Phenomenal dinner from start to finish. We began with the short rib empanada, filet mignon spring rolls, followed by the stuffed rigatoni. For entrées, we had the General Tso chicken and the Asian skirt steak -- everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Dessert was the perfect ending with donut holes and a mason jar apple pie crumble. Amazing meal and a great experience overall. Highly recommend!

Valentine's Day dinner. We got to the restaurant really early and we were fit in at an earlier time which was perfect as we were starving. Got two appetizers and both were over the top delicious! ( stuffed portobello and Valentine sushi roll). Main course was just as good. Steak for each of us. Whole meal was perfect including a drink for my love and a cappuccino for myself. Our server Amelia made the evening even more special with her attention to our every need. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal and amazing atmosphere.

My friend and I got together for dinner. When we arrived we parked in the lot. We walked into a really cute restaurant. We were sat and were served by Josh and he was great. We had some cocktails that included the vodka martini which were good. We also had some fries. It was a good experience all in all.

After visiting Metropolitan Cafe for the first time yesterday, I'm already dreaming about my next visit to this restaurant. First off, the bread and butter you start off with is great. The raisin rolls with the maple butter is so unique and a pleasant start to the meal. For appetizers, we had the crab cake and the tuna tartare pizza. The crab cake was fresh and pleasantly crispy with a delicious sauce on the plate. The tuna tartare pizza also had a great balance of sauces with the tuna and cucumber on an extra-crispy scallion pancake. For my entree, I got the crab cake sliders. Like the crab cake, the crab itself was delicious. The buns were nice and soft, while the slaw added a nice crunch. The French fries were also decent. I tried a piece of the chicken quesadilla off the specials menu which was pleasant, but nothing special. Additionally, I had the angry dragon roll. This roll had an amazing combination of textures, and the roll melted in my mouth. Outside of the food, the service here was excellent. The servers were regularly refilling our beverages, and the food came out quickly. Additionally, this place has a moody and intimate vibe that makes for the perfect dinner setting. All I can say is I cannot wait to be back here!

Whether you are a longtime fan like me or trying Metropolitan for the café, you're in for something special. This restaurant located in downtown FREEHOLD is my go to spot for incredible food. The filet mignon eggrolls are a must try and I order them every single time I come here. The tune of volcano was the perfect fusion of sushi and crab salad. I truly enjoyed that tender Asian skirt steak the sushi is impressively fresh and our dessert was nothing short of spectacular. The donuts were heavenly, but the creamy Nutella crème brûlée stole the show. Metropolitan Café never disappoints. It's a place. I will always return to and highly recommend. Came here with my two of my colleagues got some holiday dinner and man I'm glad we came here! I love this spot, great food, great drinks and great service. This is nicely located in heart of downtown freehold by the American hotel with a nutcracker greeting you as you enter their premise. The interior is nicely decorated and the staff is so nice. We've ordered some eel rolls, some crab cakes sliders, pasta and desserts. I think the food was delicious and the dessert was soooo good! Their wild berry sangria btw, you have to try it! I mean I'm a huge fan of wild berry but this sangria really hit the spot!

I went out to the Metropolitan Cafe with my parents for dinner and we enjoyed ourselves! I really like like the atmosphere that the Metropolitan Café has to offer. It has a nice ambience on the inside as well as the covered patio. We sat outside at first but it started raining so we had to move inside. We ordered the calamari / shrimp appetizer as well as the pork fried dumplings. I really enjoyed both appetizers! The calamari / shrimp was definitely my favorite. I also ordered the wonton soup. I loved the wontons as well as the shrimp in the soup; I just wish it had more scallions and a bit more flavor! My parents and I both ordered salads. I ordered a Caesar salad with steak. My mom ordered the pear and walnut salad with steak and my dad ordered the grilled steak salad! We all enjoyed the salads. I did again feel that the Cesar salad was missing that special something though! Overall, I will definitely try out the Metropolitan Café again! I'm very interested to try their other appetizers as well as some of their meat entrées!

    Shishito peppers w/chorizo

We came here for a date night and had a really fun experience. If you're looking for a more intimate setting, be sure to chose the side dining room or upstairs as the main bar area can get a little loud. We sat in the side dining area and started with a couple of adult beverages. I liked how they bring you a flask of bourbon for the old fashioned and pour it into the glass once it's on your table. It took us a bit to order but once we did, we got our food quickly. All of the apps sounded great and we had a hard time deciding on what to get but eventually chose the blistered shishito peppers w/chorizo. Really enjoyed the peppers, sausage and garlic sauce that the dish was served in. For dinner, we each chose two sushi rolls - one off of the specialty list and one from the traditional list. The sushi was fresh, nicely presented, and super tasty. Overall, had a good experience and would definitely come back whether it's for a drink and apps or a full blown meal.

