The owner of this company, Grant Freking, is the most unscrupulous liar I have ever tried to do business. Months ago I put in an order for which he demanded up front payment. I finally agreed to pay him half with the other half when finished. As I was leaving town the day after installation and when he didn't show up as promised, I cancelled the job and asked for my money back. Then, I found that he had used my card to charge me for the uncompleted work as well. Later I found that he debited my account for yet another payment beyond the original agreement. I have been trying for over three months to get my money back and finally, after multiple promises and lies, I got the first two payments back. I still don't have the final payment. 2nd time I've used them with 3 years in between. Thought maybe my first experience was an anomaly. Other than the time from the first response up until taking the deposit (or asking for the whole thing up front, which I wouldn't do), there has been no response or followup. Promised delivery 3 weeks out for 4/26 but after multiple no calls/no shows, finally showed up unannounced and delivered on 5/5. The first delivery didn't cover everything and we needed another 60 bales, so we set it up and paid the deposit on the same day. Never got a deliver date. No response to any texts or emails asking for delivery dates initially, and since then no response when asking for a refund. It's now September with no delivery, no refund, and no response to any communication. read more

Horrible experience this time around. Started the process in March and finally in May had to dispute charges with Venmo due to multiple failed promises, poor communication, and a failure to even refund the deposit when then were unable to deliver. Avoid at all costs. read more

Ordered 75 bales of pinestraw (front and backyard) with installation for my home that's going on housing market. Their rate pet bale is reasonable compared to buying from Homedepot etc, and once you factor in the installation and delivery, their rates make economic sense. Installation work is very professional-- my real estate agent was impressed by the team's work. All interactions from estimation (sent photos of property) to payment coordination were completed via text message, and payment was via paypal, so they've been one of the easiest contractors to work with remotely. They get a one star because their pine straw was good quality. Conducting business with them was a nightmare. Multiple promises to deliver, multiple no show. I had to contact them to prod them to deliver. It took the better part of a week for them to live up to their promise to deliver. I was on the verge of telling them to forget it. If you want to reach them.....good luck, no one ever talks to you, it's done through texts, when they feel like it. They are very eager to get paid, that's when they are really eager to communicate. I hate leaving bad reviews but I've had such a poor experience I need to speak up. Do not use this company, keep seaching, thay are many others to use. I own a landscape company and have paid over $1,500 in deposits recently and can't get the work done. What i have gotten was lots of text messages in the first couple if days begging me to get the deposit in with promises to get the work done right away. I mean lots of messages, so many that i had to tell them to back off. Once that deposit was made: crickets! And when I was able to get a response, it was excuse after excuse why they could not do the work when they said they would. The owner has a full time job that is not this business and it is clear that this business is low priorty. I now have to find someone else and I have no confidence that i will get my money back. Metro Atlanta Pine Straw installed 100 bales of long needle pine straw plus wood mulch in large planting beds at my home this week. They arrived promptly and were courteous and efficient. The beds look great and they were careful to clean up edges. There was one bed in the back that was missed but they quickly and cheerfully took care of it when I pointed it out. Was immediately impressed by the level of communication I received from the owner. He even offered to come out to take a look at our house to give an estimate on how much pine straw and mulch were needed. With tons of rain each week finally had a decent day to lay it out. Was very impressed, it appeared to be two professional college aged workers who came to the door to introduce themselves. Not that Pine Straw companies can't be professional, I just never really found any before Metro Straw. Their prices were as competitive as anyone's around and had a good website to estimate things. Great company! Owner Grant is great at texting back a quote . They're busy so he might tell you to text photos of your property and he will be able to quote it from that. But even with the business being busy he's able to send out a crew within 2 days of quoting me. Crewman introduced himself to me and confirmed our property lines before starting the job. They did a great job and left our property clean. Will definitely use them again yearly! read more

Ordered straw online as I had done the previous year (they did a good job but failed to trench). I was scheduled for an install yesterday around noon. NO CALL NO SHOW. I texted around 3 pm. They texted back that they were still "trying to make it my way!" No apologies. I understand things happen and I would not be writing this had an attempt been made to right things today. A young operation led by an industrious student, with student crew as well. Scheduling took some effort but I am pleased with the outcome. The cypress mulch and installation went well (I was present to show them where and to oversee their first visit to the property) though the crew should have come prepared with a wheel barrow and a metal rake to spread the mulch. My wheel barrow tire was flat so they used my hand truck to transport the bags to the site - and I didn't realize they needed a rake until the very end. Overall a B-.... they care about you being pleased and will 'grow into' prompt communication and scheduling as well as having foresight for jobs and what will be required to pull them off without a hitch. Stay way from this company. I placed my order online and after several calls and missed appointment and almost 3 months later the pine straw was delivered and installed. I order and was charged for 60 bales, but it sure doesn't look like that's what was install. There are lots of bare and thin spots. read more
