I had a fence with wood in the middle and we wanted to replace it to match the other gates. I had many quotes and everyone else stated that they would have to remove the fence and take it with them. However, Gustavo stated that he would make the design at his shop and come back and weld it in. I was a little reluctant at the beginning but after talking with him I could see he was a confident man. And wow!, he nailed it! It turned out beautiful and identical to the other gate. In addition he painted along with the other gate to match. I should also mention that he realigned our other gate at no charge as it was not closing correctly. Gustavo even provided some paint samples and we finally decided on flat black. Gustavo is a gem! A true craftsman that is also timely and honest which is very hard to find today... he's just a great guy!!! read more

We contracted Gustavo for our side gate a couple of weeks ago. Prior to reaching out to him, my husband and I got a quote from other vendor and we thought the price was way too high. I called Gustavo and asked for an estimate and just by a couple of texting back and forth, he was able to provide me a quote over the phone. I was very pleased that his price was over 2,000 less than the first guy wanted to charge us. The initial contact with him also assured me that Gustavo has done enough jobs that the pricing the projects come out so naturally to him as opposed to the first vendor (he took 2 days to get back to us and pricing was way off. We did our research beforehand, so we weren't too naive to not know how much of a project we were looking for). We asked Gustavo to see where we'd like to install the gate in-person and after measuring the dimension, etc. On the day of first meet-up, he was on-time and professional throughout the process. Very humble and more than anything he lived up with his initial quote, so we proceeded. The lead time he told me was 2-weeks and I thought it was actually pretty good, considering that the gate we asked him to create was rather a large two-door gate (4' and 7' each). After all, he was able to deliver it on the 10th day - a very impressive lead time. My husband and I are very pleased with how smooth the process was and the quality of his craftsmanship. The gate came out just as I envisioned. It really compliments the house and concrete pattern we have where the gate was installed. Not only is our new gate beautiful and well-presented, it is also very functional. Opening, closing, and locking are smooth (very critical, when you have two overly-excited German shepherds pulling you as you open the gate to go for a walk!). Gustavo came to our home and provided a free quote for the side gate and rear fence where I requested an access gate. Gustavo followed up promptly with a text and quote that same day. Unfortunately we had to hold off on the side gate and focus finishing the backyard area first. I called Gustavo and explained the situation and he provided a second quote for just the back entry fence. He said he was quite busy and next available date would be in approximately 3-4 weeks. I agreed to the quote and asked him to put us on his schedule. I asked Gustavo "do you need a deposit ?" Gustavo replied not necessary you may pay when the job is done. I said ok let me know when the installation date is going to be. That same day Gustavo text me with the date and time he would come out. To my happy surprise Gustavo called on Thursday April 8 and said he had a client re-schedule for this coming Saturday April 10 and asked if he could come out this Saturday April 10 at 10 am. I said yes of course. Gustavo and his helper showed up at 10 am with all tools and materials needed for the job. Gustavo placed a large work cloth on the cement floor and that is where he cut and welded the fence. The fence gate came out fantastic. I wanted the gate to closely match the existing fence, and that is exactly what Gustavo delivered. attached are some before and after pictures. We will most definitely be asking Gustavo to come back and custom build the side gate in the near future. I wish I had a before picture of my gate to show how great it turned out when Gustavo was done with it. Long story short we needed to change our side gate bc the backyard was way to visible and we wanted more privacy. I contacted a couple other vendors but we ultimately went with Mex Iron due to the reasonable pricing and also because we liked the pictures of the work he's done. For our gate we used the existing iron which saved us money bc it prevented from having to build something from scratch. The project took 9 days to finish and the finished product was worth the wait. Now where Gustavo really stands out is the fact that he took the extra time and detail to make sure our gate was perfect. We had wanted the center design from the door of our original gate to go on the new one. It was a scroll design with a square border. Gustavo took that and when he realized that the square border didn't look good he went ahead and removed it, cleaned up the scroll work and added the new improved version on the gate. It turned out so much better and I'm so glad he took the time to do what he did. I would highly recommend Mex Iron Works. My neighbor was so impressed he took down Gustavo's contact information too. I cannot recommend Gus more highly. I wanted my steel driveway gate to overlap for greater strength and stability (I did not want a dog to force it open). Many welders that I had previously called, told me that it would not work and it would have to be done differently. When I spoke with Gus, he simply said "let's try it." He gave me a reasonable quote and an appointment on a Saturday within two weeks of my phone call. He arrived exactly on time, with everything that he needed to complete the job. I bought accessories that I liked so that things would be more secure, and he actually made my crazy ideas work. Rather than dismissing ideas and concepts, he actually brainstorms with you and uses his skills, ability, and knowledge to make it work. On the day of the appointment, everything was completed in under three hours. Old hinge points were ground off the post, surfaces were prepped, new hinges were welded, and the locking cane bolt with latch were secured. I was amazed. Whenever I need something welded, I am calling Gus. I love my new overlapping driveway gate. read more
