Chicken burger and "chips"

I used to love Metropolitan. It was my go to place on a day out with the girls for a bite to eat and lovely cocktails. Then it got very overcrowded and became the place to be for a while. And that's when I kind of started to fall out of love with it. It was no longer the place you could always get a seat and listen to quite chilled house music whilst getting drinks brought directly to your table. It was a cramped, twenty minute wait kinda place. I just stopped going. We ended up here for a drink last week after a meal and it seems a lot of people had decided to give Metropolitan a pass these days. There were couples taking up entire booths and no massive queue at the bar. We headed upstairs to the piano bar and got a booth straight away. This was nothing like I remembered it. The drinks I ordered were both tasty enough. A Lynchburg Raspberry and a Mango Frozen Daquiri. I got a sip of my friend's salted caramel martini and it was by far my favourite! However the atmosphere had gone from nice and chilled, to busy and tense to, now, a bit flat. It's such a shame because this really was one of my favourite places to go in Merchant City. I'm now on the hunt for a new cocktail bar with a laid back atmosphere since Metropolitan has lost a lot of its charm.

Great place for really good cocktails! Fav cocktail: parma violet. Not that keen on the food here so will just stick to the cocktails.

Really enjoyed the prosecco and steak here. The steak was well cooked and very tasty but would have been much easier to eat on a plate. Mine was served on top of the chips (making them soggy) and salad in a pasta bowl!? Very awkward to cut steak when it's piled on top of things. Also rather heavy on the red onion in the salad. The pate was nice too but not enough oatcakes (a familiar problem in many places) although I was brought some more when I asked. We were there for lunch at a free event - the service was great and the place is nicely decorated in a modern yet comfortable style.

Some friends and I had just been out for a nice meal in the Merchant City when we were tempted to go for some after-dinner drinks. As we walked past the Metropolitan, we decided to head in and share a bottle of wine. This is a nice bar. Joined to the Merchant Square, you have the option of sitting indoors or 'outdoors' in the large covered courtyard. After just a few minutes we were approached by a very friendly, smartly dressed (and drop dead gorgeous might I add) waitress who took our order and brought our drinks to the table. Unfortunately, as you'd expect for a nice bar- the drinks ain't cheap. The cocktails were pricey so it was more economical to share a bottle of vino. For a Thursday night, the place was quiet but enough people were about to give you a bit of an atmosphere. Sitting in the adequately-heated Square surrounded by potted plants, it almost felt like we were dining outdoors on the continent- what a lovely experience on a cold November night.

Definitely one of the top cocktail bars in Glasgow. Wide selection ranging from martinis, to hurricanes, to prosecco based drinks. (They also have your standard beer etc). My favourite right now is the Salted Caramel Martini which is garnished with a sliver of salted caramel - not that i need an incentive getting to the bottom of my glass. Too easy to drink though. The bar staff are very attentive and helpful, and will also come up with a special cocktail for you if it's not on the menu. I would recommend sitting outside on the cobbled Merchant Square.

So I ordered some olives to snack on. Not that impressive of a menu. But I figure this place is more for drinks, snacks and desserts. I ended up with a cappuccino martini and it was made with precision. Great prices for what you get. The service here was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was elegant and laid back at the same time. The ceiling and chandelier are absolutely breathtaking. One of the chandeliers at this spot is the second largest in the world...I kid you not. I recommend stopping by here if in the area for the best customer service where they treat you like a queen.

