup just put his beverage in a regular glass like the rest of us at the table got. If nothing else ask me if he is good with a regular cup.
