Thanks Friends! I was honestly blown away! Have I just been watching mediocre and "bad" modern dance this entire time? The partnering work of the 2nd and 3rd pieces blew me away...mental note to self: work on upper body strength! The rest of the choreography was smooth, wellconnected, athletic, and beautiful; wheras most modern dances I've seen typically looks as if the dancers just got jacked up on Redbull, E and acid, then tossed on stage to do whatever they feel like. The music was interesting and went well with the pieces and lighting; it was not the typical modern dance crazy tribal or gothic "churchy" music, both of which I can't stand. Unfortunately the last piece was "countryish" music, which did not fit with the rest of the show and seemed very out of place; good choreography wasted on a bad piece of music! Overall, I was very impressed with the entire presentation will definitely be back to see future Malashock shows...maybe even take modern classes after a 9 year haitus...

I went to a 6:00 am class, and due to residents living above the studio, you wear headphones. That way, the music is played through the headphones instead of blasting EDM at 6:00 am. I enjoyed this format because I could focus on myself and the prompts from the instructor. Parking can be tricky, but since I went in the early AM, I parked right in front of the studio. A 13 year old had to be in charge of the class when teachers and director did not show up for more than an hour. 3.Director, Laura engages in drama with kids "at the kids level". 4. I made the huge mistake of trying to promote this place with my friend/relatives through YouTube videos on Facebook and I got paid by Laura "reporting me" on YouTube ... (if one gets reported 3 times, they cancel your YouTube account), instead of telling me to take out the videos. UNGRATEFUL ! 6. Because of the negative environment and Laura's not being capable of keeping good instructors, tardiness, poor relations and drama, "many" children decided they did not want to continue. Run !!!

We started a few years back by taking their Summer Camp, we loved it, then we signed my daughter up for group classes and she developed such a passion she now takes private lessons and group classes!! Most of the staff is very caring and show how much love they have for what they do!! The owner is very nice and knows his stuff but one outstanding person here is Mara!! She is exceptional and makes you feel like family! Always has a smiling face and genuinely cares for the success of every kid there! My daughter loves all the staff but in particular loves taking private silk classes with Coach Joel Castro!! He is hands down amazing! At such a young age he shows a very high level of professionalism and is attentive every second of his lesson! He never takes his eyes off the student and provides great constant feedback but most importantly helps my daughter believe in herself and pushes her to grow with each class!! We couldn't be happier and HIGHLY recommend the San Diego Circus Center! Just stop by and see the amazing acrobats their seasoned students do, it's jaw dropping!!

Really liked the feel of…read moreCalifornia Ballet School - their main location is in Kearney Mesa, but this one in Liberty Station is so peaceful - beautiful studio w/ a view, grass lawn, walking distance to everything in Liberty Station. But most of all, they seemed (from observing and talking with other parents and students) to have a good balance of taking dance and technique seriously, but also caring for the students and keeping it fun. New classes start every quarter, and their big end-of-the-year recital is coming up next weekend on July 20.

Came in for a drop-in class ($20) and did not have cash on me. The lady at the desk still let me…read moretake the class and told me I could pay next time I come around since I take class upstairs at Malashock. I thought that was nice! This place is cash or check only so be prepared for that! I came and took an adult beginning ballet class and it was fine. I think it is slightly expensive and the member fee is high. I paid for a membership with Malashock and was under the impression that it covered all 3 resident companies at San Diego Dance Place. However, the Malashock membership apparently does not crossover to San Diego School of Ballet. I will probably come again after I try other different ballet studios in the area.