The bi-level bar and lounge was dark, swanky, and seductive. It would make an excellent spot for dates or groups of friends, like mine. We started off sitting at the bar, as there were no large tables available upon our arrival. However, after about 15 minutes, the host approached to tell us that he could actually seat us. I picked up my glass, which was wet with condensation, and it slipped out of my hands. I was able to collect it with only a minor spill, but the host insisted that the bar staff make me a new cocktail in case the glass had chipped at all. It was a considerate gesture that I greatly appreciated. Plus, since I had already taken a few sips, I was thrilled to get those back in a new glass! In terms of my cocktail of choice, I had opted for the Hot Tijuana Tease, a fiery blend of mezcal, blanco tequila, chile poblano liqueur, and lime juice. So, it was essentially a spicy margarita, and it was excellent. There were clean, crisp notes of peppery heat balanced with layers of robust smoke. My only complaint about the lounge was that the bathrooms were beyond tiny. There were two unisex stalls in a very tight alcove that also included a cramped sink counter. It was awkward and uncomfortable to share that space with another patron. Aside from that, the Hide Rooftop was a beautiful place with a friendly staff and interesting drinks.

It had a side of roasted elephant garlic, which my husband absolutely loves, so I couldn't NOT save it for him.But the thing is, they took it away without asking me if I wanted to pack it or not. And I brought this up, not once, not twice but -- 3 times-- with the wait staff. When I asked one of the waiters what the manager said, He replied " I'm not going to lie, I don't remember" Before I left, I asked my server if I could speak to the manager-- The manager finally met with me. He said that he was "trying to find you to give you my card" because "he did hear about the incident and he feels really bad." Mind you, even after I spoke to the first person about this incident, we were there for close to another 30 minutes (at least). Sitting at our table, having dessert and drinks . No one came back to address the situation, no one offered to make another plate of food for my husband to make up for the food they accidentally threw away. He offered his card, but I declined because I will not be going back. Honestly, poor service and optics for a high-end restaurant, at best. If you're used to high-end haute cuisine and have an eclectic palette, I'd skip this restaurant. If you want "the usual" nice-enough restaurant with good with a decent-enough ambience-- this is a good-enough place. For me, a place like that-- with "standard fare" cuisine, should have above average service. That's where they fell short.

Since we had parked right next to The Standard, we chose to give it a try for lunch--and it was the best decision we've made in a long time. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant itself was just as lovely. We were a party of five, including a 14-month-old baby, and our waitress could not have been more accommodating. Another great convenience is that the hotel also has parking available in the back. I only wish I had taken photos! We started with appetizers--crispy calamari, mussels, and chicken wing lollipops. For our entrées, we ordered the French Dip sandwich, the Carnegie Reuben, and two Standard burgers. We also asked for a kids' pasta. Expecting the usual penne, we were surprised when angel-hair pasta arrived. Our little girl had never tried it before, so we requested a substitution. Although our waitress explained that angel hair was the only pasta they typically have, she returned moments later to let us know the chef was going to get penne just for us. That level of service truly stood out. The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. We enjoyed our visit so much that we are even considering hosting a family wedding and a baptism here. Thankfully, the other man who was working at the bar advised us and told us that the kitchen would make the meal Gluten-free for us, which was awesome. We really liked it. Also got a wedge salad with steak which was really good. I'm so glad we clarified things because it could've been a real health issue if we didn't. I think the server needs to be l educated on the severity of allergies and to ask instead of assuming if he isn't sure. We also ordered an apple pie and asked for iced cream on the side and it came out on top. There was also so much liquid floating around in the dessert. We didn't even ask to send it back because it was already a tense interaction with him as he just seemed annoyed our entire time there. Barely ate the dessert and when I had mentioned to him that we asked for the ice cream on the side I don't think he understood and asked if I wanted a box to take it home but I just said no. I just barely ate it and took it as a $14 loss. We were going to get one more drink because we were enjoying being outside even though the service wasn't that great, but the server ended up l bringing us the check, which we hadn't asked for yet so we took it as a sign to just go. I think we just got stuck with someone who did not like his job and was unhappy he was there and unfortunately it did taint our experience. Would potentially go back if we notice someone else working outside.

It truly felt like you were being transported to the 1920's when the staff brought us downstairs. The menu features many different speciality cocktails and includes a couple mocktail options. Also had an option to create your own drink! Will definitely be back to try a couple more drinks off the menu!

We have visited there a few times and they have different themes during the year, the ambiance is…read morereally cool. Right now they have a tiki theme, however, that's it in my opinion as far as draw to keep going there. The drinks are an overpriced smoke screen for people who want to waste money on a sugary drink. And it goes along with the whole Asbury Park eclectic vibe but most of the drinks have a 5 or more ingredients I never heard of (which is fine) but it waters down the drink. I don't want to have a drink (or pay $15+ for a drink) that tastes like a fruity cup of juice. As far as the limited food suggestions on the menu- only 2 or 3- this is the third time we've been there and they said they were out of food -so then take it off your menu if you can't be consistent!!! We're not just going to keep drinking without anything to eat to go along with it. As far as the service it's inconsistent, when we sat down there was only two of us- The server was very nice but we waited too long for our drinks. A party of 7 came in about 1/2 hour after us and they had their drinks within 5 minutes- that should never be. After one drink we got the check and we left, we are completely scratching it off our list, we will not return there. It does bum me out because it has such potential and there's nothing like it around but I'm not going to visit an establishment where I walk away feeling it was a waste of money.
