This was the shortest trail available on AllTrails within the North Cascades National Park, Washington. With that being said, the trail felt long with a ~2.5 mile steady forest incline alongside the mountain. Trail was mostly a narrow rocky dirt path. The views were stunning once the trail opens up out of the forest! Large parking area at the trailhead with additional parking on the side of dirt road. Restroom available at the parking lot. The last ~12 miles were mostly unpaved road with a few potholes near the end. The North Cascades NP Wilderness Info Center was the closest visitor center with magnets, located ~1 hour from the trailhead. The River Loop Trail. An easy trail to visit where it leads into a view of the water. There is a park ranger there available to answer your questions on what trails is open and what is accessible. The Visitor Center is a place where you can relax a little and enjoy the information of maps available to many. There is an exhibit available by the gift shop. The gift shops has various items. Tshirts, magnets and postcards. They sell a little bit of snacks too.

Really nice and clean bathrooms (always a big plus!!). We had cell reception here so it was great to plug our stops in on maps. Make sure to walk around to the back of the visitor center. There's a short boardwalk that's ends with a gorgeous viewpoint of North Cascades. Hands down a must. You can take as little or as much time as you want just enjoying the beauty. The visitor center is also the starting point for the River Loop Trail - an easy 1.8 mile round trip walk with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and the river. Great first stop for your trip to North Cascades.

We had popped in to take a look at some of the available brochure offerings and the like, ask staff a few questions about some of the local attractions, get some driving and walking directions, and check out a map or two. Staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful -- we were able to acquire all the information we hoped for, and left with a good selection of brochures, maps, and other 'stuff' to take back to the car and motel room. Our visit, though quite brief (as we were heading out of the city at the time, and anxious to get on our way), was fun and productive, and we were happy to have made the stop when we did, finding the information very helpful to travelling/activities planned for that day, and onwards over our stay.

I camped at Newhalem Campground in North Cascades National Park two weekends ago (sometime in…read moremid-July) for a quick overnight stay (a Thursday to Friday). I initially booked a walk-in site since I was not up to speed on planning this time, meaning I would've had to park and then carry my gear to the site which was very not ideal for my short stay. Thankfully, I kept checking recreation.gov and was able to grab a more convenient drive-up site!! We arrived in the late afternoon on Thursday, checked out our campsite, set up the tent, and ventured over to the main Visitor Center which was a short drive or walk away. After dinner and a short evening hike, we returned to the site and hopped in the tent. While there was a fire pit in the campsite, there was a fire ban in place during our stay so no campfire for us. Boo hoo. I did, however, make full use of the picnic table in the morning which was helpful in packing up and of course used the bear box overnight for my scented items. We packed up and were out by sunrise to get an early start on our hike (Maple Pass Loop - highly recommend!) Overall, Newhalem Campground was clean and the sites were well marked, spacious (enough room for one tent and a vehicle which was what I needed, and surprisingly quiet, even during the peak summer season. While it's not the most remote or rugged campground in the park (not even close), it's a convenient basecamp especially if you're planning to hit the nearby trails or stop by the visitor center. If you can grab a site, go for it!

We stayed in walk-in sites in loop A and it felt like we were the only ones there. Each site has a tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring. The bathrooms are large and clean. The campground connects to many hiking trails, including one that leads to the visitor center. You can stop by the river too! One note- the nearby dam has a siren that will go off if they turn on the water overflow. It went off at 10:30pm and scared us! But it just warns people along the river that the water level might raise suddenly.

I believe you can book the dinner separately if you choose. We went with the midday tour that included lunch. Really pleased to see this is still going as it has been a thing for almost 100 years! I had fond memories of this tour and thought it would be fun for my wife to experience it since she didn't grow up in the PacNW. Booked the tour along with some friends and Mother Nature smiled on us and gave us some spectacular weather. It's a bit of a drive from Seattle but well worth it. There are some fun diversions along the way if you want to stop and get some farm fresh eggs and vegetables too. The friendly guides will also explain to you why the water is a crazy cool shade of green. :) You'll definitely want reservations for this experience. Quintessential PacNW.
