I took my pooch Bear to PETCO a couple times then to SOGGY DOG, both these businesses suggested I drug my pooch and/or muzzle him. I did end up getting my pooch vet to prescribe him some meds which did not work. Bear still was not able to be groomed and I did not like the idea of giving him meds. So I STOPPED taking him to get groomed and my family, boyfriend and I would groom him ourselves as we did not like the idea of having to drug him. We could never really get his face though. So one day I began the search again to look for a groomer. I came across MESSY MUTT, I thank god I did. They heard me out and was happy to take in Bear. They even let me sit in and watch for as long as I wanted to. They were very patient with Bear. I like how they did not use hose or the loud blow dryers on my pooch and they even scissored him instead of using clippers. From what MESSY MUTT informed me they said it was a chance those groomers abused my pooch forced him to get clipped and now he is completely afraid of the sound of the clippers coming on. I was completely saddened to hear that my dog was being abused by other groomers and that is why he is hard to groom. They however got the job done and even recommended things for me to do at home for homework with Bear. They even told me to stop by periodically so Bear can get even more comfortable with them. Thank you so much MESSY MUTT and Bear will be coming by for sure once a month. I will also make sure I recommend every pooch's owner to your business. YOU GUYS ARE HEAVEN SENT! I keep forgetting to write a review for Messy Mutt! But for them late is better than never! The owners are AMAZING! I've brought my 3yr old male husky there a couple of times, and they always remember him! You can tell the staff all loves animals, and they help my dog (who is soo attached to me) feel comfortable, at ease, and like they're having a great time right away. They gave me the whole run down on how he behaved and how the groom went when I came back to pick my beautiful boy up. They brightened up his white hair, and had him looking so fluffy and handsome! I had a great experience with Steve and Kaleigh. I was referred to them via Yelp. I am not from Long Beach, but Buster and I were going to be in the area for a short period on Saturday, and called Kaleigh late Friday to set up a last-second appointment. Although they were booked, she took my phone number "just in case" and came off as a caring and customer-service oriented individual, and explained their 'no push" policy. I appreciated that. Buster the poodle mix was in desperate need of a good grooming session, and luckily they were able to fit him in that Saturday morning. They were both very caring and knowledgeable, gave me a complete rundown of what the service included, and showed Buster plenty of love. I am nervous with first-visit outcomes, but Buster came out looking like a first-class show dog! Even his faux-hawk was on point. I took my two dogs here after reading all of the glowing Yelp reviews, and seriously I have never been more impressed with a business I found through Yelp. The owners, Steve and Kaleigh, are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet, and treat both you and your animals with such compassion. I love the idea of supporting a local business and these people are deserving of all the community support they can get. My Yorkie and Poodle both got amazing haircuts, despite their tangles and matting. I was expecting to pick them up nearly shaved because I had let their hair get so bad, but Kaleigh worked hard to leave them both looking gorgeous. My Yorkie is quite a handful and he had a little slip up with the scissors, which Steve was quick to tell me about as soon as I arrived to pick them up. The team at Messy Mutts, from the start, are friendly and welcoming. I called ahead to see what requirements they had in place before I took in my dog. Petco required vaccination paperwork/proof for which I couldn't find and they would not work on Kua (my dog) unless I had that. So I took to Yelp and found Messy Mutts and decided to give them a shot. Kua is pretty friendly to both humans and other pets so I wasn't too worried of how he would behave. His initial reaction was both excitement and apprehension. He got a bit rambunctious when they placed him in the module to get washed as any dog would obviously but they welcomed us to the back where the wash was taking place and encouraged us to be apart of the process and allowed us to comfort our baby and make sure he was ok and not freaking out. That's awesome! I really enjoyed that and it helped put my mind at ease that he's being left in a caring environment. They also repeatedly assured me and my partner that they do not force any treatment or services upon the dog which we also appreciated. If all he was going to put up with was a wash then so be it, luckily he was great throughout the process and allowed for the full treatment (bath, cut, nails and teeth I think). A few hours later, we came back to a great smelling, freshly bathed, groomed and above all, HAPPY dog. He wasn't scared or stressed. We walked his happy ass outside and to our car and he didn't once stop wagging his tail. He looks great and the added Mohawk cut added some spice to his new look. Awesome job guys, Kua will absolutely be returning and I will not hesitate to recommend your services to friends and family. Keep up the great work and we couldn't be anymore pleased. Just moved to the area and I stalked out the right place. I'll do anything to avoid corporate chain groomers and we are glad to have found this place. The vibe is awesome and so are the people. My ona loved it there and she was well groomed and shedding is gone! I have a forty pound golden retriever border collie and she is looking fancy pants. I seriously do not know where to begin.. I have been searching high and low for a new place to bring my soon-to-be 6 year old Shih Tzu named Max since my favorite groomer moved out of state. BUT KALEIGH AND ABIGAIL gave the utmost customer service to my dog and my