My husband had a massive heart attack. Fabulous care all around! Thanks to the EMTs, doctors, and nurses - he's doing great. Thank you to Baystate Medical Center! read more

They have the most messed up system for calling in to an office. You get a menu to walk through, thent you are hold for a while - easily 20 minutes - before someone picks up...and it's not the office you want...it's some central number. This "operator" takes your message and then she/he contacts the office that you wanted and gives them your message. And then you wait for the office to call you back. Generally that doesn't happen until sometime after 5 pm, depending on how busy they are. And then if you miss the call, you have to call them back and go through the same call process as before (menu, hold, operator who takes message) and you are put at the end of the queue for being called back later. And repeat again, if necessary. It becomes an incredible waste of time. Maybe, it's intentional, and they want to discourage calls. read more

Quality of care is fine. I have no problem with that. Trying to create a patient portal is another matter. I have tried for days, been on hold for over an hour, and resubmitted the required information too many times to count. Their portal sign up system is malfunctioning. I just had to share my frustration and hope that your experience is better than mine. read more

Do not take your children to the Pediatric emergency room. We had a terrible experience. The nurse that checks the vitals lacks professionalism. Angelina's actions compromised my daughter safety, violate professional ethics, display a severe lack of competence and empathy. She refused wearing gloves during blood work. This action poses severe risks to patients, exposing my daughter to bloodborne pathogens like STAPH infections, HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C , Herpes among other diseases through skin contact. This increases risks of cross-contamination, infections from broken skin, and failure to comply with mandatory OSHA safety standards. By doing so, she disregarded hygiene standards, skipping safety checks, ignoring alarms, and failing to use proper protective equipment. Upon her entrance she displayed a lack of empathy, acting cold, being easily frustrated, and failing to listen to patient and caregivers concerns. Once the caregiver called out of her behavior and actions, and told her to STOP, she failed to possess necessary skills, not admitting to mistakes, and refusing to take accountability for patient outcomes. She then proceeded to gossip with her colleagues at the front desk within ears length of everyone including the caregiver patients and other onlookers in the waiting room violating my daughter's HIPPA Rights. Her subordinates had us wait in a room for over an hour, to be heard and they refused to write an incident report upon request, refused to provide the nurses full name lacking transparency and discuss how they would handle this situation if the employee would be reprimanded and told to change her behavior and actions? read more

Substandard care in day shift observation unit and S6. I was a post-operative rectal mass removal and perhaps was seen twice by my nurse in the day shift observation unit. Upon discharge, my IV was traumatically removed creating a massive hematoma in my right hand. I had post-operative complications and was hospitalized for 2 days on S6. I was simply left there by the day shift with no way/assistance to bath or even brush my teeth. I developed a C-diff infection. A commode was placed by my bedside, which became filled with urine and feces and never emptied, nor did I even have even toilet paper. I received nothing for breakfast or lunch with only a cup of water by my bedside. I have been a Master Degreed RN for 46 years, and even taught nursing at a local university, and have never seen this level of indifference and incompetence. Stay away from this hospital! read more

February 23, 2026 There is a major storm today, and we repeatedly tried calling the center to confirm whether they were open or closed. No one answered our calls. Concerned about missing the appointment, we decided to drive there while continuing to call. Eventually, a care representative answered and informed us that the center was closed for the day. However, we were then told that if we did not come in, it would be marked as a "no show." We were asked if we would like to reschedule immediately or be marked as a no show. It's extremely frustrating that no prior communication was sent to inform patients of the closure, and even more concerning that patients are still threatened with a no-show status despite the center being closed due to weather conditions. There should be a clear system in place to notify patients of closures and prevent penalties in situations beyond their control. read more

Baystate Hospital's decision to stop providing gender-affirming care for minors is downright wrong. This is a direct attack on transgender youth who are already vulnerable and struggling. Denying them life-saving care is not only cruel but completely out of step with current medical standards and the guidance of major healthcare organizations. This is a failure of the hospital's duty to care for all patients with dignity and respect. It's 2026--how is this still happening? Baystate should be ashamed. read more

DO NOT come to the ER here if you have any other choices. I came in with horrible pain from a kidney stone. They managed to take blood and urine from me, and 5.5 hours later I still had no idea when/if I would ever be seen. Two people next to me said they'd already been there 12 hours and were still waiting. So I spent over five hours in excruciating pain while the triage clerk could only repeat "Sorry we don't know when you'll be seen" to me over and over. Didn't matter how much pain I was in. They were way more concerned that I sat in the (empty) visitor's area seats instead of the (very full) patient seats. Go to Noble or Mercy or someplace else. read more

