I just got off the phone with a "manager" regarding a move I had on Saturday. I was moving out of a (very small) 2 bedroom apartment. I had all of my items packed and staged in the front area by the door. They didn't have to move any furniture aside from: 2 dressers, a trunk, a tv stand, a mattress, a set of split box springs, a book shelf and a chair. From my front door it was a clear path to the elevator which was on service which then went to the basement, out one set of doors and up the ramp. A move that I did with 2 others and only took 3 hours took these 19 year old "professional movers" 4 hours. When we arrived to the new location the unload should have taken 30 minutes max. It was down the ramp, down 5 stairs, a meter to the left and bingo the staging area (mud room area in an open concept 1 bedroom apartment). They stretched this unloading into 2 hours. My apartment included a sectional couch, hutch and dining set (so this items were not moved or brought in by the movers as they were already there). My friend who recommended this company was there at the new apartment and could not believe how long it was taking. ...when I called today stating I had photo evidence of how little I own, and asked that a representative be sent to evaluate how little time the unloading should've taken I was told not only is that something they are unwilling to do but also that I was at fault because I signed the receipt without comment. Spending 840$ on a 1 bedroom move with no major furniture 8km within the city when it should've taken 4 hours/$500 maximum feels like an injustice. ...if you hire these movers despite the bad reviews my recommendation is to not sign the receipt. And if some nice well meaning teenagers show up to send them away at request a team in their 30s. read more

I wish that we had read some of the other reviews on this website before engaging Metropolitan Movers for our local Ottawa move. On the positive side, it seemed to me that our crew of three worked reasonably diligently. That being said, they certainly lacked for skill and care. The walls of the home that we were leaving were badly damaged requiring us to scramble to repair and paint the many dings and scratches to the drywall prior to our buyers moving in the next day. The damage to our furniture reflected the beating taken on the walls - a broken chair arm, multiple scratches and dents on our mahogany bedroom furniture and my art nouveau desk delivered in pieces. It is not clear to me that Metropolitan Movers is anything more than a poorly managed franchise that rents its name to anybody with a truck and a crew picked up off the street. read more

honestly just stop calling me. Requested an estimate over a month ago & they call and leave atleast 2 messages a day. I blocked the number and it doesn't stop them from texting me my quote ($750 for a literal bedroom. 1 bed, 1 dresser, and some clothing) 9 times a day and filling up my invoice everyday till i have to clear it. What's the worst thing that you can imagine happening the day of your move? How about the company you hired weeks ago not showing up at all? And not being able to give you an ETA and keeping you waiting all day? And then finally telling you they'll just come tomorrow instead, like it's not big deal? And being completely unapologetic, blaming it on the other clients and even on you? A discount, as a way to mitigate the bad service, you say? Nope. They made it clear that they were responsible for nothing as stated in the contract, and would not offer a discount. If this sounds like an added stress that you'd enjoy handling on top of all the other stressors that come with a move, by all means, go ahead and hire this company that apparently prides itself in being reliable. I do not recommend anyone using this moving company. I booked my move weeks in advance- a one bedroom in downtown Ottawa (with NO living room furniture) to somewhere about a 15 minute drive away. The afternoon before my move, they called to say they'll be coming 30mins early, to which I said no repeatedly because I didn't have the elevator booked for that time. The man on the phone raised his voice at me, saying they had to. He then told me I should get a third guy to help with the move, and when I asked if there was a price difference, he replied "Well yeah, it's an extra guy!" in the most condescending tone. I ended up agreeing to a third team member because a one bedroom apartment move with no living room furniture shouldn't take long with three guys. The day of my move, they showed up 30mins early (originally agreed to 9am, changed to 830am, they came at 8am) and argued with me about street parking and how if they get a ticket, I have to pay for it. Packing my things into their truck took 2.5 hours with three guys, an elevator I managed to get on service as soon as they got there luckily, and them being right at the corner of my building. It then took 2 hours to unload the van. The majority of the time, team members were only carrying one thing at a time by hand. They wouldn't use their dolly / any equipment to move things despite being asked multiple times, and one team member stayed in the van for 99% of the move (the same team member who repeatedly raised his voice at me for no reason then said the reason it took them so long is because the hallway my unit was located on was long). I had all boxes already stacked for them, heaviest on bottom, to use a dolly to pick them up and carry them out. You can clearly tell they didn't pay close attention when packing them into the van as many of the tops of boxes were crushed, so they put the heavy ones on top. They also carried boxes on their side, even ones marked fragile and dishes (and yes, things broke). They also damaged the entire front of my desk and yelled at me, called their boss who also yelled, when it was pointed out. I've used a different professional movers company before (to move me into the downtown unit with a much longer drive between it and the original place) and I had an entire living room of furniture at the time. It cost $400 with two guys and took 4 hours. This move had 3 guys, much less furniture/boxes, and took 4.5 hours. They originally tried charging me over $900 because they literally snuck in additional charges no one had ever mentioned to me or asked me about. I ended up getting about $50 taken off, though it should have been much more. This move was far longer, more stressful, and incredibly more costly than it should have been due to the team members and company being unprofessional with timing, constantly yelling at me, sneaking in unrelated/unnecessary costs and ripping me off, and damaging my belongings. read more

