I recently had a very disappointing experience at a Metro by T-Mobile store, and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. The employees of this store will try to scam and steal your information.
When I visited the store to transfer my phone number--a process that had already been mishandled by Metro due to incorrect IMEI numbers--I encountered a staff member who acted unprofessionally and suspiciously. Right from the start, I noticed that he was heavy breathing and seemed annoyed by my presence, which made me uncomfortable.
As he began to assist me, he took my personal information--details from my phone as well as my driver's license--and proceeded to put them in his pocket, raising immediate red flags about the security of my data. This was just the beginning of a troubling experience.
Instead of following standard procedures, he started rummaging through the apps on my phone, despite the Settings app being readily available on the first page. It felt invasive and unprofessional.
To make matters worse, he informed me that it would cost $70 to transfer my number or that I would need to purchase a new phone even though my iPhone was unlocked and had previously been registered with Metro. I insisted that the service should be free, as I was told by the Metro customer service earlier.
Instead of adhering to company policy, the employee insisted that I could only pay in cash. He even went so far as to inquire about how much money I had on me and suggested we could "make a deal" if I gave him all my cash. He also asked intrusive questions about my bank account. This is nothing short of a scam, and I could not in good conscience agree to any kind of transaction.
If you go to this location and they "unlock" your number to be transferred and act suspicious with the same questions. immediately re-lock your number so they cannot port it to a burner phone and use it for verification purposes to access your bank accounts and more.
I strongly advise against doing business at this location. It's disheartening to see such unethical behavior from a company that is meant to provide reliable service. If you're looking for help with Metro by T-Mobile, I recommend heading to the location on Meridian instead. They transferred my number and fixed the incorrect information on my account for free and as the customer service department stated.
