This is a pick and go spot, there is no seating, but find a park to take your snacks and ENJOY!! The blueberry croissant was hands down the best pastry I've had in the year 2026. The pastry of the month was the spam musabi croissant which was a delightful combo of savory and sweet. Loved the strawberry mochi donut hole as well-- just delicious!!

We were welcomed in with the very warm service and friendly customer service .As I looked at the case to make my selection, they have specialty and unique pastries one of their signatures is Mochi donuts with rotating monthly flavors I got the pear berry, blackberry, butterscotch, lemon meringue. My favorite pastries are croissants and they have biscuit and gravy croissant ,ham and gruyere croissant , a croissant with a fried spam slice, apricot pistachio puff, and their croissants are on monthly rotating flavors. I ate my chocolate croissant and I must say it was the best croissant I have ever had so flaky and soft packed with lots of filling, so go give them a try and remember it is a first come first service because they do sell out early. Their generous cream cheese schmears (the garlic & dill and specialty options are incredible) and fresh lox sandwiches make it a must-visit local spot. The gentleman that helped us was amazing and patient. I got one bagel with sesame seeds toasted with garlic and dill cream cheese Amazing !! my only complaint is one single bagel is eight dollars but worth every penny.Parking could be rough since this location is in the middle of downtown. 100 % recommend!!

YE Gurl Says: Kansas City Just Earned Some New York Points at Meshuggah Bagels…read more Listen, I am naturally skeptical of any bagel shop outside of New York making bold claims. On their website, Meshuggah Bagels proudly declares that they've perfected their recipe to the point where "even a New Yorker would swear they were biting into a piece of home." That's a dangerous statement. As someone who has spent enough time in New York to know the difference between a bagel and a round piece of bread with aspirations, I approached with caution. What I needed was simple: a quick breakfast bite that wasn't going to turn into a full sit-down affair. Then I walked in and saw the menu. The first sign of hope? Bialys. Not many places outside New York even bother. Add smoked salmon options, pastrami nova, and a cooler stocked with old-school Dr. Brown's sodas, and suddenly my skepticism started to soften. So naturally, I ordered accordingly. And I have to admit...They got me. The bagel had the right structure. It was fresh and sturdy enough to support a generous schmear and mountain of salmon without collapsing into a soggy mess halfway through. The salmon itself was abundant. Not one of those sad situations where you're hunting through cream cheese trying to locate the seafood. Every bite delivered. And paired with a Dr. Brown's? For a brief moment, I was transported back to Brooklyn. Not fully thought. Let's not get carried away. But enough to appreciate what they were trying to accomplish. The place was absolutely packed, which is usually a good sign. We were fortunate to find a spot to sit down and enjoy everything before heading back out. YE Gurl Insight: Regional food nostalgia is hard to recreate. Most places chase authenticity through marketing. The better ones focus on execution. Meshuggah Bagels seems to understand that difference. Final Take: Fresh bagels with proper texture Excellent smoked salmon portions Bialys on the menu (a major point in their favor) Classic deli-shop feel Worth the downtown stop YE Gurl Says: If you're in Kansas City and craving a bagel experience that comes surprisingly close to scratching that New York itch, make the stop. Will it replace your favorite neighborhood bagel shop in Brooklyn? No. Will it make you forget you're in Kansas City for a few bites? Surprisingly, yes.

Even when they are busy as heck with a line waiting to place orders the counter staff have been friendly and helpful. The bagels are always fresh and the coffee is hot and flavorful. I wholeheartedly recommend this place, despite my experience today. The counter was manned today by a male who didn't seem to be enjoying his work. Maybe just a bad day. I ordered a nova lox and cream cheese bialy, toasted twice, my usual. He asked if I wanted it loaded I said yes and then said no tomato. When I got my sandwich there was no onion or capers as well as no tomato. When I went to the counter to ask for capers and onion I was told they didn't charge me for it so they'd have to charge me (I said that was fine). The bearded man that was helping me said he'd bring them out to the table, I'd have to put them on the sandwich myself. After 5 minutes (no customers being served) I went back to the counter and inquired and the other male gave them to me. When I opened the sandwich to put them in, I saw that the bialy was warmed, not toasted twice as requested. They might both be new employees, but the usual warmth and helpfulness of the counter staff was definitely lacking.

My matcha of the day was a Salted Caramel Matcha with Salted Cold Foam, and my boyfriend ordered the Toasty Coast Coconut Cinnamon Latte. Once again, as someone who doesn't typically drink coffee, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed his latte. This seasonal drink (must try for the coffee lovers) is bold and flavorful, with sweet notes of toasted marshmallow and a hint of coconut that balances it out so perfectly. My matcha was smooth and subtle, but the added salted caramel gave it a punch of flavor that made it so tasty. Since we do not eat much, we also shared the Spicy Hawaiian Honey Pizza Bagel, with one half topped with pepperoni and the other just cheese. The portion was more than enough for the both of us, as we both only ate half of or halved bagel, but every bite was beyond delicious, packed with sweet and spicy flavors throughout! Situated in the base of a beautiful brick building, Messenger Coffee is a wide open, airy, bright and industrial space featuring all the classic coffees, a great assortment of house curated drinks, along with a solid selection of homemade pastries and other foods plus a good variety of novelties, bulk coffees and a few other items. The space is laid out well with the ordering counter and retail on one side and seating on the other, but it doesn't stop there...their open air industrial kitchen where all the goods are house made takes up over half the space, and is surrounded by barstools that give you a front row seat! While I loved the space, the coffee I got is easily one of the best coffees I have had anywhere...like, no joke! I went with the seasonal Iced KC Sweet Smoked Honeybear and it was absolutely delightful! Balanced, sweet, a tad smoky and tasted like the nostalgia of a honey graham cracker! Perfection. Service was great as well. The barista helped me out with selection, shared details of the drinks and made it a good interaction. Once I tasted the coffee, I knew it was a special spot, so I got back in line and grabbed a koozie so I'd remember far beyond the coffee! Overall, top tier coffee shop that I highly recommend!
