Green unsanitary pool
J P.

The main reason we booked to camp was because of the heated pool and spa. The spa was completely out of order. We were not alerted of this before our stay because we would've canceled the reservation. The pool was extremely gross, completely green and upkept. (See attached photo.) I'm not sure why this is acceptable. We did not feel it was safe or even sanitary to swim. We had a very disappointed kid....and parents. Again, this was one of the main reasons we came. The pool was finally drained yesterday...again unavailable to use. The showers turn quite cold anytime someone flushes the toilet or showers at the same time. This was irritating, but especially when you have a small child screaming every time it happened. Overall, we were disappointed with our experience. It was mostly due to the spa and pool being unavailable. The staff was overall very friendly and helpful. So we appreciated that. I emailed the company, and they just said that they were working on getting the pool up and running and "we do not do refunds." Terrible customer service.

KOA who yelled at us circling our campsite
Michele D.

As a lifelong tent camper we are fortunate to get our first RV. We were assigned to spot 57 and our RV could not auto-level there. We called the emergency number for permission to move across the way to an empty spot (no response from the night host at all). About 2:00 am we gave up on the night host, moved, leveled and went to sleep. All of our contracts and the KOA space number was in our window. The next morning, we were awakened by a laugh knock. A male KOA employee in a yellow shirt, white beard and straw hat yelled at me, "go up front and register." I tried to explain the night before, he cut me off. I asked if I could get my registration and contract from the window of the RV and he said "your paperwork means nothing to me, just go up front NOW and register." I could not get another word out before he put his hand up in my face said and said "lady, go to the front office and register." He then kept circling our campsite with his golf cart as we packed up. So short on sleep, we packed up three hours before our registration time was up, no breakfast and no shower, ran to the front office. Of course, by the time I got to the front office, they had heard about what happened from another employee and there was a lady there apologizing all over the place and saying the actions of their employee was wrong and inappropriate. She said in their defense, the night host should have called us back in the night (that's her job) and she should have called or left a note for them that we had moved across the way. (The park was about half full, tons of open spots). So one KOA employee jostles us out of our sleep, belittles and disrespects us, the KOA night host they say is new to the job and made a number of mistakes including never giving the morning crew a heads up regarding the night before. So KOA culture is: (1) do not talk to your paying customers, just yell at them and belittle them and (2) when you on board night hosts, you do not adequately train them in customer service. Joined KOA top membership, first RV, first road trip, first stop on the road trip and this was our first experience with KOA culture.

Couple of my gnomes taking pic by someone's RV with their gnome.

Just left here this morning. We were only there two nights. Didn't get pics except of my gnomes meeting another gnome We did use laundry. The bigger dryer works good and fast. Two smaller ones don't waste your time! They sucked. Looked like lots of activities were happening. Pizza party last night. Kids/Teens were having a wonderful time at the activities center both nights we were here. Very family friendly. About all I can tell you about it. I would stay here again!

Obscene flag.

Stayed here while visiting in-laws in Mesa. Closest we could get that allowed children (Mesa is very much 55+) Figured we can't go wrong with a KOA with kids. That was a mistake. Every morning I had to look at this and explain to my kids the difference between political support and profanity. When I emailed management I was told they have a right to support the president. The question wasn't politics it was display of obscene language. I am far from a prude but didn't need it shoved in our face everyday. Might be out last stay at a KOA.

