I had such a bad experience a few months ago at a large chain grooming store that I looked on Yelp to find someone with good reviews. I am glad I came across Messy Mutts (Kaleigh). Her and her husband have a nice, sanitary, and modified mobile trailer that is perfect for the service they provide. They have a seating area where you're allowed to be by your fur-baby, so I got to be there from beginning to end, which relieved both of us from anxiety. My puppy hates baths and grooming, but Kaleigh has a way with her animals and knows what to do to relax them as much as possible. I did not have good expectations on how my pup would behave with her since he whines, barks, and cries at every bath I give him, and was pleased to see that he wasn't as nervous as he's been in the past. I believe that had to do with the care and gentleness Kaleigh handled him. Her trailer didn't fit on my street which wasn't the end of the world, I met up with them a few blocks away, and they also set up at the dog beach I believe. I am recommending this service and hope to be a client for a long time. Thanks guys.

I came across Messy Mutt on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Kaleigh responded almost immediately and scheduled me in right away. Kaleigh explained everything that was going to be done beforehand and set my mind at ease. I also love how she said she would play with Luna and get to know her before starting the grooming. Kaleigh updated me during the process and when I picked up Luna two hours later I was amazed. She smelled great and looked great. I could not be more happy with the results. So much care and detail at an affordable price! Kaleigh has turned me into a loyal client! Can't wait for her next groom :)
Best groomer experience I've EVER had! I was very hesitate to take my cat (Max) to a groomer due to how traumatizing it could be. But all my worries were eased the minute we walked in! Their space is open and welcoming. Steven and Kaleigh let us see the whole process and thoroughly explained it all. Which made me know he was in good hands. My cat was so comfortable with them he was even cleaning himself post bath. Which is HUGE! Max is a rag doll so very hairy and he was covered in fleas before. But now he is flea free and smells SOOO good! I've never felt his fur this soft. Steve & Kaleigh truly care about your animals experience and well being. What more could an animal owner ask for! Thanks guys!

Kayleigh was so kind and understanding since our pup is very timid sometimes and sensitive skin. She updated us on how he was doing throughout the grooming. He came out so shiny and happy. Needless to say we don't need to keep searching for a groomer. ThNks so much Messy mutt!
I am SO sad that I cannot get my cat groomed by this business. I have been trying and Trying and TRYING to get an appointment. However, the communication is HORRIBLE (see pic attached). I understand 100% that this business only has a couple of employees who are fully booked. However, that is no excuse poor time management and bad customer service. Kaleigh and Steve are my heroes! These two wonderful owners, groomers and pet-lovers go above and beyond EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Ocean, my fur baby, was hit by a car on July 5, four years ago. I saw it, I stopped, and I scooped up this beautiful little girl that was left for dead. After days of flyers and advertisements, knocking on doors, I rescued her -- best thing I've ever done in my life. Ocean has PTSD, and seriously high anxiety, but Steve and Kaleigh treat her like their very own, and she loves going to the Spa. They are patient with her, and let her air dry and she doesn't enjoy the noise of the blow dryer. These two are saints. And if all that isn't enough... I've been in Denver for the last month, and Ocean desperately needed to be groomed, but Kaleigh is out because she is having a baby. Contractions and all, Kaleigh and Steve took Ocean today and groomed her for me -- I can't thank them enough as I trust my dog with no one else. Messy Mutts is where it's at Long Beach, take your animal here, you won't ever be disappointed and your animal will be loved like their own. Thank you, Kaleigh and Steve!!
Just the best! Steve and Kaleigh really work with your beloved family member to make sure they are nothing but comfortable. They just went mobile and will come to you! (Well as close as they can depending parking) My little Daisy just got groomed today, and I was able to hang out and watch them do their thing the whole time. They gave some nice advice about care between groomings and just how they get my Daisy smelling so good for so long. I could tell Daisy was happy after, she did her happy whine the whole walk home. Truly a wonderful couple, and you can tell they love what they do. Highly recommend!

