I want to start this review off by stating that I am usually a drink chugger and thus go through coffee very quickly. I drink coffee daily, and will drink just about anything. Lately, I've been into iced lattes with chocolate flavoring but my usual go to is a basic cortado (should have ordered that instead). I couldn't tell you what was wrong with the drink, but I can tell you that I must not have liked it very much considering I didn't have the urge to chug it. I also don't really want to finish it. I think maybe the flavoring of the syrup is stronger than the taste of the espresso and this is why I think I should have ordered my usual. I did sit in the cafe and the vibe is really neat and clean. The seats are comfortable and there are plenty of places to sit down. The walls are basically just big windows which is great for a people-watcher such as myself. The music is a little loud, which isn't a problem for me because I am not doing anything remotely productive but had I been here expecting to get work done, I'm not sure I would have succeeded. The people were super nice when I ordered and I even watched them go around and clean the surfaces which is always a good sign. As I look around, I notice that everyone else sitting in the cafe has mostly half consumed beverages that have been sitting awhile (they look a little watered down). Maybe I just don't like the espresso which is a preference thing. I'd say definitely give it a try and see if you like it. Not sure I'll be back, personally. Also, the music is definitely getting louder. This is my queue to leave. read more

Made a quick stop to give Merit Coffee shop a try. Got myself a Latte and 2 Hot Pocket style pastries, o e was Italian and the other one was ham and cheese.. The latte was actually pretty good.. Now for the puff stuffed pastries. Those were just so doughy and not enough meat.. Maybe next time I'll grab myself a muffin or a croissant. But overall the place is nice and clean and the service was very polite. read more

One of my go to stops for studying. Their banana pudding matcha is top tier and enjoyed their pastries as well. Every time I've been the staff and always been nice and started a conversation with me when it's not busy. It does get busy on weekends but during the week it is calm and great to work here. read more

Came here with a friend for coffee and a sweet treat. I got the cherry blossom matcha, which surprisingly was a really good mix of flavors. The matcha and cherry went really well together. We also tried the strawberry pop tart which is vegan and made fresh. Definitely an elevated version and much better than the ones in the grocery store. So glad to have discovered this coffee shop not too far for matcha cravings. read more

Guessing I am the dumbass!? Ordered a Cold Brew which was delivered in an ice filled plastic cup with about 4 ounces of brewed coffee. When inquiring for a refill, the response is we do not do re-fills. I just paid $7.00 for 15 cents worth of brewed coffee, 3 cents for ice and 5 cents for a plastic cup and lid. This is a great stop after a walk around the lake for a pick me up. It's also got great seating for working and it is quiet and easy to access. The staff was fast and friendly, the coffee is fresh ground and made with expert precision. The flavor is great- and it's a perfect stop for a pick me up! read more

Every merit I go to is great and the employees are friendly. Every time I go to this one the employees are cold and not welcoming. I came in to work today and the bathroom had no soap. The dispenser was empty as well as an empty bottle. I went to tell an employee and ask for hand sanitizer as the other bathroom was occupied and they seemed dumbfounded by my question for soap! I'm curious - are their employees washing their hands? After being there for two hours the bathroom still had NO soap. Love merit but not a fan of this one unfortunately! read more

Really disappointed with this visit to Merit Coffee. I waited over 25 minutes for a simple drink while the baristas stood around talking. Everyone in the store was waiting and visibly frustrated. Multiple customers said something negative about this service. One lady even said to me as I was walking out "wow I thought we were going to die there it took that long." This wasn't a busy rush, it was a lack of urgency and priority. For the prices they charge, I expected much better service. Great product! Nothing beats the cereal cold brew!! My absolute go-to. Howevvvverrrr.. every single time I have picked up an online order at the Lakewood location. I have a very rude interaction from the staff working. Numerous times I have asked a question to the employee working and they cut me off and are extremely short and rude. This morning for example I picked my drink off the pick up shelf and noticed there was no cereal on top like normal - I asked the girl standing there (not busy at all) "Are you guys out-" and before I could finish my sentence she goes "yup" in a sassy tone. Another time I went to pick up two drinks and was asking, which is which. I said "Which-" and again didnt get a chance to finish my sentence before the man goes "theyre labeled" short and rude. Again, I cannot fault the product at all as this is one of my favorite coffee shops in Dallas. It is just very unfortunate 90% of my interactions at this location have been so rude! As the Merit chain of coffee shops has expanded into many locations, I think they've lost some of the drink quality/service that originally made them great. Macchiatos are hot. I want an iced espresso with a splash of milk (1oz or less). Please do not try to charge me a macchiato then argue with me. I even stated I didn't want to argue. I did leave saying holy sh*t as I left because I've never had to deal with someone arguing over an ounce of milk in any coffee shop. When you pay for a macchiato, you pay for milk waste and labor from steaming a small amount of milk. 10 years in specialty coffee and this is a first. Penny pinching to the ounce. I will take my business to another local shop. We have plenty in the area. The barista can't even tell me the difference in their espresso for milk vs single shots. The person on bar was pleasant. The person in the Paramore shirt on register insisted on arguing. Merit can be special and make iced macchiatos. I'll go somewhere where I don't get upcharged for less than an ounce of milk. read more

Total wait time for an iced caramel latte: 32 minutes, coffee is veryyyyyy mediocre I couldn't finish the whole cup. So this place is close to my house along with three other coffee shops so when I choose to come to your shop, I would expect you to want my business! But I don't feel like that every time I go in and there's always something not right and they take it personally when you ask them to change something do something instead of being customer service friendly I don't get it. I would think you would need all the business that you could handle! I used to do plant based milk, but I got tired of paying a dollar for alternative milk added to the cost of the coffee that just keeps going up now I've switched to a little bit of half-and-half so when I went in this last time to my surprise for the first time to get a coffee with half-and-half, I was told I would be charged a dollar for The alternative milk. Please tell me when half-and-half became an alternative milk?? So they said, but you could have whole milk and I said I don't want whole milk, but I'm also not paying a dollar more for something that every coffee shop gives away with their coffee and even now coffee shops are not charging the extra charge for alternative plant-based milks But it's more of the attitude that I get when I go in. It's not friendly. It's not happy to see you. It's not appreciative that I have a job here and that you're a customer and I want to give you customer service. It's like they're doing me a favor. Well you're not and I will not continue to come here just because I want service. They are soooo painfully slow. Even when ordering ahead, we waited 20 minutes past the "ready by" time they provided us-- a whole 40 minutes after ordering online. On top of that, when we did get our coffee the order was wrong. read more

Came in almost an hour after they opened this morning and they had nothing to eat. The only stuff they had was stuff left in the case from the day before. They had plain bagels but no butter or anything to serve with them. Wth? Very disappointing especially bc I stopped after going to the gym.
