I recently rediscovered the joys of a Meshuggah bagel on a Saturday morning while walking around downtown. Like the sister store on 39th Street, this Meshuggah location is tiny but full of tons of bagels. There are a couple of small tables, but it's not the place to bring a large group of friends. They have tons of bagel flavors to choose from, both savory and sweet. I love their selection of shmear, especially the seasonal or special flavors. Be patient because there is sometimes a line, and there's usually only like 2 employees behind the small counter. It's worth it for the warm toasted fresh bagel covered in shmear. read more

I came in at noon on a Saturday morning. Ordered a bagel that was not what I expected. I asked if they could just warm it up or something. I even tipped nicely. The girl making the bagels was very rude and unhelpful, even snapping at me. I do not recommend this place. They need customer service training. Edit: I sat down for awhile and the girl from the counter eventually walked over and said the owner said to give me a warm bagel and to just transfer my cream cheese over. read more

Breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. Just bagels...no breakfast 'sandwiches'. They do have bagel deli meat sandwiches. Bagels are large, soft, and tasty. $2.75 (or more) for any topping...butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, etc. upside is they really slather it on! Service was good. The bagels are outstanding. Good chew to them and a decent amount of cream cheese. I usually prefer an egg sandwich, but they don't have eggs. Let me start with: I would recommend it and would come back. Go try this place! It's got a great chance of making it. Following are my observations and persnickety feedback. First off, the bagels were wonderful along with their selection of schmears. Some feedback: We were not asked if we would like them toasted...not sure if it's an option. If it is not an option, they need to move forward with that. Additionally, none of the bagel types are labeled in the case, so the customer has no idea what they are looking at other than an assortment of bagels. The staff could be more personable as an extension of the comfortable, casual atmosphere. They were not rude, just not overly helpful either. Maybe they are new to service and a bit shy. Ambiance... Wonderful! Great job to whoever designed this place! My background and formal training are in interior design, fine arts, branding, and graphic design. This place it on the right track in this department. Antique showcases, flow blue china on the walls along with shaker style furniture and farm themed oil paintings. A perfect meld of classic european style and transitional farmhouse decor. The color scheme is simple, neutral, and clean with natural woods, vibrant royal blues, blacks, and browns. Feedback: Uniforms need some work. Tiedyed T-shirts are a huge miss. Maybe black, flow blue, or white tshirts with buff or natural colored full aprons with their logo would be a nice way to tailor the brand further. read more

If you're looking for a bagel to rival the big boys over in NYC this is your best bet in KC! Bright pleasant space with their fresh offerings of the day on display right as you approach the counter. I had a sandwich bagel and a chocolate chip with strawberry. Both were so delicious I came back the next day and got the same thing LOL! The bagels here are pretty good! I've come here twice now. The salted bagel was a bit too salty, and you would have to scrape some of the salt off. The everything bagel is perfectly seasoned. Overall, the bagels have a nice chew. The cream cheese is also really good here! We got the green onion cream cheese and it had plenty of green onion in there. Best bagels in KC, hands down. Love putting in a pick up order here, they're always ready on time, consistently delicious, and you're greeted with a smile upon pick up. My go-to orders include, a lightly toasted everything bagel with scallion schmear, or plain bagel with salty lox, and the works (tomato, onion, capers). So good! After the chiefs parade, it was so hard to find a place for lunch. I went around the corner from Power and light, and saw Meshuggah with no line! It's decorated super nice inside, like a little cafe. I definitely liked the vibe in there. The owners were working and they were super nice to us and our kids. We ordered two sandwiches- one Turkey and the other I think roast beef? And then just a plain chiefs bagel. Prices seemed pretty reasonable as well. read more

Great bagel place near a lot of offices! The staff was not necessarily the friendliest (granted the restaurant looked empty) but they made the bagel pretty quickly. There is also plenty of seating available and the restaurant had a very homey/mom and pop vibe. The bagel was good, though I was very surprised it wasn't toasted. A local place that truly cares about their community - I sat and watched on a few mornings during our visit to Kansas City as the staff treated our houseless neighbors with compassion, care, and dignity while also providing excellent customer service to everyone who came through the door. The bagels are excellent. Everyone seems to have an opinion on the One True Bagel but whatever these are, I'll take them. I was sad we had to leave those behind in Kansas City. The tables are odd - a mix of what appears to be antique-adjacent furnishings and modern booths. It appears to be designed so that you might strike up conversations with others. So, so delicious. Admittedly, I'm not a bagel connoisseur but it is one of the best bagels I've had. I ate one for lunch yesterday but I woke up craving another this morning. The shop is small and cozy. The staff was polite enough and the bagels came out fast. The in-house schmear that I tried (garlic and herb) was delicious; very pungent on the garlic so heads up. My husband loves Onion bagels, not my choice but I'm glad they are good for him. I tried a mix of Cinnamon Raisin, Chocolate chip and the Biali. The Biali is my new fave. This spot is right down the street from my sister's apartment, so I have been here quite frequently. I will start by saying the bagels are delicious and so are the different schmears. They definitely don't skimp on loading up the cream cheese! If you would like your bagel toasted, you will need to ask; they will not ask you. That being said, we asked for ours toasted and it was still pretty chewy - may ask for it extra toasted? I will say that we refer to this as the "crabby bagel place." I don't know what happened. I usually love Meshuggah Bagels, but today was the exception. I arrived around 11:00 and it was busier than I expected. No big deal. When I placed my order, the person who took the order appeared confused and overwhelmed. I had to repeat my order 3 times to them. Once they took my order I waited 10-15 minutes to get my bagel. No big deal, I knew they were busy. I got my order to go, but I should have looked before I left. I ordered an everything bagel with rosemary cream cheese, smoked salmon and added tomato's, onion and capers. When I got home, I realized they forgot to add the capers, onions and tomatoes. Even though I repeated my order 3 times and paid extra for the veg. They also added veggie cream cheese and not rosemary. So frustrating.