To trust someone to take your beloved pets unsupervised for hours is even more difficult. So glad I found messy mutt. With the weather changing I knew she was starting to shed her coat and figured I should stop procrastinating and take her. I have grown up with dogs but we never took them to the groomers and always figured it a waste of money since I could do the same job at home right? Wow - am I an idiot. From the start of booking the appointment to the very end the Messy Mutts lived up to its name. They explained everything they were going to do, treated my Lucy with amazing kindness and patience, and even provided tips I could do at home along the way. From dropping off to picking her back up the whole process took about 3 hours and was well worth it - Lucy has never looked or felt better! We will for sure be going back next month :)

Kaleigh is the best. She texts me midway through my dog's grooming to tell my how he's doing, sometimes even sends photo updates :) My dog used to get SO stressed out going to the last 2 groomers, but he somehow still gets excited to see Kaleigh! We've theorized that even though he doesn't love being groomed, his love for her overpowers his fear! His last 2 groomers would also send him home with 1 or 2 little razor burns, which I guess isn't super uncommon when dogs get a short cut, but Kaleigh has NEVER sent him home with anything, which makes me feel like he is in such good hands. She says she just calmly talks him through everything. I really the homey environment probably helps calm his nerves as well. I'm so grateful we found Messy Mutts! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a patient, kind, loving, and super talented groomer! read more

I've definitely found my new groomer! Brought my 5 month only puppy & I got him back so clean & smelling so fresh with his nails perfectly trimmed! I will be making more appointments with Kaleigh! read more

Picked up my Roxie Maria a few days ago and she still looking as gorgeous as the day she got back. This place is further out from my house, but I love the care they put into the dogs that come in, so I keep coming back. (2x) Besides being generally busy this place has no flaws. You'll probably have to wait a week or two for them to be able to see your pupper or kitty because of such high demand so be wary. I paid $50 for a hair cut on a maltipoo; I'm not certain how much bigger dogs will cost though, so I'd recommend you call in to ask! Overall I'd recommend this place to any of my fellow dog enthusiast. read more

We were walking our dog and saw this place. The owner was so cool so later we brought our german shepherd and our teacup Maltese to be groomed. They did an amazing job. I will always go back to them. They are super cool and great to my babies. My Maltese looks ADORABLE!!! She's never looked better! Thank you so much. I completely recommend them to any one. read more

My pitbull Dominic has hated grooming for years! It's because most groomers take a look at his size and the fact that he's a pitbull become nervous and scared of him so his grooming is always rushed and sloppy. Personally I generally feel ripped off after each trip. Not today!!!!!!! I took him in too messy mutt since they opened right by my store goodfellas smoke shop and not only were they super welcoming but Kayleigh went above and beyond for him. She wasn't nervous at all to work with him and he took quite the shine to her. She did a absolute fantastic job on him and he was even sneaking kisses on her arm while she washed him. I will definitely be back with my other puppies as messy mutt earned a life time client!!!! read more

