So Merinnade Market just opened October 24, 2021. They are a mini grocery store selling International foods and beauty supplies.
I stopped by for some ready to eat foods because I heard they had chicken with jollof rice, but when I went on a Tuesday afternoon, they didn't have any. They also ran out of empanadas and arepas :( They had some rice and beans, but I was cautioned that the beans were very spicy, so I passed, lol.
They did have some Jamaican patties, so I got a chicken one and a beef one (They come in a pack of 2 with a drink for $4.98). I was hoping they were from a brand from the GTA that was not readily available in Ottawa, but they turned out to be from Patty King (the beef one) and TinNel's (the chicken one). Oh well, they were still good.
I had a chat with the shop owner, Shade, and she was super friendly and welcoming.
I'm hoping to be able to try some chicken with jollof rice on my next visit, and maybe some arepas and empanadas too. I really hope they get more prepared foods.
They have a small selection of shelf-stable items and a freezer with ice creams, but the ice creams looked like regular brands, not exotic imported types.
You know I love finding hidden places, and love supporting small independently owned businesses, so I'm hoping this little market does well! It's tucked away in an industrial park, but they have signs on the lawn marking where they are. There's free parking in front of the store. read more
