I had to take my son to the Pediatric ER. They were amazing. Great with kids. So understanding. They admitted my son and we are ending our second night here. They truly made my son feel like a rock star. Thank you to the ER Staff who dealt with a concerned mama. Thank you to EVERYONE here on the 4th floor pediatric unit! The doctors take their time to explain. The nurses come in frequently and always are eager to help, WITH ANYTHING! Always with a smile and ready to communicate and play with the kids. Thank you to the volunteers! Wow. You really know how to get projects started and the kids occupied. And let's never forget the staff who picks up the laundry and handles our food. These nurses were incredibly impersonal, almost apathetic. They turned me away and told me I simply had a stomach bug after making me SHIT IN A CAN (a completely useless test relating to my issue, I most likely have endometriosis). !!AVOID THIS ER AT ALL COSTS!!! My check in process was seamless and it seemed the people at the desk had more concern for me than anyone who actually treated me. 10/10 front desk people but that was the best of this visit. Around 1.5hrs in and a woman began SCREAMING begging for a doctor to help her, she was gagging and hacking and calling out to god for 30mins, making all the people in the waiting area EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. After showing concern for the poor woman 3 different times they moved me into another area, but doctors and nurses would just walk right past her. It absolutely broke my heart and made me loose hope of any humanity or compassion within that ER. There were 2 other older women who also asked to use the restroom and BOTH were IGNORED and after getting attention by getting in the way, one was told to wait because the nurses were "busy with a line of people" THE "NURSE" in burgundy WASNT HELPING ANYONE AND THERE WAS NO LINE. While the other had been ignored for 15 mins. Not to mention I felt like my concerns as a newly pregnant mom were completely invalidated by the doctor, also I felt like the doctor was trying to convince me to not get the ultrasound being 9 weeks pregnant because it was a hassle for him and he wouldn't be able to see anything (when I enforced it we saw my baby, he confirmed no internal bleeding and I saw my baby's heart beat again which brought me so much peace). Mind you this was after I'd just been in a car accident and worried about the baby. He also told me prior to telling me that the ultrasound was pointless, "well there's nothing we can do for you unless your actively bleeding and in that case you'd probably loose the baby but your fine and not in pain so I wouldn't be so concerned." Then he reluctantly changed the sheets in the room in front of me and has me sit in there, and the room was very obviously unsanitary. There was a barely touched soda, trash from whatever sanitized instruments they used on the last individual. It was disgusting in there. I felt like another problem instead of a concerned patient. Also I've had two miscarriages which the Dr had been made aware of but that didnt seem to matter to him. There was also a glove on the floor in front of the main treatment rooms that doctors and nurses couldn't be bothered to pick up MY ENTIRE 5 hrs waiting in the treatment bay. They walked over it, I even saw a couple employees stare at it. Absolutely worst experience in an ER and broke my heart. Will be telling EVERYONE to Avoid this place at all costs! read more

this place is the absolute worst place out of any hospital. they don't give a shit about the patients and they think everyone is lying. they take between 4-12 hours just for a doctor to do anything. Then they just assume it's nothing so you can get out of their hair. It's all about the money not about the patient . usually they are all at at center off the floor laughing and eating and doing nothing while you bleed out. And I'm Not over exaggerating one bit. you will be there for 12-24 hours and you will not be treated even if you are in severe pain. don't go there unless you have to. I was not impressed at all with any of the staff at the Baystate ED Medical Center, except for the woman who confirmed my registration information for my mother. My mom arrived approximately at 10:45pm in the ED at Baystate. One set of x-rays were done in a timely manner - when they came back with the results, they stated that my Mom did not have a broken hip as suspected. Had to wait an additional 5 hours for another set of x-rays for her leg! None of the doctors came to my mother during that 5 hour span to see how she was doing. The doctors were joking and laughing at their desks right outside the ED room. I will never recommend Baystate ED for any services. read more

The staff and services are clearly a victim of the structural racism that is impacting inner city hospitals throughout the state and the New England region, and greater awareness needs to be spread about solving these disparities. The higher ups have no regard or consideration for their patients and don't give their doctors or nurses the proper tools needed to give their patients good long term care. It takes forever for the staff to figure out what's up with a patient to the point where when they do find the problem, the patient ends up getting readmitted to the emergency service. read more

