Spinach and hot bacon salad
Dustin E.

Really excellent steaks! Great charbroiled flavor. What a treat! We enjoyed this place a lot. The hot bacon spinach salad was incredible!! They don't have Coke. It's a Pepsi joint. That was sad. We went twice. Michelle was our excellent server. She rocks! We'll be back.

Fantastic all the way around from top to bottom! Absolutely love this place every time we eat here. Atmosphere is great too! We all ordered steak and they were cooked absolutely perfect and tender. The only thing I could fault was the baked potato could have been hotter. Two of us ordered the bacon spinach salad with our steaks, which is always our favorite because the dressing is warm. We ate later in the evening and ordered Coffee. Our waitress was great and brewed us a fresh pot. Our waitress, Molly, was excellent and very attentive. Molly deserves more then 5 stars! We were celebrating my parents 53rd Wedding Anniversary and so we ordered carrot cake as dessert, which it didn't disappoint! I highly recommend this place!

We've been to the Metropolitan several times, the little steak house next to the big house is a fantastic slogan and brings a bit of a smile every time. Their appetizers are solid, onion rings, fried pickles, mushrooms, and mozzarella sticks are among some of our favorites. We've had the filet mignon, the KC Strip, grilled cheese, BLTs, steak salad, and quite a few items off of their menu as time has gone on. Last night we went a bit lighter and had patty melt, steak salad, french onion soup and appetizers. The service is high quality and the layout is designed to remind you of really classic 1950s/1960s style look and feel and it works for me. Good experience and who doesn't love a nice steak?

Ribeye

This place always looks packed so we gave it a try. We won't be back. Staff was friendly and sat fast at our table. The queso wasn't anything to rave about, chips were stale. Our steaks were tough, grisly and why was it actually blue? The mashed potatoes seemed instant mixed with maybe a few real mashed to feign texture? The green beans seemed like they had bacon bit chunks cooked in. Disappointing for the price.

Typical Friday night at ye old Metropolitan Steakhouse, busy as busy can get. Here is the deal folks, just know this place is hopping like a rabbit on speed on Friday nights. We made it in right before the rush, ordered, and then waited what felt like forever, but was reasonably 20 minutes. Food was presented hot and delicious. Pork Tenderloin sandwich was exceptionally good. Service was good but not exceptional as out waitress was covering far to many tables at the same time. I know she was good, but you can only stretch yourself so far. It felt as though she was covering the whole place, at least the main room. Overall with the food being exceptional and service good, it was not a shabby evening dining experience.

Toughest (fake) ribeye in the world

Just don't. This place survives and thrives on locals who have been going there for years and have little idea what an actual quality steak is. It was, hands down, the toughest, least flavorful steak I have ever had. If you go here, you are either incredibly lazy or simply hate yourself. The best thing on my plate was the corn.

A must visit!!! The service was just as good as the food!

I'd like to keep this place a secret, but I can't. It's a must visit! The service is just as good as the food!

Mediocre food and terrible management. Cute and comfortable dining if the people and entrees were better.

Service is great but quality of food has gone down. With the expense of eating out we probably won't be back.

I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the experience I just had with my friends and family. Walked in today with my people 10/15/2026 around 5:30ish and off the bat server was rude and for some reason seemed annoyed at our presence. My friend was there before me and he as well said the waitress was rude. I was denied a drink solely because of my ID being vertical instead of horizontal. Which was no issue at all for it being their business at the end of the day. The problem I had was the sourness coming from the taller waitress serving us. There was no need for the scene she caused. Nevertheless, I understand this is a family owned and operated restaurant so not much for the server to worry about. Being open for 70+ years is impressive. This is for the new incoming soldiers/spouses or even newcomers to Leavenworth that're looking to try some new places. Seems like they like to cater towards the locals and regulars more than potential new customers. I'd suggest treating all customers the same regardless if it's their first time or not, seeing the way our waitress conducted herself with us comparatively to others near us was enough said. Maybe I'll bring my family back and give this place another shot. But for now, 2 stars it is.

Planning an event on short notice while grieving is incredibly overwhelming, but the owner Mary and her staff made the process completely seamless. They were organized and highly professional. The train cars were packed to the rafters when we arrived, but the wait was well worth every minute. The moment we sat down, coffee mugs were ready to roll, accompanied by a basket of warm little donut holes delivering the kind of sweet, sugary punch every mid morning meal deserves. The drinks delivered across the board. I went with the Bloody Mary, served in a classic country jar with the perfect kick of spicy heat. I also snuck a sip of a friend's Mimosa toward the end of brunch, and it was equally refreshing and balanced. The food menu features plenty of creative twists, but the standout was the Smoked Chicken Eggs Benedict. The sweet and savory smoke profile on the chicken paired flawlessly with rich hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs. Across the table, the Reuben was a massive hit--I snagged a few of the accompanying housemade chips, and they were exceptionally crispy and well-seasoned. The Chef Salad and Black Bean Burger earned high marks from the rest of the crew, proving the scratch kitchen handles classic staples just as skillfully as their specialty items. Despite a completely full dining room, our server never missed a beat. He was fast, attentive, and didn't even flinch when an extra guest showed up late to our table. Terrific food, unique historic atmosphere, and top-tier hospitality. We'll definitely be back.
