I've been looking for somewhere nearby to get a proper macaron (as opposed to a hard, macaron shaped cookie without the traditional texture) at a reasonable price point. This definitely met those criteria, so of course we tried a flower shaped macaron. It had the perfect, delicate cookie and that classic, light almondy flavor. We also had a brownie batter cookie, which was delicious and reminds me of something I would have saved on Pinterest a decade ago but never gotten around to making, much less as well as they do. Though there was a line inside, we were served super quickly by friendly staff, and found a nice seat outside in the sun. They also had abundant indoor seating. My combination of choice is cake batter fro-yo with pie cherries, Oreos, and cookie dough. They layer the toppings in, so it's not just piled up on top -- you get ice cream, toppings, more ice cream, more toppings, and a little dollop of ice cream artfully extruded right on top. And as a bonus, a note on the cookie dough: it isn't those little dry balls of dough you normally see at the self-serve fro-yo bars. It is the Pillsbury "eat or bake" (safe to eat raw) cookie dough that comes in the tub. They pull a giant tub out from under the counter and serve you a very generous scoop of it. The owner shared that the idea started because he couldn't find cheesecake around the Triad that he really loved, so he started baking his own. After making them for friends and hearing constant encouragement, he decided to turn it into a business. It's always interesting hearing how local businesses get started, and this one felt very organic and community driven. He's even appeared on Food Network shows like Holiday Baking Championship and Chopped, which has helped bring visitors from out of state to High Point just to try the cheesecake. Overall it was a great visit, and it was nice learning more about how the business began. I love seeing the high point mural on the wall it really added to the ambiance!

We had no idea that there almonds in the Twisted Coffee until my husband took his first bite and saw nuts. We asked the staff and she said there were almonds in it. He's severely allergic to tree nuts, so this could've been a serious medical event. Thankfully he caught it in time, and the girl working gave us a water and a new custard without question. Still a fan of Whit's but I'll be careful to ask about ingredients next time.