I've visited here a couple of times for meetings/Yelp events and so hadn't had the chance to properly try it as a customer. Afternoon tea is £14.95 pp which is a pretty amazing price compared to some other places in town which are over £20 pp. For this you get: chef's top plate of cakes, homemade Glengoyne whisky macerated sultana & plain scones with clotted cream & jam, chef's selection of sandwiches - smoked salmon & cucumber, roast beef & horseradish mayonnaise, egg & cress, cream cheese and pickle. And tea, obviously. We were seated in the lounge area of Champagne Central which you could easily miss if you didn't venture far enough into the bar. It's super cosy and comfortable, and has lovely couches so it's nice to sit back and relax rather than be perched at the tall chairs in the bar. Initially service was a little patchy but the waitress explained she'd only just started working there, and she was really lovely and helpful. The other waitress who was helping us (Izabella) was great and super helpful with everything we threw at her! I'd forgot to mention that I wanted a gluten free afternoon tea when we'd booked. I mentioned it when we were there, expecting they couldn't do much about it but they went to the furthest ends of the earth to accommodate me and give us updates on how far away our afternoon tea would be. It was probably a 1/2 an hour wait which wasn't too bad seeing as I should have warned them in advance! And a separate plate of peanut-free cakes were delivered for Bex. I've had a gluten free afternoon before elsewhere, and it was dire. Spongy bread and rock-hard scones. So I wasn't sure what to expect here. When the food arrived it looked really good - and I mean, properly good. I got mini rolls rather than sandwiches and these were some of the nicest, freshest rolls I've had (and that includes gluten rolls). The scone was amazing! So fresh, light and fluffy, I actually started to doubt it was gluten free, it was so nice. Served with clotted cream and pots of jam, we were in scone heaven. The cakes were also a great selection and I really enjoyed those too - but for me the highlight was the scone. They even packaged up my second scone for me to take home. All up, this was a really great afternoon tea which is a steal for the price and a really nice atmosphere to sit and relax with the girls for a couple of hours. I'd say it was moderately busy but never noisy as the seats are spread really far apart, so you can even forget you're in a busy bar.

And that's not just for the main dining room. They couldn't even get it for the bar area. Well, it was after the holidays when we walked in asking if there was anything available for a drink. Our luck, the lounge was available. Dining room was still all booked out. It was fine, lounge when you walked in gives you that gentleman smoking lounge vibes. The dark wood, tufted seats and the library wall. Faux I believe which maybe alcohol behind it. Even the bar area was quite nice. As it was the holidays or after, the place was still well into all the decoration. The detail they put into this place is magnificent. The whole aesthetic and atmosphere was amazing. Regardless if you in the main room or one of the lounge, it still worth it. There were loads of people just coming in to take pictures. All the staff were well dressed and presentable. The Dome, an institution of Edinburgh that is worth checking out. For a meal or drinks or even a wander through.

The restaurant is in amazing building located in the heart of town. Main dining area is upstairs. I think there's a bar and lounge area on the main floor where hostess table is. The way the restaurant is built. Main dining room is on the level above hostess table. The decor is quite nice with amazing decors and two fireplace on each side. An impressive wine display on both side and there's a little seated area that's above the main floor. Restroom is another flight of stairs up. There's also a little hidden dining area where it's a Romeo and Juliet experience. A little romantic table that's just for you and your spouse that looks out above the main room. If you go up another level, there's the private dining room for special events. Fun dining experience with the sunken seating and a flat screen. Also around the corner from that is more of an intimate group dining experience. I don't know if menu changes seasonal but this visit we tried the three course menu. They also offer a two course. For the price, it was worth it. You choose from a starter, entrees and a dessert. Drink menu was good and they pretty much had a good selections on wine and mixed cocktail. For the meal, a couple of the starters of skewers, chicken tacos which is odd for Thai but good and the chicken karage. Basically chicken nuggets. A single serving of the hot and sour soup. Even though it's a Thai restaurant, it had some mix items. Starters were quite nice and well presented. Entrees, the panang curry, a green curry, pad thai and Malaysian curry. Food was quite flavorful and tasty. For the price it's a bit pricey for Thai but is good. I've always had a good experience and meal each visit. One of my favorite restaurants in Scotland.

Some classy looking reds and white wines were on the menu but they had house wines too for more of a budget friendly option. I ordered Pommery (£12 a glass ) and pop corn (£4.50). I liked the snack option - I wanted something to soak up the alcohol as I'd knew I'd eat in London plus eat fish on the plane so this was new from the previous incarnation. Joe and Sephs pop corn is also gluten free and they had 3-4 different types which I liked. The bowl was actually quite a big bowl so pretty filling. Service was friendly and efficient. Decent pour of champagne too and toddled off a bit buzzed for my flight :-) I'd probably come here again if I'm on a later flight as it was a nice wee treat to start of my travels. #yelpmission