It is very sad, that as an established Patient of many years, you are unable to get an annual exam appointment. Due for one early this year, each time calling to schedule one six months prior, the schedule wasn't open to schedule yet, then calling in November the schedule is full. now continuing to try to call, in April, I was offered one date, for August that I couldn't make work. ONE day and one time was available for august and the September schedule is not open. this feels wildly inappropriate to not be able to access medical care at a facility that you are an established patient in. at a recent appointment, I was there, 15 minutes early. then waited 2.5 hours to see my provider, leading to a significant impact on my own schedule. what is happening at this place? read more

The way I was treated when I did not have insurance when I went into the ER with a heart rate of 180 was absolutely despicable. The doctor even forgot to close the door to my room & I heard them talking bad about me. They did not take blood, they did not run any tests, they did not do anything other than give me a sedative. My entire visit was around 2 hours, most of which was spent dosing off due to the sedative and sent home with a 2.1k medical bill. A few months later I went back with state health insurance. The difference in treatment was night and day. They immediately took me in, did an AKG due to my elevated heart rate to make sure there weren't any issues there. They took my blood and the doctor told me I had increased enzymes and liver damage. read more

My son went in for painful swelling of his legs and ankles. He is 40 years old. He had been there for 18 hours in a waiting room, then finally brought back into the ER. They had no beds, so they have a man with swollen lower limbs and feet sitting in a chair with no way of elevating his legs. After 24 hours they finally brought him an IV and some Lasix. Even basic first aid teaches you to ELEVATE SWOLLEN LEGS!! This hospital in Springfield should have its operating license revoked. I have seen this so many times. In the same cubicle as my so. Was an elderly man with severe chest pains. No bed... so he was sitting in a chair. Avoid this hospital at all costs, if you have an emergency. You could die before they do anything to help. read more

ZERO STARS IS WHAT THIS HOSPITAL DESERVES. MY 65 year old brother who is a diabetic, leg swollen twice in size from an injury was in excruciating pain had to wait in the ED for over 12 hours before being seen by a doctor. No food or water. He was in terrible pain and there alone. Here are his words tha t he wrote 12/12/2023: Since reentering into the Baystate Emergency Room with a severe contusion and serious ligament care needed it's been the worst situation I ever experienced. I came in at 6:15 PM yesterday evening and I'm sitting in the waiting room as I write this story at 6:45am and have not seen a doctor yet. I'm in excruciating pain, I haven't eaten, it's been a mission trying to get a cup of water, I'm dizzy, and I totally feel unsupported. This system is the worst system I've ever seen. How in the world do you go to an emergency room looking for immediate service and get stuck in the waiting room for 12 and some people 20 hours waiting to be seen. If this hospital is not going to treat its customers, patience or people they treat correctly then they should consider shutting it down. My condition is worse than it was when I first started out and it will take a lot for me to come back to BayStates Emergency Room ever again. I hope no one goes through the same thing that me and about 25 patients went through at Baystate in Springfield, Massachusetts. read more

Having a hard time getting the hospital to return phone calls. Was put on call back but never received a call back. Received an email saying that I will receive instructions in a couple of days once on Oct 14th and again on Oct 29th, never received an email with information. That doesn't sound very professional to me. Still waiting for a return call from Hope, I won't be holding my breath. I caution everyone. read more

My mother was in this hospital for Covid and she is 94 years old but she has dementia. But because she has dementia and she's a little feisty but the hospital staff did not even try to feed her at all the whole time she was there. If I would've left my mom there she possibly would've died. I can't believe they would treat an elderly person like this. Her bed was full of urine and they didn't even wash her up. I cannot believe this it's horrifying. if I had the money I probably would sue them. read more

It is 7:14 am on 08/22/2022. Have been waiting in the ER for 14 -Yes -14 hours now. Can't believe this. Bright lights and loud tv truly helps. Still have Not seen anyone. 14 hours to wait ???????????? I call BS. Find another facility. This one has lost its credibility and pride. Just went up to the reception desk and stated that I have been here for 14 hrs, am starving and in pain. My answer was: There is nothing we can do. Nice job Baystate. Shame, Shame, Shame. Good news - after waiting an eternity in the ER - behind the scenes are some pretty great, hard working and fantastic employees. Management - Set up for your ppl. read more

Billing office has been informed about a snag with our insurance for one specific claim (OB GYN) and given the timetable for payment (around 30 - 45 days). My wife had a visit about a week after their office was informed about the delayed insurance payment and they told her that they may not be able to treat her because she has an unpaid balance and they made her speak to someone in the billing office. This was repeated about a week later when she had another visit. They can't put a note in the system so that everyone or anyone for that matter, can just go on with business as usual until they receive the delayed payment. Instead, they choose to harass their patients multiple times (pretty sure it will happen again before insurance company makes the payment) and waste their own man hours on beating a dead horse (so to speak). Is this treating others the way they would like to be treated? Is this an efficient & effective collection policy? No it is not, it is plain & simple harassment. read more
