We came here for a weekend trip and quickly realized that if you're in the area, there are not too many places to choose from. At the time of deciding to go here, I wasn't in the mood for Chinese but I definitely didn't want to do pizza or burgers which seem to be the more popular options in the area. Given the times that we are in and the fact that we had a dog, we decided to eat outside. Being less than 40 degrees outside (at 6 pm), it wasn't too bad since there was a heater next to our table. The service here was great. I absolutely loved their welcoming touch from the moment in step in from the sidewalk. They were also very accomodating for my dog and was quick to bring him water. I told the server that I wanted a large sweet and sour soup and she was kind enough to know that a large was way too big of a serving-size for one person. She suggested the medium. She's amazing! Even the medium more than plenty for me. I wish I would have ordered the small because after eating the contents of the soup, the bowl was still about 60% full. The food was very tasty and satisfying on a cold winter day. Overall I'd give the food a 4/5 and the service a 5/5. If I'm back in the area, I'd definitely come by again. read more

Came for dinner around 6:30 on Saturday after a day of hiking. We got there just in time for the sun to go down so it wasn't beaming in our faces for lunch through the window. And the restaurant quickly began filling up so new people had to wait for tables. We ordered the beef and vegetables and the orange chicken. Both were great, with the orange chicken with such good flavor and crispness and the beef with a great variety of veggies. They also came with steamed rice. Our server had also brought us out a complimentary soup of our choice while we waited for our food and we chose the wonton soup which had great ginger flavor and was delish. For options in town, this was a great spot. Very friendly staff too! read more

All the food was pretty terrible and expensive. Sweet and sour chicken was super heavily breaded and dry. Sweet and sour sauce tasted cheap and store bought. Chicken wings were SO dry and small. Lo mein was also flavorless and dry... the egg flour soup was just okay. And so expensive.. a small soup, chicken wing appetizer and 2 normal entrees was over $70. I have to say it....I am Asian and found the food to be so delicious! First off, the servers and anyone that worked here were so welcoming and kind. Definitely nice to kick off a meal this way. Thank you! Next up, I did take out so usually I would expect food to not be as great but flavors should still be delicious. The Shrimp fried rice was pretty good, although I felt like it could use a bit more seasoning but the shrimp was juicy. Next I had the Ma Po tofu. If you like spice and tofu, get it! The favors were intense and somehow I ended up eating almost the entire dish. It paired so nicely with the black bean sauce and the chopped veggies they had in this dish. Lastly, had the egg drop soup and boy this was good! It was just so comforting after a long day and it had lots of flavor too it. It wasn't overly salty but it was a cup of warmth for the belly! Great food! I'm from Hawaii and know a thing or two about Chinese food. I'd put this up against anything I have back home. It was solid, the vegetables were very fresh, and the seasoning was excellent. It's a really nice family running this restaurant as well. I got to talk to the dad for a little bit, and he was a kind gentleman. I got my food to go and ate it up at Tuttle Creek campground. Awesome food to match the awesome views. read more

The staff here are incredibly friendly without being invasive in the restaurant. The food is so good too. I ordered the kung pao chicken which comes with steamed rice and a Sapporro beer. Make sure you're prepared to order take out or call for reservations as they get very busy. Merry Go Round was not just the best Chinese restaurant in Lone Pine, but it's one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to, period. Located on Main Street, you will not be able to miss it. The exterior of the restaurant is festively decorated with neon signs and inside is just as whimsical with a carousel in the middle of the restaurant. We sat in the outdoor patio and asked them to power on the heat lamps. The menu was large, but the signature dishes included seafood dishes that our party wanted to share. The standout was the jalapeño scallops. They were coated and fried before it was cooked in the spicy sauce. While we enjoyed everything from the fried rice to the asparagus, we all agreed that the scallops blew everything out of the water. It's a dish that haunts me to this day. read more

I was so happy to hear this as I asked if they can ship me my wallet. I offered any which way to pay for the shipping but Dan(the owner) said he would ship it out on his dime. 2 days later I received my wallet :) I'd like to thank the owner and staff for returning my wallet and making my families experience awesome. stopped by here on the way to mammoth and the food was decently solid relative to the area, so i can see why everyone thinks it's good; however, if you were to have this restaurant in socal, there would definitely be others as good or some even better. the food hit all the asian flavors it needed to be and the chili paste was really good (it was my favorite), there was nothing lacking. apparently one of the chefs is from taiwan and the other from india, so the food is legit. the portions were quite large given they were about $20 each, but the content was very generous in terms of protein and vegetables. they constantly change your plates and they offer you a fortune cookie in the end. overall, the place was very cozy and was decorated with a lot of character. they have a very cute dog in house too! the staff were all nice and friendly, you can tell they give their all in everything they do and are genuine. i'd say if you are craving asian food and you're in the area, you should go here (coming from an asian). read more

What a great meal, both food and atmosphere! This family-run restaurant was a delight from the start. We were greeted immediately by the owner and Blue, an adorable, super sweet, and well-mannered pit bull who has his own dedicated spot in the corner of the restaurant. The food was excellent. We started with Hot and Sour Soup followed by Kung Pao Beef and Singapore Curry Noodles for our main. It was the best Hot and Sour Soup I've ever had. I preferred the Kung Pao over the Singapore Curry Noodles but both were good. Don't forget to try their in-house soy sauce. It offers another layer of flavor that you can't get with standard soy sauce. Our server was very attentive and friendly throughout dinner. Overall, left happy, full, and with leftovers for our next meal. Not sure when I'll be in the area next, but if I find myself driving through Lone Pine again, I'll definitely plan a stop. read more
