Will not be coming again and definitely did not find the front desk nice or helpful. My appointment got cancelled because of insurance reasons even though the day before I confirmed the appointment. I was never called to be told that my appointment actually got cancelled. I made a mistake with insurance but was unaware that my appointment had fully been cancelled until I showed up and was told. Very unprofessional. When speaking with the front desk person they were one of the most unhelpful representatives of a company I have ever seen. read more

I have been coming here for a few years with little problem, I'm not sure what is happening recently but the front desk staff have become rude and incompetent. I had a billing issue with my insurance and they told me they would call me the next day. They never did, but I spoke to my insurance comp. and fixed it. Then when I tried to confirm it was fixed on their end as well they became aggressive demanding I pay it now or else. The sent me a link to pay which did not work, then I paid it on THEIR website only for them to tell me they never received it. Dysfunctional practice annoyed that I need to now find a new Dr. The hygienists were good, I just don't understand the front desk staff's behavior. read more

The office customer service is terrible, I showed up for my appointment at my appointment time and my doctor stepped out with the excuse they were having issues with my insurance even though it was backed dated to the beginning of the month. And I mentioned that I had a touch of arthritis in my hands and he was kind enough to do something to give me relief in my hands. I really like the techs that perform the X-rays. They are careful with the placements of those mouth pieces that usually dig into your gums. The cleanings have been the least painful in my life. The office is brand new and sterile clean. You can watch TV in your room while you wait for the dentist. They accept many insurances and discount plans. Overall a nice environment once you get past the front desk for check in. read more

The only reason this place isn't getting 1 star is because the front desk was very nice to me, it was extremely quick and easy to speak with someone and to make an appointment. Whoever treated me and did my cleaning was an absolute nightmare. I told the dentist not to use the waterpik to clean my teeth because I'm very sensitive. No one has ever had an issue not using water to clean my teeth before. He tried it on 1 tooth and once he realized I cannot handle it bc of my sensitivity, he continued with the traditional cleaning tools. He was clearly unhappy and annoyed he couldn't use the "faster" way and proceeded to take his frustration out on my gums. I could feel him rushing and digging into my gums and ripping them making me bleed so much. When I asked him to stop so I can spit the blood out, I said it's never been this bloody or painful before. He gaslit me saying it's because I don't floss enough and theres a lot of inflammation; which is NOT TRUE. I floss every single day, use a mechanical tooth brush and have ZERO inflammation or irritation to my gums. Once I spoke up, the rest of the cleaning was pain and blood free. I made another appointment for a cleaning to give them another chance but made sure it's with a different dentist. If my next visit goes better, I will leave a glowing review so we'll have to see. read more

This is my first profoundly negative experience of a local business and my first negative review. I was compelled to share... I had a deeply disappointing experience with Dr. Tasos Katechis (owner of the practice) of Merrick Dental Care. During my visit, Dr. Katechis informed me that I had 8 cavities, and my son had 5. This seemed highly questionable, so I sought a second opinion from another reputable dentist. To my relief, the second dentist confirmed that we had NO cavities at all. This raises serious concerns about Dr. Katechis honesty and professionalism. It feels extremely unethical to suggest unnecessary treatments, especially when it involves drilling into otherwise healthy teeth. This situation not only undermines trust but also suggests a troubling motive for profit. Moreover, the experience was further shadowed by the unprofessional behavior of the front desk staff. Their rudeness and lack of attentiveness only added to the frustration of an already distressing visit. The potential for unnecessary and harmful treatments, combined with the unprofessional conduct of the staff, makes this place "to be avoided at all costs" business. read more

