AVOID, AVOID, - Long but worth the read. Good reviews mean nothing if you're not taken care of when things go wrong. I liked my contact in the office and went with my gut. July 10th, our move started well -- the team inspected all the walls both before loading and at the new house before unloading. Good start but unfortunately, went downhill. The move took as long as our move from Montreal two years earlier, including a 2 1/2-hour drive. This move was a 5 minute drive from where we were living. It became clear that our antique furniture was mishandled: My buffet was gouged and a piece broken off the back. The roller ball from an antique table leg fell off and was lost. I asked them to check the truck; the response was "It's dark." I asked them to let me know the next day -- never heard back. My husband's desk had a piece broken off. Too many things to list. Several other items were broken. Boxes were well-labeled, but mostly ignored. Here's where some of them ended up: Cutlery box office upstairs Pantry items furnace room Fancy glasses upstairs hallway Bathroom box office upstairs Master closet items office upstairs Office supplies kitchen counter Living room décor upstairs office cupboard Bedroom furnace room When I couldn't find my cutlery box and asked the team leader for help, he literally said: "Nope, it's late. We're done. Deal with the office." That summed up the attitude perfectly. I still tipped them and said it would have been more. Some boxes weren't found for a long time. One of the movers even said, "It was a bad day." -- It added so much stress especially that boxes couldn't be located. One imoportant box labelled Bedroom wasn't found for over 3 days. It was finally found in the furnace room behind a table that the box wasn't visible. The Aftermath I followed the office's request and sent a detailed email with pictures, copied many people. Then... silence. July 23 - I asked if they could check for a missing box. No response. September - told they'd send someone assess the furniture repair,and did but then nothing. By then, I had already followed my bank's advice after being refused asking to a partial paymenht, submitted all documentation, and they agreed I was justified -- so the payment was reversed. That finally got the company's attention. When they contacted me in November they said they couldn't resolve anything "until payment was made." I told them I would love to pay my but no one had gotten in touch to actually resolve anything or answer questions.. That was the last straw and I spoke with an owner, who was shocked by the breakdown in communication. and other things that happened. He reduced the bill by $300 and sent someone to repair the furniture. They were also supposed to: Install a new roller ball on my table which I supplied btw. Steam clean the upholstered part of my slat bed and realign it. Assess wall chips left by the movers and repair. Arranged for movers to come do this. But it was never clear who was responsible for what.bThe steam cleaning wasn't done by them nor the person who came to assess the wall. One mover even commented he "has bad days all the time." I told him: That's not what customers want to hear.It was arranged for 10:30 and got texted before 8:00 they were on the way. I re-arranged the time again. When I relayed that to the owner, he suddenly decided to cut off communication, even after emailing asking him to call. He claimed the wall and mattress issues "weren't move-related. even after our discussion" They sent $100 and stopped responding completely. All businesses have problems and it's all how it's solved that the story gets told. Final Thoughts This whole experience has left a terrible taste in my mouth. Many details are left out, but in short -- the lack of responsibility, poor communication, and dismissive customer service were unacceptable. Please, avoid this company read more

In the fall of 2022, we stored our classic car with Boyd's Auto storage division - In hindsight a very regrettable decision. When my husband went to pick up the car in June 2023 the person in charge refused to release the car to my husband as he could not produce a valid drivers license.... My husband had three government issued ID's plus 5 credit cards in his name as well as his cell phone which the person in charge could have verified by calling him. The three-government issued IDs consisted of a: Province of Ontario photo Health card, a government issued Auto Mechanics license and a government issued boating license plus credit cards in his name. The person in charge of the garage insisted my husband could not drive the car out of the garage without proving to him that he had a drivers license which he would need to personally verify! Apparently he is under the mistaken impression that he has some sort of law enforcement powers...... Ironically the person in charge of the storage garage recognized my husband from when he dropped off the car in the fall, which can only mean that this is not about the ID but more about either abuse of authority or an attempt to extort another month or two of rent My husband had no choice, but to submit to Boyd's holding his car hostage as they guy in charge of the garage had the keys and the final say! Later that day my husband called Boyd's and spoke with Catherine in billing. After explaining his situation and the what had occurred, she promised that the owner of the company would call him. The owners call back never happened! My husband is seriously ill and this person has deprived my husband of a last ride in his cherished vehicle. My husband does not have any other government issued ID and is now too ill to have any further use of the vehicle. We will not be held hostage by another dishonest moving company that holds client's goods hostage until they pay up by using unethical demands for ID as justification. As we cannot provide any further ID, the car will remain at Boyd's. Insurance has been removed from the vehicle and all future rent payments are now blocked on the credit card. Boyd's can do what they wish with the car - Sell it or keep it as the cost to pursue the matter via civil litigation is not economical. Apparently they are located in the "West End" and since I was just South of Ottawa (Osgoode, technically it IS the City of Ottawa) and moving to Carleton Place, they felt that I should find a mover "closer to me". Used Boyd Moving to move to the Maritimes from Ottawa in April of 2012. The movers were extremely friendly, there was a delay in moving my stuff as I didn't have a ton of stuff to move, and they were waiting for more things to be shipped (to make it cost effective) which I was fine with because they constantly updated me. Quick responses to e-mails, professional service, and they gentlemen they worked with here who unmoved the stuff were professional, friendly and polite. A piece of my furniture fell off (it was a shelf) in their warehouse and they shipped it to me overnight. read more

If you book through flexmove.ca confirm everything directly with Boyd as they lost my reservation through this service, despite having completed all the necessary requirements, including a deposit, well in advance of the scheduled date. They do not answer the phones and have a buzzer at their door that no one answers, so on the day of our move across the country, I had to bang on their doors to have someone answer to explain why they didn't show up at the scheduled time. I was told it was a computer glitch and it was lost. Seemed very unorganized while I waited for them to figure it out. Complaints went completely ignored by flexmove.ca who is the third party that organizes the shipments; however, they do not respond to any complaints or requests for information as to why it went wrong. This was the beginning to my move across the country and was a very unpleasant start to the move, which is already insanely stressful. read more
