I received permanent eyeliner with Kathy a few months ago. While I am mostly satisfied with the results, there were a few things that really bothered me that I think others might like to know before choosing Metamorphosis.
-Kathy is very talkative. The consultation alone took over 90 minutes. During this time, Kathy talked about her health, her friends, her family, her dance experience, the actors and choreographers she has worked with, and her dog. Several times she received calls, texts, or even visitors, and every time she was finished with them she would complain about that person and tell me about some problem between them. I was not nervous at all going into the office, but after 2 hours of chatter and negative gossip, I was on edge. It would be different if I had the sense that she was listening to me when I talked (as I repeatedly tried to steer the conversation back to the business at hand), but I felt very much as though she had decided what to do with my eyes the moment she saw me, and wasn't interested in hearing what I was looking for.
-When I walked in I thought I wanted a subtle lash enhancement on the upper eyelid with no solid line, and possibly a smudged lower lash line. I looked through her portfolio (in which all of the people are wearing daily makeup in addition to her permanent makeup, making it very difficult to know what is permanent and what isn't) and chose one that was exactly how I wanted it. The upper lid did have a line (much more than lash enhancement), but the lower lid was smudged eyeliner, not permanently tattooed. I asked her if it was possible to have my lower liner tattooed this way, and she told me that a line would look better. I tried to stand firm on this point, but after nearly 2 hours, I broke down and told her to do what she thought would look best.
-The procedure itself was not bad, but I think her communication could be better. For all of her chatting, she never really explained to me what was going to happen. She would give me very succinct orders - "Close your eyes" or "Open your eyes," but she never told me what was coming next. She put numbing cream on my eyes without telling me what it was. I accidentally opened my eye briefly in surprise and she got annoyed at me and snapped, "Close your eyes!" Then she left for 15 minutes without telling me anything. I really would have expected her to explain the process better, but though she had offered to play some music and make me comfortable, she just slapped on the numbing cream and then left me to sit in the silent room for 15 minutes while she talked to another client about makeup.
-It would have been very helpful if she had given me an indication of which area of the eyelid she was going to focus on. She did tell me we were starting with the lower lashes, and when those were both done we moved to the upper eyelid. But with the upper eyelids, it is understandably very important to reman still and not move your eyes or eyelids as she is working. I would have appreciated a hint about where she was going to apply the needle (outer corner, inner corner, center), so I could point my eye in a different direction because it can be very difficult to keep still with the needle moving right over the center of the eyeball. She was frustrated and short-tempered with me several times as she was working, although in all honesty I was doing my best to "zen out" and go to my happy place during the procedure.
-Aftercare instructions are very vague and nonspecific. The instructions say not to use mascara or eyelash curlers for 7 days after the procedure, but she means NO MAKEUP AT ALL ON YOUR EYE for 7 full days. The instructions should be clearer, as I specifically asked her about this on the phone before scheduling my appointment 5 days before an event that required me to have my makeup professionally done.
For the most part, I like my permanent eyeliner. I think she was absolutely right about the upper line - I would happily get it even thicker in the future! I am very disappointed in my lower lash line. It is exactly what I knew from the start I did not want - a thin line across the lower lashes that looks like a suture. I have waited to post this review for a few months, because she repeatedly told me that eyeliner "shrinks down," which I now understand to mean that the lines you have walking out of the salon will be much thicker than the healed lines 3 months later. I had major swelling after my appointment that made the lines look dramatically thicker than the healed end result. Don't get me wrong, it does not look bad, and the quality of her work is what has earned her any stars at all. But my overall experience was that she was unprofessional and disregarded my requests from the moment I walked in. read more