I used this company for a move locally. Disorganized late and charged an amount I wished I didn't pay! My move from Toronto to Ottawa was cheaper and more considerate. They were suppose to pack. We did it. The move was a nightmare! Furniture were scratched and broken I would stay away! The movers used one of my conforter which is ruined. I would not recommend this company to any one beside they were suppose to start from 8 to 9 didn't show up til 12:00 p. m and didn't finish til 9:30 pm we helped them as they were really slow read more

They arrived 2.25 hours late for pick-up on a very time sensitive delivery. Their disregard for our clients need is costing our customer thousands of dollars per hour. Our client can't work without the equipment they need delivered and we can't deliver it without them. Wish we had read the other reviews before risking our businesses reputation on them. read more

Worst moving company i've ever used by far. I re-confirmed the move the day before, yet nobody showed up on moving day. Apparently they sent a text in the evening asking for the number of boxes etc and we didn't see it so they cancelled our move. We had a signed contract indicating the number of movers and the size of the truck to be used, so it is hard to understand why they would cancel. After hours on the phone we had to settle for a much smaller truck that would require two trips. The move was very slow. they had no power tools to take apart beds etc, so what should have collectively taken 15 minutes took about an hour and a half. Nothing was wrapped or protected, grease from the truck got on our brand new pale blue couch and our king mattress. Several items were chipped or scratched, one mover got blood on several pieces of furniture. What should have been a 6-7 hour move took 10 hours. Zero accountability. Avoid this company! read more

Well, here is a bad, but a true review... Moved within Kanata. Booking went well and efficient. Showed up on time. Crew that was sent are three kids, nice but with very little experience. Furniture was damaged, mirror and lamp are broken. Photos were taken, spoke with the owner (Johni I believe) who promised to get back to us on this. Sent number of emails, had to call 5 times within the next week - finally promised to sent us some gift card. 10 days passed since, nothing yet. The moment you paid - they don't care anymore. Please do yourself a favor, find another mover. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. They caused damage to two walls while moving a couch, then left the couch. They wont assume responsibility or provide any solutions to fix the damage they've caused, they are dodging calls and emails. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. read more

I don't write reviews generally but felt the need to warn others about this company. They were awful to deal with they scratched hardwood floors and did not care in the least about the damage. On another note, my daughter left her apple airpods out and they were no where to be found after they left. Find another company. read more

I hired Metropolitan Movers Ottawa for my move on August 30th. I had booked them for 11 a.m. as I had to coordinate my move with the people moving into my condo at 3 pm. After trying to get confirmation of my move the day before by constantly trying to reach my "rep" Johni, I was finally told that the moving crew would be at my condo building between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., as they have a 2 hour "buffer". After calling Johni every 10 minutes after 1 p.m., since there was no sign of any movers, he finally sent 2 guys with a dolly at 2:30 to start bringing my stuff down to the parking garage in the hopes that it would go quickly loading everything in the truck once it showed up. After being told numerous times that the truck was "on the way", it finally showed up at 5:05 p.m...a full 6 hours after the time I had requested. At this point, we had to share the freight elevator with the movers hired by the couple who bought my condo. By this time, my stress level was through the roof and I was calling friends to come help me move the rest of my stuff as the 4 movers that were there to move my stuff were slow as molasses, one of which appeared high on pot and wearing sandals. I ended up having to carry everything out of my storage locker and brought it to the truck to expedite things, all while my movers were having fun going down to the P1 parking level on their trollies. After being told that they were taking some time to go have dinner, they finally showed up at my new house at 9 p.m. after dropping a load of boxes marked "kitchen" on it and laughing about it, they finally left at 10 p.m. 2 broken dinner plates and 6 broken coffee mugs later, we were then asked to pay 3 hours of the condo buyer's moving fees cause of my own moving company's delays, they were charged extra for the time it took for their own movers. Do yourself a huge favour and call any other moving company in the Ottawa area for your move. read more

They showed up 5 hours late, the truck was filthy and the moving pads and blankets were wet and filthy as well. The immediately tried to add charges to the quote and even told me "I hope you have nothing valuable because people steal". Broke a dresser and hid it behind boxes in a child's room, would not move the washer and dryer to the basement claiming it was too big (I moved them myself with a friend later) , claimed my wife told them to "leave the deep freeze in the garage" (I made them move it) and at the end tried to tell us that 1:45pm - 6:45pm constitutes 6 hours. To top it off, they moved garbage I had tagged as garbage and asked them not to move. Terrible experience, the manager is rude and does not communicate with the client. Never again. read more

One of the most unprofessional companies I have dealt with in my life. The company cancelled my inter-city move the day before it was supposed to happen, and the person on the phone insisted that the manager refused to speak with me about the situation (you could hear them hiding in the background giving orders). This occurred after they spent two days calling repeatedly with various problems about the move (that the truck was broken, that they didn't have time, etc), but confirming the move, until they finally cancelled 22 hours before the move was supposed to occur, leaving me scrambling to find another mover. When I asked for advice as to what to do, they just repeated that they were unable to do the move at all unless it was late at night, of course, after I told them that the elevator wasn't available then. When I asked if they would be charging my credit card despite not doing the move, they said I could "check with my bank" to make sure they didn't. Very unprofessional, definitely do not use this company if you want some peace of mind on moving day! read more