boyfriend. I, unfortunately was unable to meet the both of them with the exception of speaking to Abigail on the phone when I booked the appointment. Only thing I don't recommend is texting to request a quote because I didn't receive a call back, so just keep calling until you get through. My boyfriend had the day off so he took our dog in. They do require that all shots are up-to-date and they do ask that someone stays for the first 15 minutes or so to ensure that your dog transitions smoothly, which gives me a sense of ease because you know they really want your dog to be comfortable with them. Mind you, my dog is a little difficult to deal with. OVERALL, 10/10 and definitely recommend this place for any of your pups! When he's tired or breathing heavily due to health issues they let him relax, give him treats and only resume when he's up for it. Truly, they are as good as it gets!! Kayleigh and Steve are a wonderful team who take such good care of our fur babies. We have three, a shihpoo, a maltipoo and a poodle bichon - each one has their own special needs an issues and these guys are so kind and gentle with them. They always make room to see them all at once at very reasonable prices. Three dogs can get very expensive. The grooming service is superb. The cuts last for such a long time and they really smell great. Of greatest note, my babies do not cry and scream when they realize they are going to get groomed there. That warms my heart. I go here all the time for my chihuahuas Sandy and Pebbles and cat Harley. The owners (Steve and Kaleigh) are VERY friendly. The price is more than reasonable for the excellent service. Sandy is a bit skittish and usually picky with who she lets groom her. She loved Kaleigh immediately and I had no problem leaving her with her. The place is clean and organized, and like I said the service is excellent. I've never had any issues and I know I will never have to worry about leaving my pets here. I brought my fur babies here for the first time on 8/11/17. They did a wonderful job and were considerate of the needs of my dogs. One of my girls has a lot of sebaceous cysts which makes her hard to groom. She's very lumpy bumpy and using the shaver can leave her uneven looking. At Messy Mutt they cut her hair with scissors.... this is far more time consuming. I didn't have to ask for it or pay extra. She looks amazing! Extremely satisfied with the cuts from Steve and Kaleigh for both my Pomeranians. This spot came HIGHLY recommended by my neighbor and I popped in to get both my babies cleaned, clipped, and styled. Steve and Kaleigh were kind, friendly, and down to earth. They both had such a nice, calm demeanor you can tell they care about their work and making customers happy. One of my poms has very thick course hair and he was shedding in clumps around the house. After his spa treatment here, he felt lighter and amazingly smooth! It was absolutely wonderful. My other pom already has a pretty soft coat, but the shea and coconut treatment they used on her (and my other one) was also amazing. Steve and Kaleigh are extremely knowledgeable about dogs and I'm going to go ahead and say they are both dog whisperers! They have excellent prices and did a pretty quick job (about 2 hours) to bath both my dogs. I really feel like I got my money's worth. Other groomers have taken as long as 5 hours to do them both and often cut their nails too short or cut their manes too short. Looking forward to when they begin selling pet products and pet food. So grateful this plate is steps away from my front door. Zara looked so good that Ozzie had to hump her afterwards! read more

I don't have enough good things to say about this place! My pup Merlin, let's just say, is not the easiest when it comes to grooming. He's a 70 pound Shepard mix with major separation anxiety. We've tried Petsmart 3 times and it's always been a bad experience for both him and me. He was literally kicked out once because he was so anxious and they couldn't finish. Messy Mutt was recommended because its known as being more understanding for difficult dogs. They were even greater than I expected! They were so patient with Merlin and didn't make me feel like a bad mom for his anxiety. And! He looks amazing!! By far the best cut he's gotten. I moved to Long Beach in March '20 right when the pandemic started and there was only one groomer open in the area and my dog was terrified of them. I started searching for a mobile groomer and I found Kaleigh on Yelp, I contacted her because of her great reviews. I have a 100 lb cane corso that hates water and is a crybaby lol. My dog used to dread her biweekly shower and would try to run away from the groomers. Now when she sees Kaleigh or her boyfriend she jumps out of the car and runs to them excited for her shower! She loves them so I know they treat her amazing and make it as pleasant as they can for her. Recently poor Kaleigh broke her leg and isn't able to do mobile grooming temporarily but I'm still driving to her in bellflower because I refuse to take my dog anywhere else. I love love love Messy Mutt! I love the owners Steve and Kayleigh (might be misspelled) lol they are seriously the best! I always bring my kids here. (My dogs) they know and remember them perfectly every time I call. I have three dogs and each of them get crazy amounts of love from them. My babies always love going to the groomer a and I feel like they actually have a really great bond with the groomers as well. Always loving and playful. They always let me know when they can squeeze me in for all my dogs. Even if it's last minute, sometimes they take me in as a regular customer. I highly recommend them! They always let me know if they find anything wrong with my babies and give me options on how to take care of it. Which I always appreciate. Letting me know if I should take them to the vet or if they need special shampoo. Baby, Million, and Gold love Messy Mutt as I do. My baby is a stinky lil beagle and IDK how they do it, but when they're done with her she stays smelling fresh for so long!
