Mixed feelings but more positive than negative. Not going to go into details about why I was here but wanted to give some feedback about my experience. *The patient parking lot desperately needs to have the lines repainted. Multiple cars taking up two spots. *For coming in on a late weekend morning the service was quick for what needed to be done. In and out of the waiting room a couple times but not a long wait. When the sun is shining through the windows the warmth of a winter day feels nice. *When finally taken into the ER the service that was provided for my partner was very well. She was highly concerned from previous visits at her own medical places that when drawing blood she was getting pricked multiple times because they couldn't find the vein. She requested an ultrasound which the person who conducted it did it in the first try but wasn't completely successful but it worked enough. The main care taker, Emma?, was fantastic and made my partner very comfortable. I gave her that feedback which cheered up her day. *I noticed on the drapes around the bed where I was sitting had some stains on them. I brought it to Emma's attention and she said she would have the cleaners take care of it. I typically don't need to go to hospitals. I'm what they consider "boring " which is good. But I would come here if I needed immediate attention for something. read more

Try another hospital other than Mercy Emergency Room. Unless of course you like to be degraded and listen then I'm talk about you behind the counter saying that you're faking. And then have a doctor that doesn't follow the protocol for an existing ailment of 20 years. Instead gives you an experimental medicine with side effects that left me unable to move or barely speak and my body went into tremors. And no one bothered to even check on me. I ended up going home still dehydrated and the medicine that she gave me in my arm which was called Risperdal or Risperidone is actually used for schizophrenia and if you look up the side effects I managed to get most of them! She put it in my arm directly to the arm that I had rotator cuff surgery on and it froze the muscles in my arm and I'm still in pain as of today. Also caught some horrible virus from the waiting room as they sat me out there in front of everybody as I was gagging and sweating and throwing up, my immune system is already compromised and this gave me an illness that also attacked my husband and my daughter, I don't know if it was covid or what but the pain through our backs was like a stabbing knife along with all your other flu-like symptoms. I used to trust this Hospital but because of this one particular doctor which whom I am filing Mega amounts of complaints against, I'd rather die than go back there. read more

I had another wonderful experience on my colonoscopy with Dr Joanna Sampson today with the rest of the great team of Mercy hospital ENDOSCOPY unit . Thank you especially to Filipina nurses Chali / Fe and Leah ; nurse Cathy , the very skilled IV male nurse ( forgot his name and anesthesiologist ( forgot his name too)and even Wayne the w/ chair transport staff who took me all the way down to the parking lot . You all made my experience there today so comfortable and smooth / easy. read more

They need to just erase the word "emergency" and just call it a waiting room. I come there two weeks post op back surgery . Fallen , cuts on hand wrist and fingers swollen. I ah e long term right sided sciatica. So they figure let me sit in a waiting room for 4 hours!! That sure helps sciatica. I really literally can not stand the place. Furthermore it's FREEZING in here horrible insulation the entrance door is broken and open. They don't even care because they are warm behind the desk. You can literally see your breath it's so cold. The 1 star is for A WAZNER THE PA in the Emergency Department. She has to be the rudest doctor I have ever seen. I was seen and admitted for Kidney stones needing surgery. She came into my room and said I had 2 options 1 call a urologist myself and get an appointment next day to schedule surgery or she can admit me and call them herself, but the thing is she told me I had 2 minutes to make my choice. She comes flying back in 2 minutes later and said so what is it your 2 minutes are up. I told her guess you're admitting me the doctor's office is closed my 2 minutes are up. She is one rude woman. As for the nurses in the emergency Department they get 5 stars. Nicole in charge is amazing as always, Amiee at the front was amazing and so kind, Karla in Triage a true gem, Reece my nurse was compassionate and such a good nurse these nurse care so deeply for their patients. The nurses and the techs on the 5th floor during my stay they were all great very kind and compassionate. Come on mercy when we come to the emergency, we need doctors that are kind and there because they care not these fly by night rude doctors. Really miss the REAL DOCTORS that used to care for us at mercy. read more