After being airlifted from Berkshire Medical Center at 11PM to Baystate Medical my 83 yr. old husband was placed in the CCU with AFib, I finally was able to see him the next morning. A pacemaker was considered so any liquids/food, oral/body care was sporadic if at all. I brought his sonicare toothbrush to freshen his mouth. When I left it was 7 pm that evening leaving his book, magazine and toothbrush on his table in full view. He was moved to another floor and room overnight before his procedure. When I arrived the next morning only his book and magazine were in the hospital plastic bin. When I asked about his toothbrush the nursing staff from the CCU remembered his book, magazine and toothbrush but knew nothing of the toothbrush's disappearance. The Patient Relations coordinator " investigated" the matter but the decision was that it was not their responsibility even though my husband was a medicated patient, under their care, moved to another floor and room at night after I left him. Baystate needs to spruce their staff's honesty when vulnerable people are left in their care. read more

All the nurses, doctors, surgeons, PA's, and more, deserve a BIG THANK YOU from me. I liked the Diagnostic area, large spaces, mostly private, quiet. But, I mostly want to give a shout out to the hospital dietary staff, I had a meal there the night before my surgery that was so delicious...I truly have never had food that tasted so good! On September 28, 2025, that evening's dinner was Herbed Pork Roast, Garlic Green Beans and Butternut Squash, with Peach Crumble for dessert. I have to say it was a meal worthy of Chef Ramsey. I liked the other meals there, but whomever the chef was for that meal, he or she (or they or them!!) deserves a Culinary Award! I saved the Peach Crumble until right before midnight. I am hoping the chef received the compliments I gave to the dietary staff, and the nurses. It was truly one of the best meals I have had anywhere...home cooked, or restaurant. Thank you to whomever that gourmand is, I hope you continue to help the patients with nutritious, and really DELICIOUS meals!!! THANK YOU!! read more

I have worked at Baystate for 23 years. It has been in a steady downward spiral for the past 8-10. It is the absolute worst place to get a job. The benefits have declined every year, the wage increases are well below inflation and most years they give none at all. You will work in an awful environment for people that have been hired for 1 reason only... and it isn't their experience or work ethic. went at 8 am to get checked for severe bed bug bites flying insect bites and others Also went to get my feet checked because I can barely walk for years it hurts like hell and I'm a working man now: from the minute I got there the receptionist or whatever ere being super rude for no reason I was respectful and honest and had a smile every time I could and I was ignoring any negativity coming my way: but than the lady asked if I was allergic to anything. I confessed to her that I haven't been to the doctor since I was a child and that I could be allergic to something im not aware of. she cut me off and said it was a yes or a no question and than proceeded to checkmark no(I'm guessing) honestly I ignored this because I wanted care. after I was sent to a room I guess I was not worthy of a doctor. I got offered a referral to a foot doctor in a week or two and I declined because if I wanted to do that I could have myself. After the nurse said she was gonna give me something for the bites. I said hopefully not Benadryl. She said it doesn't have to be. Why are you allergic? I said no. I could of done that at home(I was self treating already with penicillin and benadryl) she said ok I'll get you an ointment (I assume she meant cortisone) I said okay: and dipped. Wasn't mad at the nurse she was doing her job. Hope that receptionist gets fired tho. Where do I begin ? Our daughter was transferred from Berkshire Medical Center on January 15 with septic shock ! At first ,the Doctors and Nurses were very concerned and supportive , but as time went on it seemed like they were more interested in getting her out of the bed ! She was supposed to be on a very regimented antibiotic and pain management program for 6 to 8 weeks ! After 3 weeks they discharged her with a bag of prescriptions and another appointment to see someone in 2 weeks ? The social worker was totally useless and rude and they moved her out of her room into a waiting area with a Johnny on because she had no clothes to change into ! She waited there for four hours because we live 90 minutes away and we were her only transportation! Disgusted and disappointed are a pretty mild description ! I was going to write this long letter, But I will say this. My wife was air lifted to BSMC. The ICU was fantastic and saved her life. Once you leave the ICU you become cattle. The care or lack of care was awful and the paid people at the door were the best examples of bad to terrible customer service. To top the list Security was dam near criminal. Went to the Palmer location for an emergency visit for broken bones in my hand. Absolutely fantastic care and service.......then.... Needed to make a follow up with orthopedic surgeons. They told me to come in at 9am. When I showed up at 840, the receptionist stated that the doctor wasn't even in until 11 and so my appointment was moved without notice to 220pm. I returned home and got a call that my appointment was being cancelled because the doctor wasn't the one on call the night of my break....... What? I was asked to call a different orthopedic surgeon. Was given the wrong number. When I finally reached the office I found out they lost my x-rays and I'd need to find them and fax them over myself.... Please keep in mind that my hand is broken, I'm in an incredible amount of pain......and all baystate doctors are literally refusing to help me. read more

