Hairstyle defines personality. It belongs to the list of "10-ways-to-make-an-impression" on your first date, a job interview, or even just making new friends. That's why I treat my hair as one of the most significant physical assets in my body.
Well, let's get started. So my go-to hair salon was apparently closed for vacation. My hair was long but still moldable to my preference. However, an important event is coming up and I wanted to look good.
So after hours of research in what to be the closest and reasonably priced barber shop, I ran into Metro Barber Shop. The reviews were great on Google as well as the single review here. So why not give it a shot?
When I've arrived to the place, I parked just in front of the shop, in where I found two men smoking. At first glance, I thought there were customers but one of the guys ended up being my barber. Once I stepped in, it reminded me of the barber shops in the Philippines. The heavy cologne smell, the retro motorcycles pictures on the wall, and even how messy it was (which I didn't mind).
Finally, after waiting for five more minutes to finish his smoke, the guy greeted me with such unenthusiastic hello. So when he asked me, I went with the traditional comb over cut with the sides and back short. He started looking for his shaver clips and finally found them after opening 3 drawers. At that moment, I still gave the guy and the place the benefit of the doubt.
It took him 5 minutes to cut my hair. My hair is shorter on the sides that I asked them to be. No shampoo, no blow dry, no nothing. I even asked him to cut the top thinner just to get my money worth. He asked me if I wanted gel on my hair and I said no. After all that, he charged me $15. I was quite confused for a second because their haircut rates starts at $13. With the amount of effort and time he put into, I thought $15 was too much. Nonetheless, with the person I am, I still didn't hesitate to give him a tip, since a service is still a service no matter how bad it was.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this barber shop. This made me realize that it's okay to pay more for a haircut rather than pay less for a horrible haircut and service. read more