I went to the emergency room last Saturday with severe symptoms (high blood pressure,shaking uncontrollably/tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, lightheadedness, inability to walk, stomach pain, migraine headache, all of which lasted for days) When I saw my doctor on Thursday, her suggestion was to visit the ER if symptoms did not improve. My husband took me at approximately 3PM. When I arrived at the window, I was sent to triage and told that someone would be with me shortly. The nurse came to the waiting room for a blood sample and was unable to take said sample due to my shaking being so erratic. I was told that when I was given a room they would take the sample after being given an IV. I remained in the waiting room for 1.5-2 hours in such pain that I could not help but cry. I returned to the window with my husband to attempt to secure a bed to lay down in because of my terrible pains and the woman at the desk responded that there were no beds available what so ever. It was obvious she could care less about what was happening with me. When I responded explaining my extreme pain from my symptoms and mentioned that I was observing others who seemed not to be sick at all, I was told that I had "no knowledge of what was wrong with them," and if I did not like it, I would be taken off the list and should leave. Afterwards, I contacted United Healthcare, to no avail. Finally, after waiting an obscene amount of time, I was called in and placed in a small room and was met with a nurse. I was given and IV and blood was taken, as well as told that the doctor would be in shortly. I waited yet another hour and finally Dr D. Lyle arrived. The only paperwork he brought with him was a list of patients and had no chart or personal information regarding my medical history or current symptoms. This was the fifth time since arrival at Mercy that I had to explain my very obvious symptoms, which he obviously ignored and did not respond to the majority of said issues. He inquired as to "where" exactly the pain in my stomach was, I then proceeded to point to the spot. His response was, "You need a CT Scan." After spending a minute and a half with with me, he left and was not seen again. I laid there in severe pain, waited at least 1.5 hours further, and in the interim no one arrived to take the scan or even to check on me. I asked the nurse if my husband could escort me down to the scan Room and was told no. I then requested an ETA regarding how much longer it would be, and was told that she "Had no idea." I repeated that I was in pain; the noise and bright lights agitating my symptoms. at this point I expressed my desire to return home after over five hours of waiting, only to receive no help and see a physician for less than 1.5 minutes while dealing with these symptoms for over four days. After reviewing the doctor's reason for visit writeup, I found that only two of my symptoms were listed on the sheet (vomiting, diarrhea.) Both my blood pressure and respiration was high, and I was experiencing all of the previously listed symptoms were present along with swelling of the face. The hospital staff could have cared less about how ill I was, even if I was risking death. I am still experiencing severe symptoms and will have to see another physician. If you are sick and in need of medical care, please do not patronize this hospital. This is a very dangerous place. read more

