My daughter got to attend one class... the studio closed due to issues with the building... was set to reopen multiple times but it kept getting pushed back (totally not her fault)... now the studio closed for good... never heard from the owner about a refund. My daughter loves this. She is 3 1/2, and taking the combo tap/ballet with "Ms. Cathy". The location is sort of "nondescript", it's in a business park behind Tio Lio's. It's fun to watch your child engage. Pretty busy place, I can't say if the pricing is reasonable or not, my wife found it & enrolled her. I think it's $39 per month for one hour per week instruction; but then you have shoes, outfits, special outfits for the recitals, pictures....... you get the idea. She is so great with the kids and does everything with a bright big smile. The owner and staff are nice and helpful. I knocked off one star only because I have been in dance studios in the past where the floors are a nice polished wood, whereas the floors at Metro Dance could be improved upon. A Reader City deal brought us here. The fun she has in class and the excitement my kid has in anticipation of class nights has kept us here. She started off trying out the B-Girl class (breakdancing) and loved it. Dat is a great teacher, very patient and the kids seem to respect him. The only problem was there was only herself and another girl in the class and a sometimes tester here and there. After a few scheduling snags, they decided to cancel the class at that time slot. We moved her to Danielle's Hip Hop class and she absolutely loves it! The staff is friendly, the classes seem to be well organized and the school seems to have won lots of trophies in competitions so that's no a bad thing! Overall, they are a good fit for us at this time. I'm not sure if we'll stay after we move but we'll see how little miss reacts when I tell her we may switch schools. =)) read more

We've had our toddler at metro dance for over a year now in jazz/tap/ballet combo. We've had classes at both studios and the facilities are great. Miss Joanne is phenomenal. She is so kind and silly but also very firm. It has been great for my daughters character to learn to listen, stand on her spot, follow instruction etc. We tried other studios and had no luck with her following the instruction of the teachers. Here she listens and engages. There is a yearly performance on a real stage (toddler dream!!) and they perform at the fair. There is a performance and costume fee, but boy it is a mothers joy to watch her come out of her shell in front of 200 people and perform. read more

My daughter went here for about a year and stopped in February mostly because we were having a hard time getting her to class. We actually tried to stop the class in January but we didn't give the 2 weeks notice required. My mom was paying for these dance classes as a birthday gift. February was the last time I received a confirmation email that my moms credit cart was charged. Yet I found out Sunday while visiting her that her card has continued to be charged for the past 6 months since we cancelled. Now, I understand mistakes happen and expected reconciliation once I explained what was happening. i sent an email to Joanne Sunday and got a response pretty quick that she was going to check her records Monday. But I didn't hear from her. Then I sent her two more emails throughout the week, with no response. Then I stopped by today and talked to someone else in the office. Joanne was in class. I was assured she would let Joanne know I came by and have her contact me, but she never did. So now what? Maybe she's ignoring me because I'm a "problem parent." Summer dance camp was well worth it this second year. Even tho the location had to change, it's convenient enough. My girls came out of it stronger and more confident in just a week. I haven't danced at Metro for long and haven't taken a class in so long but the studio is as good as it gets! The staff is amazing. They make you feel at home and are probably the nicest people you'll ever meet. They believe your dance career/hobby/passion is important and they help you strive in whatever you want to do. The studio is well kept and organized. They have two studios but the main one can be divided into two which is pretty cool. They have a "viewing" where parents can sit and watch through the window. I think that's pretty awesome so parents can see what their child is up to and won't have to drive to and from. They also have cubbies for dancers to store their items. Some other cool factors are.. they have vending machines. Not something to be so excited about but its really convenient for those who are hungry and want a quick snack or for the dancers who forget to bring a drink. They were in the process of opening a dance shop which is even more convenient for dancers. I use to dance with Robin when I was a teenager and I'm well into my last years of college.. I couldn't imagine asking for a better teacher. She has great energy, a positive attitude and best of all, she's extremely encouraging. I HIGHLY recommend taking classes at Metro. The best thing about Metro is that they take dancers of ALL ages. Most studios accept 18 year olds and younger but Metro takes everyone. I took a ballet class with sweet ladies who were old enough to be my grandmothers :) You won't be disappointed! read more