This place was great! I'm from Covina but my sister is from Long Beach and recommend that I look for dog groomers around Long Beach since it's a dog friendly area. I've had nothing but bad experiences over time with dog groomers and it kept getting worse as my little pup got older. Many groomers would really half ass the work with my dog and it made me sad. But I was researching yelp to find dog groomers in Long Beach and I came across the messy mutt! I called to make an appointment for this week before 4th of July and the owner Steve and his wife kaleigh were able to fit me in last minute due to a cancellation and to accommodate my little 15 year old man. After I told Steve my experiences with other dog groomers he clearly explained to me what their dog grooming service offers! I was very happy that he was very thorough about what they do for grooming. He and his wife are very sweet and super professional. I was very happy when they told me they had many experiences with older dogs and they even called me to give me check ups on how my dog was doing! So sweet I've never gotten that from other dog groomers! And they are very honest about any problems your dog has! Sadly my dog has to get his glands extracted through the vet because they weren't able to due to my dog not cooperating but they handled it very well and told me everything I need to know and kept me up to date on how he was doing! I'm definitely coming here again! They are well worth the drive and the price ! You honestly will not be disappointed! I have a very happy pup! read more
The best dog groomers in town!!! I found Steve & Kaleigh on yelp when they were at Pets First, but I am soo happy for them now that they have their own spot. If you're having troubles looking for the place, it's just down the street from the other venue. I feel as if I have known them forever, and that's how comfortable I feel when I walk in & they are they only people I trust with my dogs' hair. Everytime I pick up Spunky or Princess from them they come out looking like "top pooch" status! I brought my mom's toy poodle, Princess here 2 weeks ago and she was matted and dirty.. I picked her up and she looked soo adorable, like a punk princess, hahahaha!!! I have the picture to prove it.. Anyways, they are the best & I can't stress it enough. OK....these guys are the best! After a less than stellar experience at our last groomers, I did some research and decided to give Messy Mutt a try. Now, my little fluff ball is literally my child, so I will say I was a little nervous leaving him in the hands of strangers. He is a small, special needs rescue pup, so I tend to be leary whenever I leave him with anyone new. Let me tell you....I had absolutely nothing to worry about! These guys took their time and not only cleaned up my little man, but took great care making sure he was comfortable and OK through the whole process. I was referred to Steve and Kaleigh through a friend and will be forever grateful. It's very difficult to find groomers who genuinely care about you, the customer, and your fury companion. They are wonderful people! They love what they do and it really shows. I've taken my shih tzu, Lilo, here numerous times and she always looks fabulous! It's really difficult to upkeep her long hair but they always manage to detangle and soften up her hair every time! Just moved to the Long Beach (Bluff Park area) from DTLA and was looking to find a great groomer for my corgi, Wilbert...Fortunately, I was walking Wilbert in Bluff Park and came across a guy (Greg) with another corgi and asked where he took him to be groomed. He mentioned Messy Mutt, noting the great work they did with his dog who looked pretty good. I called to make an appointment and luckily they had availability that same day. It's a very nice shop and the first thing I noticed was how clean and fresh-smelling everything was. The couple, Steve and Kaleigh introduced themselves to me and Wilbert. It was a very friendly atmosphere. I explained that Wilbert was a heavy shedder (double-coat) and exactly what I wanted done. Every question I asked they had an answer, as you know we doggie lovers are very concerned about the care of our babies. When I asked about the price, I was expecting $60-75 as that is what I normally pay. When Steve said $35 ($5 first time discount) I nearly flipped, after explaining everything I wanted. He said a lot of places overcharge for things that don't take a lot of effort. Steve and Kaleigh really seemed to enjoy what they do and that is always nice when leaving your baby in someone else's hands. I got a call back within the estimated time and when I returned to pick up Wilbert I was pleasantly surprised. He looked amazing. His coat was so soft with no shedding (if you have a corgi, you know exactly what I mean). I was so tickled when Steve said that Wilbert nodded off during his bath soak. Again, was really impressed with these guys and they were even nice enough to recommend a local vet upon request. Wilbert will definitely be back! Thanks Guys :-) read more

I have to say, this was my very first time going to messy mutt and it was a great experience for me and my Puppy RockWell" "Rocky". He just loved going for his very first grooming . He really did look like a messy mutt, no lie. The owner is so very nice and we were late and she still helped us.. I will be taking my lil boy back again. They took their time and it really shows...I came all the way from the South Bay Area. Yelpers keep it up with the good reviews. You guys are way I came so far and I was not disappointed.. read more

