Just wrapped up a quick afternoon at Power Plant Mall and honestly, it's become my favorite little…read moreescape in Makati. The place feels intimate compared to the massive malls everywhere else--more curated, less chaotic. I wandered through the high-end shops (that tourbillon watch boutique is insane), grabbed an amazing flat white at Yardstick, then had the best kinilaw and sisig at Toyo Eatery upstairs. The whole vibe is relaxed yet polished, and the Christmas lights this year are stunning without being over-the-top. Felt like a nice treat after a long week. Definitely five stars for me.

It is…read moreanchored by The Marketplace supermarket, an eight-screen Power Plant Cinema, and a mix of high-end retail tenants. It even has a Roman Catholic chapel called the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I was interested in visiting this venue because, as the name suggests, this structure was once (literally) a power plant. After the power plant was decommissioned, the structure and land were reimagined. It should be seen as part of a master planned development. It also caters to some adjacent, legacy, high-end communities. This location provided an opportunity for me to people watch; examine products and brands unfamiliar to me; and to price compare goods in the PHL, versus back home. And there seems to be more "exclusive" retailers I didn't see at other shopping centers in Makati.

The people are obnoxiously loud just asking for attention, or blocking the walk-way taking an instagram post in a city they don't own a residence in. BGC is overhyped all around. When Central Square Mall was open for watching movies, my girlfriend and I decided to go watch a movie on a whim. When we got there, we got surprised that the cost of a ticket is almost double the cost of a standard one elsewhere - only to find out it's because of the 4D experience they offer (and super comfy lazy boy seating). We pretended to wait for our friends to confirm before purchasing tickets, because they were really out of our budget at the time (and we weren't going to waste 4D on a comedy film). I also hear that you can get your food delivered to you while you're inside the movie theater! Central Square has some pretty good restaurants on the top floor, especially Va Bene and Mad Mark's. My personal favorite snack, Jamaican Patties, has a kiosk present, which makes me very happy. There's also a small Family Mart on the top floor, which has a few tables and chairs for patrons to eat before or after watching the movie. The stores available here are pretty standard and also pretty high end. I'd still rather shop around the stores along High Street, mainly because of the price and the availability. Regardless, they have a variety of stores that will cater to your every (luxury) need.

It was very convenient to the I'M hotel where I stayed for 3 days after my flight got canceled. I got groceries and Starbucks at this place every day, and when looking for a haircut, I found one of the best barbers in Makati here too. The only negative was that I had to pass a Trump Tower condo, with the stench of a backup sewer to get to the mall.

I didn't like the strong smell of sewage that can be smelled from the first floor however inside the mall. That was pretty gross and my nose was sensitive to the smell. Everything opened around 11AM and a couple stores are in the works to be opened. Inside the mall, it felt clean and modern and the elevator has a pretty handy poster of where each store is and what floor something is at. The mall reaches to up 5 floors and there's a rooftop lounge too. You can't see the view outside the building openly, but there are cool spots to go to for the vibes. Elevator wait was long because a couple of elevators were out of order. Checked out the Coco cafe at the first floor and the bakery. Vendors in the middle of the mall too. Did an escape room. Plenty of activities and restaurants to do and eat at in the mall.
