I like Metro and the setup, but they are pushing me away. The fresh turkeys, never frozen, had been frozen and then thawed. The manager was on the speaker several times saying "wow, fresh turkeys, never frozen, for sale". Ours was still frozen solid in the middle.
The past two months they've bumped prices on 12-cases of pop to $7.50 (anywhere else you get them from 4.99-5.25 regular price, $3.99 on sale). Metro then drops their pop prices to $6.50 ("save $1") or 2 for $12 (sale!), both "deals" more expensive by 1-1.50 than other stores regular prices.
And then their fruit I usually just avoid because it tends to mould faster than other stores.
Then there was their advertised fresh sushi on sale. It was 3-5 days old, not fresh. That's outright lying to the customer. It tasted so awful I took it back despite the inconvenience.
Oh, then there was the time they were selling Lindt chocolate bars for a dollar. Turns out some of those bars had melted in the sun then rehardened once indoors. You can tell they melted because the bar separates into layers with the chocolate in the bottom and a white-yellow waxy layer (about a third of the bar) on top. They also sold milk that had heated up. Strong plastic taste. After returning the third bag I got my money back and bought milk elsewhere for nearly a year.
I do still get some items there but I don't believe them when they advertise "sale" unless I know the price at other stores. And if it is a good price I'm reluctant to buy because they may be trying to get rid of it as it is old or left unrefridgerated. I ignore all claims of "fresh" and just assume it's a way to get rid of old food.
So smarten up Metro. I like the store but I'm already shopping there less and less. Stop gouging us and telling us it's a good deal. Stop lying to us about your product. We are not stupid. It is insulting that you treat us as if we were. read more
