We had a great experience with Marc and his team. I identified 3 well rated moving companies and contacted them. One did not respond at all. The second one wanted me to provide a detailed list of items to move - instead of coming to see us and providing a quote. And the third one - Top Notch (Marc the owner) - contacted us quickly and setup a day/time to come and talk to us, and assess clearly what needed doing. Marc showed up and I liked his honest approach immediately. He was very upfront, took notice of special items, asked many questions and told us, with great sincerity, how great his team was. I knew from that meeting that I would go with Marc. Moving day came - and - due to pretty severe illness 1 week prior to our move - we were behind on our packing. Marc and his team were wonderful and got us moved regardless. His team was fabulous: friendly, happy, fast, efficient, and careful. We really enjoyed dealing with them. I had a number of precious pieces of furniture that they were very aware of and very careful with. (Note: I had gotten appraisals and purchased insurance via Top Notch for these items and this is an important step, as the standard move insurance is by the pound and will not come close to covering actual replacement costs for anything of any value.) Book these guys for your next move! As the owner of art and antiques, fine furniture, etc, I was nervous about who to go with. These movers, led by the professional, enthusiastic Marc, wrapped everything individually with blankets. Friendly, respectful, courteous, and able to handle fragile objects and belongings with care. They were on budget, speedy, systematic. They refused any help in lifting/moving anything. Don't get in their way, it'll only hamper the flow. We have moved a couple of times and always use movers to make life easier. We decided to go with Top Notch because they sounded the best, their price was reasonable, they had one of the bigger trucks and they had great guaranties. However we were strongly mislead and mistaken. They quoted us at 115/hr for 3 movers with a 25ft truck (minimum 4 hours) that was about the average we found. They were to be at our house at 0930 per the email and all the info given to us. NO in person quote was done to help with an estimate and the manager or owner never made himself available. However day of the move no one shows up until 1045. They were stuck in traffic, and did I mention you pay there driving time as well. To make matters worse we were paying for 3 movers and only 2 showed up. We start the loading of everything in the house, big items first. We give the 2 MOVERS a detail on everything that is going. All was in boxes except for a couple of miscelaneous items we stated they didn`t need to worry about. We left them in the lower part of the house as we had a couple of last minute things to finish upstairs. When they were done the lowed part they started with the boxes on the main floor and garage. About an hour and a bit later they stated they were done and if someone could head to the new house so they could follow. No big deal at this point. One of us stays the other goes. After they left I went downstairs to get a bag of garbage from when we were cleaning and to vaccumm. Upon arriving downstairs that`s when the giant chunks of floor I noticed were missing. GIANT scratches so deep the hardwood floor in that area had to be replaced. Also a giant chunk missing in the ceiling which need to be patched and they busted a door completely off it`s hinges. Immediately took photos and tried calling the company manager with no success. Called the other person that was at the house to tell them to keep a close eye on them since the damage they already caused. That is when I was informed that they were just unloading everything onto the main floor in the living/dining room. Apparently they were going to unload and get everything to the new house and then bring it into the appropriate rooms. ( seemed like double the work however again not my legs and back so whatever is easier for them ) They needed to do 3 trips because of how poorly they loaded the truck and 5 hours from when they arrived the 3rd mover finally arrived. As they continued with the move we continued to try and contact their boss. ( no luck ) The day went on and they seemed to add more scratches and holes to the walls. On the last load we asked if one of them wanted to start bringing the boxes and all the items into the proper rooms, as we had basically no room left to even stand on the main floor, and they preceeded to tell us that isn`t in their contract. At this point we have finally reached their manager and explained the situation and what has happened emailing him the evidence and informing him of the lateness of the 3rd crew member. The manager actually said it`s not their problem and that was the agreed upon service and so on. No where in the email contract sent does it say if they cause huge amounts of damage that they aren`t responsible and that they don`t need to move the objects into the appropriate room. They finished the move and handed us a receipt that says this amount has been charged to your credit card or pay cash. We explained that we weren`t paying for this poorly completed job and that we either deserved the job done the proper way or a discount. They said if you don`t pay us cash we will just charge your Credit Card with a 3% fee. We had to pay them 1050 dollars for the 7 hours of "work". With the stress of the day and not being able to move we didn`t notice how much stuff they fail to not even bring. NONE of the dressers we brought because they stated they needed to be fully disembled. WTF!! Never has any company made us do that. Take the drawers out yes ( and we had ) but they stated completely apart. They also took NONE of the bed frames because they weren`t fully dissembled. Head and foot boards were off not sure what more they needed to have taken apart. They also left basically EVERYTHING in the garage. The couple of objects they did decide to put in a different room, besides the living area, they told us they would be putting them in the basement as that is the easist for them. So enturn they put two chairs and our fireplaces all in the basement. We basically spent the whole week getting the rest of the everything they didn`t bring from the old house to the new, arranging the boxes into the rooms they needed to be in so they could be unpacked and so that we could move around at a somewhat normal space. I would NEVER RECOMEND them to anyone and we have told enough people, who have told enough people that hopefully it will spread so that more know. read more