Imagine going to the hospital to seek help and safety from multiple head injuries, and the nurse named Anne Marie, first getting rude when you forgot to mention one of your injuries because your focus is your head that's what hurts, your bleeding ear and the imbedded lip piercing that's just getting more and more painful and swollen by the second, not getting any vitals taken, getting yelled at for having panic attacks and hyperventilating, not being accommodated when explaining due to being attacked you don't feel safe waiting in your car alone and asked if there was a more private area to wait because you can't control your panic attacks, and you retreated to the farthest back corner trying to not be a bother because you can't control your breathing and you're panicking and no one is helping, being told your potential concussion is not a priority, but how would you actually know? you didn't take my vitals, then calling security who threatens to arrest you, you tell them you don't feel safe to drive because you barely made it there, and you were attacked which is why you were there, and ask if can they help you, they only ask if you called 911, and you tell them no because you were more worried about your injuries and know in these cases the hospital will file and you talk to them there, instead this Springfield cop turn on their camera and tell you you're trespassing. You inform the officer you will be recording too, he tells you go ahead... The trauma this hospital caused me.... I got attacked then threatened to be arrested. don't worry mercy, I sliced open my own lip and got the piercing out myself. was too scared and traumatized after that and not capable of driving myself to the other hospital as getting home was actually closer. The food provided in the Emergency Room recovery area, while filling, was ultimately lacking. Let me explain. The core ingredients of the supper I was provided with was simple: A turkey sandwich, a soup du jour, and a dessert. The soup du jour was a tomato based soup, and the dessert was a smattering of tangerines. Basic seasonings were provided (salt and pepper (and Hellman's mayonnaise for the sandwich)), as well as liquid refreshments, but for the purposes of this critique shall be skipped over. The turkey sandwich, while having the consistency of turkey served upon wheat bread, was ultimately what it was: A turkey sandwich. Much to my disappointment, no cheese, lettuce, tomato or any other fixtures were even options, making the Hellman's mayonnaise a necessity, rather than an option. The tomato soup was ultimately warm enough, and fit the criteria. However, nothing stood out from this tomato soup more than it's competitors. Liberal usage of pepper was taken. The tangerines were juicy and satisfying, despite my acute suspicion of them coming from a prepackaged location rather than fresh. However, bias may play a role here, as I love tangerines. Overall, as a patron of Mercy Medical since I was born, I have to say, the food at Mercy Medical ER (distinction between the ER food and the regular hospital food; have not yet tried it) can heal the soul, but is not soul food. It will replenish you, but not nourish you. You will survive, but not thrive. read more

Great hospital great care. I'd give 5 stars but the dietary is a joke. Pack a lunch or cooler!! I was patient and gave Gluten Free diet first breakfast I get Gluten cereal and Gluten toast. I send it back and I get tray 1/2gluten and 1/2 free. O DC course I don't eat Then lunch is gluten free sandwich tick hard bread with 1// slice cheese 1 slice (tiny meat. ( I hydrate meat. Salad was old nasty. Dinner only gluten free options are pasta with red sauce, Mac n cheese and same hard sand which. I order Mac n cheese and salad, hoping salad won't be old . I get Pasta and red sauce and mashed potatoes with carrots, no salad. Who eats pasta with mashed potatoes and carrots. No one ever visited me while admitted or sent a menu. Not to mention I'm a Diabetic and was sent a tray of nothing but Carbs. Do they really not know in a hospital dietary department that carbs break down into sugars when eaten???? That's idiotic!!! if i could give it a 0 star rating i would. my mom and i came in around 7:10pm and its now 1:38am. im having severe abdominal pain and all staff did was tell me to sit and wait. we've been waiting. ER's are for emergencies and nothing is getting treated like an emergency. this place truly does suck. they put a group of girls who were there because of period cramps before an elderly lady whos sugar was extremely low. and they say they "take care of the people who are of worse health", yea right. around 12pm the staff ordered pizza and basically had a mini pizza party, laughing and all. meanwhile patients are left with a bathroom thats out of order, no food, shitty blankets, and left in pain. 0/5 stars if i could read more

I was there for surgery and great excellent service by doctors and nurses alike. Appreciated the nurses in Floor 3 (surgery), Vicky, Mary, and several other ones. I'm home recuperating and they made my stay as comfortable as possible considering the amount of pain that I was in. I couldn't say much about the food service because I was too sick to eat anything. But let's be grateful that we aren't in a 3rd World country where nothing is provided for you. We take one too many things for granted nowadays and feel entitled. We could be just grateful to have whatever service is provided by folks in the hospital. While folks are working remotely they still have to go in and put their lives at risk for us. We don't deserve such a great service. read more

Horrible service. Had to go to three different stations to get registered as each did something different. An MRI took 3 plus hours.