Don't take yourself or your family here if possible. You will wait for 12 hours or more in the ER just to be treated like an absolute burden. A lady next to us had been asking for a tissue to blow her nose for hours. No response. For a tissue? They do not give even the simplest support for anybody suffering. Nurses are constantly monotone and brush people off as if they have better things to do and we're wasting their time. It's absurd that this hospital has a 1.5 star rating-human lives are at risk and expect to be helped and cared for when they go to a HOSPITAL! And everytime you try to leave a review anywhere, you get the same automated response. Truly cannot believe how inhumane a place like this can be. Security guards are also incredibly rude and yell at people who have obviously never been here before and don't know their way around. My own mom was misdiagnosed here twice. I would never recommend this patient care center. No one is in charge, messages left are not returned at all levels and there is a generalized apathy among workers acting as switchboard operators in nursing staff. Do not go here thinking your needs will be addressed. It's easy to like a one time visit, but after the course of multiple no-option admissions, the flaws in communication and basic healthcare are more than disconcerting. I will opt for home. The worst!!! Forget about ever seeing a doctor. My primary is 18 months out for an appointment. Skin doctor, about a year. (I hope my dark growth is not melanoma, but I guess I will wait it out.). Been trying to schedule a colonoscopy. Three phone calls; finally called Baystate Gastro direct. They are not booking til another month out because they are so far behind (thanks for letting me know). Then appointments are 7-8 months out from there. I am 56, never has a colonoscopy and have to wait a total of 9 months to see someone??? You should be-able to sue for such horrible (yet extremely expensive) service. read more

My brother ended up in the cardio vascular ICU in Springfield. Everyone from the front desk to the nurses, doctors and social worker was amazing. They had a team of knowledgeable experts working on him who saved his life and got him back on his feet after an very intense period. They also worked very closely with our family, ensuring we were informed, providing us great access to see him, and helping inform decisions. My family is extremely grateful for this amazing team which we highly recommend. read more

Worst experience for my 79 year old mother in-law. She fainted in the kitchen, slammed her back. Drove her to emergency room at 9pm. Was not allowed to wait with her! Had to leave her there alone, in a wheelchair, where she sat for 3 hours. No water, no checkins, nothing! Staff assured me we would get regular updated phone/texts on her status. NOTHING! I knew I was in trouble when the er nurse wrote down my cell phone on a piece of paper and shoved it into his pocket. Next day at 6pm, they had still not given her anything to eat! No phone calls/texts. We had to chase down people for updates. 5 days later she is still in hospital. Fractured a vertebrae, but feeling well, and she wants to go home. She is diabetic and they told us she was in a special diabetic food plan. Yea right! Breakfast - egg, French toast, fruit Lunch - Mac and cheese, rice and fruit. WTF! Worst customer experience. Typical city center hospital. Gunshots and stabbings overwhelming less urgent needs. Which is why you read the reviews with all the long wait times. Avoid this place if you can. Long story short wife went to urgent care. Urgent care said you need to go to er. Go to er suppose to get ct scan and another test. Took 2 hours to get a fuxking CT scan mind you my wife is actually in pain unlike the other people who were laughing and trying to make fkin friends. Talk to front desk and and tried to get a status. Front desk guys wifes a priotory were working on it. This was 4 fucking hrs later of waiting mind you wife still in God damn pain. 5 hours later we get pulled in the back to see the doc. 15 mins go by and some chick asked if the doctor came to talk. Guess what NOPE. 15 mins later goes by same chick comes in and says I just talked to the provider and she already came in. The hospital mental health team for children is deplorable. They sent three suicidal children home while we were there and think they know better then everyone else. Parents credentials or knowledge of their child mean nothing to them. I hated them before for giving my partner a heart attack during surgery but now they are even worse. I was violently assaulted in Turners Falls by two people and kicked in the stomach and in the head. I was taken to Baystate medical center at 2 in the morning. Within 20 minutes the doctor came in and examined me and concluded I had a mild concussion. During the assault, my cell phone had been stolen from me. The nurses at Baystate were very caring and let me use the phone at their desk to call and update worried family members. They also let me stay in the examing room and rest until the Er became busier rather than just send me out to the waiting room. I truly felt I was in good hands and was being cared for. read more
