If you've been wanting to add a maple tree to your landscape, Metro Maples is THE place to go. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the various species, even having cultivars developed in Texas for Texas' climate. Even if you're just wondering if a maple is the right tree for your home, you should pay them a visit. The place is like a beautiful botanical garden, shaded by huge oak trees with the maples distributed among the larger trees. They should charge admission and set up a picnic area. It is such a peaceful and lovely location. The staff was very friendly and guided me to a specific species, based on color (I wanted bright red in autumn), maximum height (we have solar panels we don't want shaded), total diameter (so as to not require trimming as it grows outward) and sun exposure (full sun for most of the day). I love going to Metro Maples. It's one of my happy places. I usually go with an idea of what I want. I love that the staff has the knowledge to steer me in the right direction. They have a wide variety of options. I went early winter this last year and bought some trees for Christmas presents. They were quite the hit! I plan to go back this fall for teacher gifts. All the trees I've purchased from them over the years have done well. I've had to move one due to the shade changing, and it is still thriving. I've emailed them pictures of my trees asking questions about them and the staff is always quick to respond and help me with trouble shooting. I've had this tree for 2 months... and it is quickly dying. I purchased it for $1,895 based on their recommendation of when to plant the tree, which happened to be a few days before the big freeze. It's been 2 months and I've already had to remove a few limbs after they are dead and obviously have to remove more very soon. I'm about to be left with a tree with one branch that sticks out sideways, but it cost me $1,895. I'm a reasonable person and I understand things happen... but after reaching out to Metro Maples asking about a warranty, I was told I would need to wait until October and I will be given a discount on a new tree. A discount? On another tree??? After spending $1,895 on a tree that I've had to pay to install and pay to have the dead limbs removed twice, soon to be a third time??????!!!! I'm 2 months in on the most expensive tree I've ever bought, and it has one limb with leaves, 2 I've had to have removed, and another being removed next week. So keep my experience in mind.... I'm writing this review sick to my stomach about this purchase and how they have chosen to handle it. This place has any sort of Japanese maples that you can think of. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. They are over an hour away from my house , but I have to say it was worth the drive. Scott helped me so much , from answering all my emails and questions , and sending me pictures , to help me find what we needed for our yard . Very unprofessional sales who told us wrong instruction and information about the Tamukeyama Maple tree we bought in April 2022. We were told this tree need to be under the shade and that's why we put it under the patio in a pot. Later found out actually it required 6-8 hours of direct sun. When we changed the location of the tree, it was too late. We emailed metro maple and the guy who answered email asked us water it every 5 days even I told him it's obviously too dry if wait to water every 5 days. The tree never turn around and when I googled online, it says need 5-7 galloon of water every week and suggest to water every 2 days in first year. Well, long story short, metro maple refused to refund a $450 tree died in several months. They said they are not responsible for the wrong sales info and email instructions. Do NOT buy from them as they are NOT professional and irresponsible about their product and has no sense of customer service. We should have bought the same tree from Calloway for less than $300 and can return if there is any problem. We even drove an hour to buy the tree. Would NOT recommend this company!!! read more

Today we made our second trip from Austin to Metro Maples. On our first visit about a month ago we bought a Super Dragon Shantung Maple and a Fireglow Japanese Maple. Today we bought a Fire Dragon Shantung. I love how drought tolerant and low maintenance the Shantungs are. We are so thrilled there's such a great place for these specialized, beautiful maple trees. Scott and Steve are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and very willing to answer questions and offer advice. I have also called them on the phone or emailed periodically to ask questions and they have always been very responsive and helpful. If you have any interest in these trees, I highly recommend checking out Metro Maples. You might also want to visit the Japanese Garden in Fort Worth if you haven't been there.