Went to Mercy Medical center today for a CT Scan. Wore my mask and had my temperature taken but still had to touch surfaces like door handles and furniture. There we hand sanitizer stations positioned about the hospital between the entrance, intake, radiology, and leaving the hospital but it took me 5 tries to find a hand sanitizer station that was actually working and would dispense any solution. They all clicked and buzzed but nothing came out of the dispensers. Seems odd that a hospital that treats Covid Patients and claims to follow CDC guidelines can't keep their hand sanitizer stations operational with the solution. read more

I love Mercy Hospital and a few of my doctors work in the medical building. But I needed to go to the ER for a test. I was horribly surprised to see a man in a security uniform not wearing a mask. I waked around and behind the desk that does intake and I said to him, where is your mask. I got a shrug. Imagine that? I went to this hospital for three days. I had a chance to experience nearly three complete shifts. With the exception of one person who had the 'I really don't have patience for your nonsense' attitude that you hear about in the ER, everyone else had a friendly, casual, and professional attitude. The entire time I was there, I never met a single person that gave the impression they didn't know what they were doing. They explained what they were doing, and didn't seem to be bothered by my questions. Even the food was good! It is difficult to make food taste good when you can't use salt (in case have a bad heart), or spices (in case people have a bad stomach)... and it still tasted quite good... especially the chocolate cake! If I ever need to go to the hospital again, I would choose this place. read more

They tell you not to bring any money with you. I say bring money and stash it in your shoe. That way you can go to the cafeteria and buy your own food when they don't bring you any. On Monday, November 26, 2018, I was a patient in this hospital for lumbar surgery. In chronological order, I met an IV Nurse named Arlette on the third floor. I have a distinct aversion to intravenous device insertion because of several most unpleasant experiences, but I found Arlette to be unbelievably skilled in her assignment: there was no pain at all! Upon arrival on the fourth floor that afternoon I received a welcome and continuing care from Nurse Julia, and during the night hours extraordinary care from Nurse Samantha. Yesterday (Tuesday) the Nurse was Heather, and assisting in patient care was a gentleman named Pedro. I wish to commend them all for their exceptional personalities, and for their dedication to both their patients and the hospital, and for their superb medical professionality. These ladies and gentlemen deserve the highest approbation and recognition; to be more correct, I should mention that the entire staff of Mercy Hospital deserves applause for the way they discharge their duties. Also, the Operating Room team of Dr. Natasha McKay and P. A. Thomas 'Tim' McDowell, both of New England Neurosurgical Associates, might well be the finest yet assembled in this area. Had my daughter here 2 1/2 years ago and the experience still baffles me. The nurses there were extremely rude and had horrible bedside manners, especially towards someone in labor. Then after I had my daughter they tried to force me to breastfeed, judged me cause I decided not to, then refused to discharge me until I watched a video on breastfeeding. Not only that i was 17 when i had my child, and was judged and treated poorly based on that as well. Hopefully all those horrible women have been fired, but I'd never have another child there, and wouldn't recommend anybody else to either. read more

Mother had spinal surgery. The surgeon never called me back to tell me if everything went well or not and then the hospital wanted to discharge my mother in severe pain the very next day! I told them I didn't think that was safe and the physician's assistant just stared at me with a cold dead look in her eyes and said she would find something to help the pain and work on her release that very night. Mother says the staff rarely checks in on her other than to administer medication. I was coldly told to find a rehab facility ASAP or take her home. If there is a God he must frown at that type of compassion. I will never let anyone I know go to Mercy again. read more

I had to get an X-ray there and I called to find out when I could go. They said beginning at 6AM so I figured great, I'll go before work and won't have to miss any work time. However, they have this new procedure that every person to come to the hospital has to go to registration and get checked in, get a bracelet, get your info reviewed, etc. And when I got there at 7:30AM it appeared that the rest of the world had also planned on going to the hospital before work, so it took me 90 minutes to get registered. Once registered I was in and out in about 5 minutes. But 90 minute wait for a 5 minute procedure? Not good, people. read more