Had an appointment on Feb 20 paid for the sedation used for my daughter.I get a call today May 3 saying I left their practice without paying.How do you leave a business without paying maybe incompetent staff. The call was not saying there may be a mistake on their part no they said I didn't pay I produced the check which was cashed on Feb 24. I never put any reviews for any business ever in my life but I can't hold to leave a review for Merrick Dental Care. From that point I want everyone to know how horrible this clinic is, the girls are filled with attitude and unprofessionalism. They have zero respect for their patients walking in, an elderly or young. There lady who books appointment has AirPods while even talking to patients, and god knows if she even is paying attention to any of the patients, but her attitude explains a lot. She does not answer you if you need to know anything, she only replies if she has something to say to book a day. Otherwise it's like you are non existent, no eye contact, no welcome, no smile and it looks like she is definitely not interested in this job but definitely wants to make everyone else day unpleasant. Therefore, the dentist is just out of my understanding as well, bad at his job and his work. If you are late they don't let you attend the appointment, BUT if the dentist is late for even TWO hours they make us wait. How amazing and fair they are towards their patient. Anyways, I do believe there are other dentist in that office which I have met once or twice for emergency, & they where definitely very kind and better than Dr. Tassos!!! They LISTENED and VERY RESPECTFULLY acted upon my issue but in order to have appointments with those dentists ( who are actually working hard and are kind ) just remember you have to go through those front desk unprofessional ladies. Sorry and not sorry as well for writing this review, again I never write but I had to because of the amount of disrespect and failure of issues I have received with my treatments from this office. My hygienist is a Dream. She's never late. I had a 9:00 AM appointment, walked in at 8:30 AM and she's ready, pleasant and enthusiastic to begin. Are you kidding me!? .. .. This place is unprofessional and segregated if you are not their complexion they def let it be known. I would not go here if you are not one of them. I was scheduled for a 2 pm and after 15 mins im still waiting. I asked the front desk when would I be seen and than I'm told oh he is backed up. So I asked when we're you guys gonna let me know. She said we just found out 20 mins ago Well I signed in 15 mins ago why would you not let me know it's only professional. They always seem to stress promptness and no tardiness. Well I arrived on time and follow you guys request the least I could have gotten was a Courtesy update. They have no patients to relations skills. It's just an issue after an issue And im starting to believe it's only because of my skin complexion (African American) yea they still doing this blatantly in 2022. The best part of my visit was the hygienist, Natalie. She made me feel very comfortable immediately upon my arrival and was very kind and down-to-earth. First off, Natalie is hands down the BEST! This girl is absolutely amazing. I wouldn't trust any other dental hygienist.. basically If she left Merrick dental i'd have to follow her.. my teeth are extremely sensitive and Natalie knows and makes sure to use numbing gel. My teeth feel so great after every cleaning and she truly cares about her clients. Fun fact, I was running late one day and she gave up her lunch break to clean my teeth! I normally do not love the dentist, but this was such a great experience. The building is new and super clean. My dental hygienist Natalie was AMAZING. She was so nice , patient and educational. I felt like I learned more about my teeth and how to fix certain issues I've been experiencing more than I have ever had in my 33 years of going to the dentist. They have so much attitude and they went out out their way to call my insurance and cancel my appointment just because I asked if I can get a second cleaning appointment in December. They can't do math. It's October 8th. I requested second appointment last week of December and I had made it just preliminary I might not have even needed it but oh no does not work these folks. They harass you and call you 3 times to confirm. Then they call you saying oh we called the insurance company and they suggest you find another office. The staff is rude, called me 15 minutes prior to my appointment to let me know there was an issue with forms i took 2 weeks prior. Then as i asked questions they hung up the phone on me when i called back and mentioned it tone completely changed but i canceled and will not be returning. Social skills are a key part of customer service. The cleaning i received was less than satisfactory and was told i was getting a deep clean which i would say was not much of a deep cleaning, also felt like a sales person was cleaning my teeth while she pushed the electric toothbrush . The cavities i had filled the assistant was more worried about her phone then anything and the sucker almost went into my eye multiple times. The dentist that filled my teeth was ready to keep injecting me with numbing shots but i had to tell her i didn't want anymore because they weren't necessary and then at the end when the fillings weren't even she refused to believe that when i said it and was annoyed she had to keep drilling... really unprofessional overall. I'm only writing this review because after scrolling down and seeing other peoples experience with the Male doctor at this practice(don't remember his name), I couldn't hold back ... my moms friend is a receptionist at this place( not naming names) and she was very sweet and welcoming and so was the other receptionist sitting next to her.. This happened a couple years ago when I was 18. I came in early for my appointment just cuz I was so eager to get seen , my teeth were horrible to begin with, well taken care of but extremely crooked... I don't remember the doctors name but he was a tall white male and may be the Practice owner..... one of the techs/assist came out out and brought me to an exam room. The doctor came in shortly after and introduced himself. He seemed really nice and kind. he asked me to open my mouth wide so he can see my teeth.. as soon as I did, he told me in quote, " I can't help you, you need reconstructive jaw surgery". I was a little surprised when he told me that, but that's not the reason why I'm writing this. It's everything that happened AFTER... I said "what" and he said again, "I can't help you" "you need to go somewhere else"... he rushed me out of the exam room without telling me anymore details on why he thinks I need reconstructive jaw surgery.... he brought me to the front lobby and told me to smile to my moms friend (the receptionist) and said "see, nothing I can do for him, he needs reconstructive jaw surgery" and he WALKED AWAY... keep in mind, this is a very small building so when he said that, there were like 5 clients behind me and they all heard it. Both of the receptionist apologized to me because they saw how mortified I was. I was really shy at the time and was so shocked and embarrassed that I couldn't t even talk or say something back to him. The receptionist called the orthodontists across the street to see if they would take me but I was to upset and I just left and went home... I work in the medical field so I see how doctors handle situations like this, and he did everything wrong. If he couldn't help me, that's fine and understandable, but don't be nice and sweet to me and then treat me like shit when you find out you can't help me. the ONLY reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the staff, who by the way, are incredible, unlike the doctor. read more
