Super friendly staff. The back issue section was neat and organized. Very clean store with good music too!

Many, many, many years ago I lived in Connecticut and would take trips just to hit up Newbury…read moreComics location through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine and make a little trip of it. Well, it's 2026 and my parents currently live in Maine so I decided to head to Manchester when I was visiting to check this location out. It's always nice to see a Newbury store inside of a plaza with the cool logo and fun window displays, and this one had plenty of cool stuff in the windows. The store itself is pretty darn big, especially compared to the crappy new one in Quincy Market in Boston. The story has tons of toys, records, movies, and boxed slop that's been popular these last 2 years. I would say, compared to local competitors Bull Moose and Arizona chain Zia Records, Newbury just doesn't hold a candle to these stores anymore. The movie section here is small, the record section isn't very big, I'm not even sure they have video games anymore, and there's so much mystery box and Funko slop that's half the store isn't even worth checking out. I will give credit to the comic section for having a fairly good amount of single issues as well as trades and the t-shirt selection was pretty big as well. Overall, Newbury Comics is not nearly as cool as it used to be, but it's still a solid spot if you live in the area for whatever nerd culture things you want to pickup. I come to New Hampshire roughly once a year, so I'm sure I'll poke my head back in and hopefully they'll have some Criterion's next time.

I am not a huge fan of the location. There are by a four way lane interestion of parking areas. The smell, I will never get over but it seems to be their typical smell. The prices are probably as low on CD's as you can go, in a store. Still, if you are looking for CD's you are probably a lot better off shopping online at Amazon or Ebay. On average I save about 50% online compared to Newbury's prices. The DVD prices just plain suck, in most instances you can get a movie or TV show brand new at the used DVD price. Go figure son, go figure. The t-shirt and knicknack prices are, likewise, ridic, there is store CD selection in my opinion keeps them in business. Once people start getting hip to the lower prices online, they will fade away, like BestBuy has done with their CD's.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with GameStop's handling of my Pokémon Prismatic…read moreEvolutions Poster Collection pre-order. Back in early May, I pre-ordered two copies for $40 each using my Pro membership. About a week later, I decided to pre-order two more--the maximum allowed. By then, the price had increased to $45 each, which I accepted without complaint. The original release date was May 22nd. I went to the midnight release only to find out the product had been delayed until June 6th. While I was there, I purchased two ETBs for $90 each. but didn't even receive the advertised store promo card. When June 6 arrived, the product was delayed again, this time until July 1st. I made multiple trips to the store only to be told it had been pushed back again. I left for vacation on July 1st before the shipment arrived, still. On July 2nd, I called the store after they confirmed my pre-order was available on July 3rd. I explained that I was out of town and would pick it up when I returned. At no point during that phone call--or during any of my previous visits--did anyone mention there was a 48-hour pickup deadline or that I would be charged a higher price if I couldn't make it in immediately. If told this, I had friends/family that could have easily secured my order. When I finally returned to the store, I was told I had to pay the difference between my fully paid pre-order price and the current price. The store was now charging $60 each, meaning they expected me to pay an additional $18 per copy, despite the delay being entirely outside of my control and despite never informing me of this policy. An employee named Matt called the manager and spoke with them for about 10 minutes, but the manager refused to honor the price I had already paid. At that point, I canceled every pre-order I had with GameStop. To make matters worse, the current market price on TCGPlayer, local card shops, and card shows is around $41 per box, yet GameStop wanted $60. This wasn't just about the money--it was about poor communication and customer service. After multiple delays, multiple trips to the store, and a phone call where I specifically explained my situation, I expected GameStop to stand behind a fully paid pre-order. Instead, I was treated like the inconvenience was my fault. I will never buy anything from GameStop again.