I gave birth here and I was expecting the best. I felt like I could've died here. First they don't give you any 3d pics unless something is wrong with ur baby.I went loving the private rooms, the crosses over every bed and romantic dinner after birth plus they give ur new baby a personalized book. Well not for me !! I got there 3cm when I was 8 cm they stopped my contractions because I had to wait till an OR was ready and they only had one. Then I had to wait for a doctor. Once they started my contractions again all hell broke loose n had to get an emergency c section. I'm really mad because my baby never got her book either I guess it was my bad luck. I had surgery on August 24th despite me telling the anesthesiologist that I was a difficult intubation and required fiberoptic visual aid I left that hospital with airway restriction, needed steroids to reduce swelling it took about 5 weeks before I could eat any solid foods. I called the anesthesiology department to explain my situation to know avail no response that evening I called the Pa on call for my surgeon he asked me if I had any steroids from prior to surgery I said yes. I don't know what was worse the surgery or the swelling of my airway. read more

I was scheduled to have surgery for 3 weeks then 2 days prior to my surgery, my surgeons office called & said I couldn't have part of the surgery because she didn't have the correct credentials. Why would it take the hospital over 3 weeks to notice this? Now I get to pay another $2500 to Mercy for a second surgery! Is this how non-profits make their money? read more

I had an ultrasound biopsy from a lymph node yesterday at Mercy. I've had these done before at another facility so I knew what to expect. WHAT I GOT WAS THE WORSE EXPERIENSE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! The doctor uses a type of gun to obtain the biopsy. He along with the ultrasound tech were the only ones in the room. (there were at least 3 techs in the room at the other facility). He took two biopsies and then decided to take another. This last biopsy was done wrong (he used the gun in an area that was not frozen) and I now have a cut inside my breast because he evidently did not know what he was doing. When he did this I yelled at least twice!! His reaction was "oops I guess I must have hit the wrong thing" as he smiled and apologized. No concern at all for my well being. He then had a needle with some type of solution that I assume was suppose to be used on the lymph node but proceeded to accidently spray on my face!!! His reaction "did I do that"? No one bothered to give me anything to wipe it off so I used my hand. I WILL NEVER HAVE THIS DONE AT THIS FACILITY AGAIN. EVER! Wonder if he was one drugs!! read more

My father was there. No one knew his history after being told by my mother. They gave him morphine then the case mgr came in with documents and told him not to fill them out after a narcotic was administered. When questioned nothing but attitude and dirty looks. When the nurse told me he was fine I found his heart rate was still elevated I asked to speaks Doctor. Again nothing but dirty looks then the 7 foot tall security guard was outside the room. No doctor in three hours that I was there. Not a comforting feeling when your Dad was having health issues. Tried to contact ceo but of coarse no retribution. No good! Brought my daughter for OT at Weldon Rehab. Make sure to get specific directions! There are multiple buildings that say Weldon Rehab. We drove around for a while, the signs not helping as they all said Weldon Rehab. Then when we got there there were only 2 people at the 4 check in windows, one of whom couldn't help b/c she was on the phone. Several people standing waiting. Will stick with Baystate as much as possible in the future. read more

This review is to compare baystate and mercy maternity wards I have two children and gave birth at both. The medical care I received before giving birth was, I would say standard their staff was friendly and cheerful. I was going in by appointment to be induced, was greeted they said they had been waiting for me. Great. But that's everything good stopped. Instead of asking me for my birth plan they asked me about DNR paperwork, and for those of you who don't know what that is it's do not resuscitate. I should have got up right then and went to baystate. But unfortunately I didn't but I didn't know what would happen after that. To go on I must state that my birth plan consisted of one thing and that was to not be in pain (get an epidural ASAP). After pleading with the nurses and doctor for an epidural they told me it was too soon and it would have worn off by the time I actually needed it. The kind of person I am I take the pain until I can't anymore then I'll say something. Well the guy ended up showing up as I was pushing and was then told it would be too risky to get pain relief other than the gas mask the nurse was holding up to my face and I couldn't breathe. So bottom line just go to baystate I know I will never go to mercy again. read more