Lost Dutchman State Park - Love seeing cairn markers

Lost Dutchman State Park

I don't do a good job keeping track of all the hikes I complete (unlike other friends I know who…read moredocument everything), so for the beginning of 2026, I'm going to try to do a better job of documentation. I love the Lost Dutchman and have been here several times and it never gets old and each time I come, I am still so awestruck by the beauty of this mountain. Years ago, I completed Flatiron with my then partner and didnt know that it was rated a very difficult hike. I enjoyed it, got a really nice work out and liked the scramble up to the top! I just remember it was quite windy at the top but spectacular views. Dogs are allowed on Flatiron, but don't do that to your pup, its a pretty gnarly hike, let your puppy rest honestly as I saw so many doggies struggling. Tonight, I came just for a leisurely stroll right before sunset and also hoping to catch the first almost full moon of 2026. I love nature and being outdoors and my favorite way to spend time. Park entrance was packed tonight and the fee was $10. There is a small visitor center with souvenirs, guides, some snacks, bathrooms and last minute hiking needs. I think you can also camp here, check on their website. I parked in the Cholla day use lot and did part of the Treasure Loop and hiked for about 3 miles slowly, and spent about 2+ hours in the park. My goal tonight wasn't really to hike strenously but more to get a glimpse of the sunset and the beautiful 2026 Wolf Moon. All my goals were accomplished. Park is well maintained. I used the bathroom and it was very clean and a nice park bathroom. Plenty of covered picnic tables too. Park closed at 8pm tonight (winter). There are all different level trails here and the rangers here are super nice and helpful. Ask them any questions and they are happy to help. There are also many kinds of free maps available in the visitor center. I had a MTB map, a hiking trail map, a birding map, a native plant map! I am all mapped up! If you come and do a hike, wear sturdy hiking shoes, wear sunscreen, head covering, bug spray (there were quite a lot of mosquitoes when I hiked tonight which annoyed the heck out of me as I left my bug spray at home), lots of water, some snacks, and also headlamps (I hiked back down after sunset and the headlamp helped a lot). One of the best AZ state parks, the views are amazing (so many couples here getting their photos professionally taken), definitely check it out.

Took a cruise through the park on our way back from Canyon Lake & Tortilla Flat. Beautiful place to…read morecatch the sunset as well.

Sunrise RV Resort - Roberts Resorts

My husband and I are SO DISAPPOINTED with our 5 month stay at Sunrise RV Resort in Apache Junction,…read moreArizona - and especially with Roberts Resorts!! First off, we arive there in November 2024, the gal in the office told us it was cheaper to pay all in one lump sum for the year - since it was our plan to be there for a year. The same office gal offered us 3 spots to choose from, 2 spots up against a busy street and 1 other spot bumped right next to the fence on Broadway. We made the mistake of taking number 7 against Broadway and the noise from cars racing up and down the street all hours of the day and night, the firetrucks, police cars and ambulances going by constantly, made it si miserable for us! We wore earplugs at night, but they did not help! Later after complaining to the office, we were told by a different office person that because we paid $6,600 up-front, we should have had our pick of any empty spot in the park that wasn't reserved - and there were ALOT of other spots. We couldn't stand the noise any longer and decided to look into buying a park model at Roberts Resorts - we found one we liked and the Realtor never got back with us. We ended up buying a park model in another park. Since we had only been at Sunrise for 2 months we had to fill out paperwork to request we get at least some of our money back. The Roberts Resorts corporation manager called us and said, "No Way," that we were getting any of our money back! We were forced to stay in that noisy spot for 5 months to at least make up for a little of the money we payed for the spot and left Sunrise on April 8th - which couldn't have come soon enough for us!!! We could not even enjoy sitting outside at all because of that traffic noise! We had a horrible experience there all the way around! Our small pet dog was also attacked 3 seperate times by the same unleashed dog! Shame on Roberts Resort Company - they own 13 resorts and couldn't even give us a little bit of our money back, when they were clearly in the wrong!!

Everyone we met were easy to get along with. Rachael and crew do a very good job to take care of the details in the main office. You are provided with some and asked to call in prior to your arrival. We tried that only to get a message that the office was closed over the weekend. Our reservations started on the weekend. We did not know there was paperwork to pick up outside the office. We did not know there was a key to pick up for the doggie gate. Our site was pre-assigned about the farthest it could be in the pet area so it was quite a walk getting there to discover a key was required to get through the gate. We did not see any staff over the weekend and saw our only one driving a cart as we were leaving. Reviews comment on how unfriendly people were. We did not find that. We waved, they waved. We talked to a few we saw. It was past main season. It always takes a bit to get to know people no matter where you are. We loved the pool and hot tub. Would have loved shuffleboard but couldn't locate all the necessary equipment.
