Philippines review #35 It's hard to believe just how MANY shopping malls there are in the metro Manila area. Between the regional community malls, the upscale "lifestyle" malls and the gargantuan mega malls, there are easily 50 - 60 or more. In the in 8 Sq miles (21 Sq km) area that is Makati (where I usually stay) there are 10 different malls and 3 of the large ones are literally right next to each other. I was needing a few things / supplies and hotel staff suggested this mall, literally around the corner from my hotel. Wow, who knew? Turns out it opened 2 years ago. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/century-city-mall-makati?select=CII0drd8EsMVfXaSuF6CAw This very modern, 5 level mall has a number of restaurants, a Rustan's high end grocery store, plus numerous clothing & shoe stores, a movie theater, office supplies, sporting goods, book store, etc, basically everything shopping malls normally offer. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/century-city-mall-makati?select=tAlB3y2T94tS5b1Ejsd8jQ https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/century-city-mall-makati?select=uLm5IV_M2OebBr71cJOdDg https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/century-city-mall-makati?select=gVgwv0TQwi1OzeG57_9iIQ In addition to a couple other restaurants on the 5th floor, there is also a VERY cool, fun, modern and sophisticated food court called "Hole In The Wall" with about a dozen different food options. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hole-in-the-wall-makati?select=mocXQLUJFGLa-v9nW-wNqw https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hole-in-the-wall-makati?select=TmvhJCz7Z6pARaszQFKWkg https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hole-in-the-wall-makati?select=2wby6b6vGb-RopzYpYkuNA The 5th floor also includes a semi-open rooftop space with seating for a restaurant / coffee house and a multiuse area. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/century-city-mall-makati?select=yO0yDgscwdxyES5869_--A OVERALL: A nice, new, upscale mall among a plethora of other malls in the metro Manila / Makati area. It also happens to be far, far superior to the small "A Venue mall" 2 blocks away.

The architecture reminds me of Malibu Barbie, I dunno why LOL

I actually like how this place redefines my concept of what a mall is in a sense that it is nothing like the mammoths we are accustomed to. Nothing like the people-infested megastructures that attract massive crowds like the zombie apocalypse. Century City Mall is an oasis. Besides having this architectural design that somehow reminds me of Malibu Barbie, it is quaint, clean and gives off a steady vibe. It is the type of place one hits with already a specific restaurant or boutique in mind. It is obviously not the place to go on a shopping frenzy at. (Though I always find myself buying lots of clothes and toys when I go here.) It really feels more like an exclusive community center with a few yet well-curated shops, restaurants as well as bars and a big enough grocery that contains the essentials. It even has a deli, a toy store, a bookstore and cinemas. I have watched a movie here once - the theater is intimate. The leg room is sufficient though the elevation is too flat so you better pray a basketball player sits no where in front of you.

What I probably love the most about Century City Mall is that it's never too crowded. It feels like a peaceful mall. Even on weekends, you can see that there's a lot of people but there's not much noise. Sure, there isn't much stores to shop in in this mall, but why shop when you can eat?? Their food court-ish area called Hole in the Wall is beautiful even just to look at. It's not your typical food court where there are chairs and food stalls all around. Yes, there are chairs and stalls here, but you're sure that each food stall is one of a kind and absolutely delicious. From snacks to main courses to desserts to alcohol, they've got it and you're sure that you can't find it anywhere else. And yes, they do have chairs, but artsy chairs that makes it fun to dine in. It took me many tries to eat there for dinner because no matter what day it is, it's always full and the lines at each stall is always so long! After having dinner with your friends, you can choose to walk around the mall or have a drink or two (or three or ten) with your friends at 12 Monkeys or party in 71 Gramercy which are both in the same area of the mall.

The place feels intimate compared to the massive malls everywhere else--more curated, less chaotic. I wandered through the high-end shops (that tourbillon watch boutique is insane), grabbed an amazing flat white at Yardstick, then had the best kinilaw and sisig at Toyo Eatery upstairs. The whole vibe is relaxed yet polished, and the Christmas lights this year are stunning without being over-the-top. Felt like a nice treat after a long week. Definitely five stars for me.

It even has a Roman Catholic chapel called the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I was interested in visiting this venue because, as the name suggests, this structure was once (literally) a power plant. After the power plant was decommissioned, the structure and land were reimagined. It should be seen as part of a master planned development. It also caters to some adjacent, legacy, high-end communities. This location provided an opportunity for me to people watch; examine products and brands unfamiliar to me; and to price compare goods in the PHL, versus back home. And there seems to be more "exclusive" retailers I didn't see at other shopping centers in Makati.

When Central Square Mall was open for watching movies, my girlfriend and I decided to go watch a movie on a whim. When we got there, we got surprised that the cost of a ticket is almost double the cost of a standard one elsewhere - only to find out it's because of the 4D experience they offer (and super comfy lazy boy seating). We pretended to wait for our friends to confirm before purchasing tickets, because they were really out of our budget at the time (and we weren't going to waste 4D on a comedy film). I also hear that you can get your food delivered to you while you're inside the movie theater! Central Square has some pretty good restaurants on the top floor, especially Va Bene and Mad Mark's. My personal favorite snack, Jamaican Patties, has a kiosk present, which makes me very happy. There's also a small Family Mart on the top floor, which has a few tables and chairs for patrons to eat before or after watching the movie. The stores available here are pretty standard and also pretty high end. I'd still rather shop around the stores along High Street, mainly because of the price and the availability. Regardless, they have a variety of stores that will cater to your every (luxury) need.

Parking can be found here, but I don't suggest you drive in Manila as traffic can be mentally exhausting. If you have a driver, he will know exactly where to park at SM. The Store is filled with everything you need for yourself, your home, your family, friends, pets. SM is growing with products it's unbelievable! Products are either locally made items to luxury brands from all around the world. From perfumes, cologne, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions. It was a little hard for me to sample something then move on to the next fragrance counter as there is so much to see all around the mall. What was most important is that the Foreign Exchange Counter was found on the Men's Floor of the department store. It was operated by BDO Bank and they offered a very competitive exchange rate. Also In the basement of the mall, you'll find SM Supermarket. They will have all your household items, snacks, food items, anything you forgot to pack for your trip such as toiletries. I honestly can't remember which floor it was, but there is a wing that connects you from SM to Glorietta Mall. It's the floor where one of the coffee shops were located either 2F or 3F.