What a great place to get your dog groomed. I have been to other places before and they charged an arm and a leg for a haircut and it turned me off to the idea of getting my dog groomed regularly. Messy mutt to the rescue! I noticed all the great reviews here and decided to go there. The owners are very nice and you can tell they love what they do. They have great communication and their prices were perfect. I have now been there twice and my pup (Sydney) love it and he always looks so handsome when they finish with him. Looking to get your dog groomed? Go here, unless you like sub par or overpriced service. These guys are the best. read more

Sometimes a guy needs a little extra sizzle! Kaliegh does an amazing job with Baxter, whether it his classic cut or a more free-spirited summer look. I have a Shih-tzu/Bichon Frise mix little pup who has been going to Steve and Kaleigh for the past two years. They do a fantastic job with my Sofie girl and always listen to my requests on how I like her groomed. I've never been disappointed! I highly recommend you stop in and check out their new place! Super clean and great pricing! For my baby it's normally $45 but was $40 today for my first visit at their new place. It was a neighborhood feel once I walked in to pick her up as I saw a few of the dogs we normally run into on our daily walks getting pampered at Messy Mutt. Your dogs (and cats!) will love it here so what are you waiting for?!! read more

Five stars well worth it. I was looking up reviews for a groomer for a while and almost went to a difference place near by, but everyone say the two groomers everyone visited (Steve and Kaleigh) were no longer there. Then I stumbled on Messy Mutt only to find out those two owned this one! Gave them a call and Steve was so informative on the phone. Very upfront with pricing which is SUPER reasonable by the way. It's super near by as well, so my pup and I walked over after we made an appointment. Upon arriving Steve was so cool and super friendly. Trying to make my puppy feel as comfortable as possible right off the bat. I told him it was both our first time at a groomer so he actually let me stay and watch what he does to the animals. So awesome. We got to talking about their old store, it's unfortunate what happened to them, but I'm glad they were able to move on and open their own shop. You can tell so much that Steve loves what he does and to my surprise made my puppy so comfortable because he hates baths. Loved the cologne that was sprayed on Bruno as well. He smelled so handsome for days! I DEFINITELY recommend this place for your animals. I will always come back here. read more

I brought my 20 LB KITTY to be groomed by Steve and Kay, and I could not be happier! They made the entire experience wonderful. I had a lot of anxiety, my kitty had never been groomed before, and they put my fears COMPLETELY to rest. I was walked through the whole process and even got to see him be bathed! My kitty was beyond relaxed and happy during the groom and also when I brought him home. Of course he had to give himself his own kitty bath when we returned home Please please bring your animals, cats and dogs, here to be groomed! They will take amazing care of you and your fur baby. This place is awesome!!! I've taken my dog here twice already! I currently have a long hair chihuahua that's been living out in the backyard for the past year or so, so you can only imagine how dirty she was! I brought her here to be bathed and groomed for a steal at $25! I've gone to other groomers where I've been charged $30-40 on average. The workers are so welcoming and knowledgeable so you feel like you have no worries leaving your pet with them. What really blew me out of the water about them was when I picked up my pup after a good cleaning, she got too excited and missed the jump from the sidewalk to my car and ended up falling into the dirty muddy sewer water. I took her back inside and expecting to have to pay for another wash but they cleaned her up with no hesitation and free of charge! They're awesome! Oh and btw they hooked her up with a little red airbrush design when I picked her up the second time :) read more

I love messy mutts! I have been taking my three dogs to them for awhile and I would never go anywhere else. The owners are soooo sweet and compassionate and also very knowledgable about all the different dog breeds. They take the time to make your pets comfortable with them which is awesome! On top of the amazing work they do, their prices are great as well. My dogs are a Pomeranian, chihuahua, and chihuahua poodle mix. The chihuahua is short haired and easy to work with; the chi-poo has nice hair that just gets buzzed off. The Pom is a piece of work since he has very dry, corse hair and skin. These guys do such an amazing job on him and do whatever they can to hydrate his hair. For anyone who is a Pom owner, this is the place to take you dog! read more