I purchased a groupon for this dance studio because I saw that on their schedule they had a mommy and me dance class for 2 year olds on Tuesday mornings. I called on Oct 3rd to make sure this class was still on and was told that yes the class would be starting on Oct 4th at 9am and i was instructed to show up early with my child to register. I arrived at 8:45, studio is closed. I waited and at 9am the teacher of the class showed up but the studio remained closed. Nobody ever showed up to open the studio. The teacher was calling and calling and nobody was answering her, at about 9:20am I finally just left with my now screaming 2 year old. The teacher took my number and said she would call me to resolve this. I still haven't gotten a call about this. Needless to say, i returned the Groupon. Thanks but no thanks. First of all I want to say that I am not usually a negative review kind of person... But this dance studio has been problematic on so many levels and I voiced my concerns to them directly so I have no hesitation about the fairness of this review. We attended classes at "Metro Dance 2" but all of our concerns stem from the administration at "Metro Dance 1" which is why I am posting this review for both locations. The teacher (Tammi) is great with the kids and our daughter has enjoyed the lessons but the planning, communication and coordination concerning ANYTHING has been horrendous. The only way we have learned about the schedule or changes to events is because my wife is proactive and calls the office to ask questions. As two working professionals we need more than a week's notice about the date and/or time of events, especially when it is a recital or performance that we have to pay to attend and is located ~10 miles from the studio! We never received notices about the upcoming events, no one seemed to know about the recitals/performances (including other parents so I know we are not a isolated event) and to cap our experience off, we just learned that our teacher and many of the other teachers are breaking off to form another studio/group, with no mention of it following class or a recital that just happened. We would have shown up to the studio on Saturday expecting to have class with a dressed and prepared 3 year old and have no teacher show-up. This is incredibly unprofessional and shows that the company does not want our business. We have already made the switch to another studio that is clearly more organized/professional and values the dancers' and their parents' time. We tried our best to give the benefit of the doubt and work out the issues but had no luck. Our daughter attended classes for 8 months and these issues persisted; many other parents in our class voiced frustration to us as well and indicated they were not planning to continue at this studio. read more

The studio is centrally located near USD college with adequate parking. I personally found the adult lessons to be geared more towards beginning level, and more expensive per lesson when compared to other studios in town. The studio is older and a bit rundown; for instance, the marley covered floor in one of the rooms is not smooth & puckers in several places, which could present a tripping issue. However, the owner and staff are very helpful and personable. If the studio would modernize a bit, such as offering more fee structure options (especially for working adults), interior improvements and more adult classes in the later evenings, I think it would obtain more adult student dancers. read more

I put my niece in for their summer dance camp. The camp and instruction was fine. However, it was very hot throughout the studio in the middle of July. NO A/C. Only a couple fans that was just blowing the warm air around. In addition, I paid for my niece to stay the extended after hour for care and when I came to pick her up no one was watching her or giving her anything to do. She was sitting on a yoga ball watching another student's lesson. This made me sad to see her by herself as all the other kids had been picked up earlier. When I pay for extended hours, I expect that I get my money's worth and my niece will be supervised. read more

This is a great little dance studio! I am a longtime Zumba dancer, and I have taken 4 Zumba classes all over San Diego, and this is by far the best! It blows the other places out of the water in terms of choreography, cardio level, friendliness of staff and other members! I had tried 4 other locations before finding Metro on a Groupon deal. This dance company has the best price point for the quality in all of San Diego. You or your dancer will progress in skill. They have basic beginner all the way to competition level too. It's a family like environment that supports your child in who they are and their strengths. All of the dance teachers have extensive experience as well. As for the comments below that said the studio is stuffy during the hotter months... The temperature never bothered me. It's just the air of hard working dancers. They have also opened a beautiful new studio to give more options in schedule and location. read more
