Merci is a 3 floor boutique store with a coffee shop in the front, household items on the bottom floor, assorted items on the main floor, and clothing and jewelry on the top floor. At the entrance, they have a lovely scenery/greenery with their signature "Merci" car, which is usually red but did see in pics that they change it out time to time to a pink car. This place is good for a coffee break and for photo ops as well as their famous merci bracelets. read more

This reminded me of an upscale hybrid of Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters all in one place, along with a cafe, used book store and a upscale hardware shop all rolled up in one. This place is NOT cheap. I saw a simple wool cloche hat I was eyeing and it was 170 Euros (about $240). When I looked at the jewelry, the clothes and shoes, all of it was quite expensive for the grunge/bohemian factor they were offering. The linens and even the hardware section down in the basement was quite expensive but I guess this is Paris and prices are high. I'm almost positive if I went to the weekly flea market in Paris, I'd be able to find the same stuff but at a much lower cost. I've also heard that many decorators and the like come here to buy home-related stuff. "Merci" clearly means "Thank You" in French and from what I understand most of the profits here goes to charities benefiting the poor island nation of Madagascar. I just went to the cafe section, had some excellent iced tea and banana cake and looked over the used books on sale to see if there may have been a title that interested me. The sales associates are super-friendly and one of them even complimented me on my Bauhaus (the 80's goth rock band) t-shirt I was wearing under a blazer. if i lived in Paris, I'd probably come by once in a while just to check out their stuff, since they do have some cute items to get some ideas but that's about it. It's too bad Paris doesn't have TJ Maxx, Winners, HomeGoods or HomeSense like we do in North America, I'm pretty sure the Parisians would go bonkers for it if they did. read more

I don't know how to describe Merci but will attempt to refer to it as a stylish, laidback, retro, swank, shop selling a unique and curious variety of furniture, kitchen and home goods, furniture, clothing and accessories, housing two cafes and something always going in with their petite auto in their entrance courtyard. It's a busy spot and fun browse if you're in the area. I am of the impression from local friends that their profits are applied to various charitable causes. read more

What caught my attention before visiting Merci were countless pictures taken of their adorable old school fiat placed within their courtyard via Instagram. So it was during my recent visit to Paris that I decided to see what the hype was all about. This cool concept store and cafe is nestled away in Paris' historic quarter of Upper Marais district and attracts everyone from locals to students and fashionistas. So whether you are someone with a small budget or large project, you are bound to find something! My most favorite part of this concept was Merci's Used Book Cafe. For me there is almost no better feeling than being surrounded by thousands of books and a cup of coffee. This little oasis is a perfect place for a rendez-vous alone or with a friend. Four stars for the cafe, two stars for the rest of the store. I was a little underwhelmed by the merchandise here. Some pretty nice stuff to look at, but not anywhere near worth the markup. And let's not even get started on those salvaged metal letters going for hundreds of euros. Those were crazy overpriced, even by Paris standards. But the cafe more than makes up for any shortcomings in the shop. The lentil salad was one of the best things I ate in Paris, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. I did also find a nice little Merci-branded sketchbook with pretty much perfect paper, so it's not like the place was completely unreasonable. Even if you don't buy anything, it's still worth coming here for a look around and a bite to eat. read more

Legendary concept store with the most beautiful clothes, great products (all have a story), a lot of space, friendly people and a nice ambiance. We also have lunch at the brasserie next door. The fresh pressed juices are amaze, I have had the juice with ginger, apple and kiwi and it was really delicious. The salads and the bar looks good and even taste good. The service was a little bit slow and showing not many interest or enthusiasm. But over all, we were surprised. If Merci would not be such an expensive place. I would definitely rate it a 5 stars! This place's beauty reaches the 5 for sure. Even though this concept store warehouse is located on such a big and busy street it is quite hidden, well quite easy to oversee. The main entrance of the shop is hidden away in this little courtyard, where the much-photographed Merci car is also located, together which a sea of plants. Inside it is so much bigger than you would expect. To rent this place must cost a fortune in expensive Paris! That must be why all the items for sale here are costing you a small fortune as well. So for me, Merci is more like a museum. I come here to admire all the beautiful stuff (homewares, decorations, fashion) and dream of this and think of that I need a good job haha. It did manage to find a very cool and reasonable priced lamp that I bought instantly. Merci is also very nice to visit for their used book café. This is like a library where you can have a nice coffee and cake. It is very charming. read more

Beautiful restaurant on the bottom floor of a little building where you can buy all kinds of cool clothing, furniture, hardware and kitchen stuff. It had fresh salads and green juices which was a refreshing change from all the heavy French food. I also saw wine and other dishes on the menu but decided on the daily menu deal where you could choose three items from a salad bar. I had a really nice pumpkin soup, lentil and endive salad and little chicken patties. Definitely worth the wait! read more

Urban Outfitters for rich tourists. Skip. Women's clothing was €300-700 a single piece, and neither luxurious nor intriguing. Housewares and overpriced smocks to wear in your imaginary Turkish bath pottery studio. "Quirky" jewelry (ugh). Many clothing styles were "hippie" without being very cutting-edge, and sized exclusively for petites (do not shop if tall). If you are a New Yorker and a guide book led you here, just throw it in the trash. There are so many other cute independent stores in this area! read more

Oh what fun! Follow this store on Instagram and you'll see what I mean. Great place to buy gifts as there is something for everyone. Slightly overpriced on some things but worth a visit no matter what your budget. There is a restaurant too, but didn't get there. The attached used bookstore is a phenomenal place to read, write or just take a rest with a coffee or glass of wine. I liked that it wasn't so *packed* full of merchandise that it was overwhelming. Two adorable cafes are right outside, and there's a juice bar right by the entrance. Ikea for yuppies ("bobo") without taste. They even have these little wire baskets, like anyone in their right mind is going to need a carrying device to load up on 25 euro enameled metal plates, 13 euro straining spoons and 6.50 euro citrus presses. It's sort of like Pottery Barn in the 1990s or Anthropologie. All this vintage-y stuff, so boringly hot right now, can be found more authentically and cheaply elsewhere. Now even the very richest can outfit themselves like simple middle class people out for a picnic in 1960. It's all here - you don't even have to try very hard, if your wallet can handle it. read more

Merci is an interesting place with a modern feel in a loft environment. On the one hand you have the store with clothing for men and women on the ground floor with a sort of urban/boho vibe and downstairs there is a whole area devoted to kitchenware with a Japanese feel. They sell lights or lamps with tissue paper over them, plastic plates that don't look like they are made of plastic, paper lunch bags not actually made out of paper, and other funny kitchen decorations. Downstairs, there is also a juice bar. On the other hand, and what I enjoyed most, at "Merci" they have library/coffee shop, right next to the boutique. There are walls of books and tables so you can just pick up something to read and enjoy your coffee. It is a step up from your traditional coffee shop where you can drink your coffee at a table but you must bring your own reading material. It's so simple but so genius: mix the library and coffee shop! The boho ambiance carries over to the coffee shop as you have books from ceiling to floor basically and lots of trendy people reading them. Very cool idea! read more

We headed here as our first excursion to this side of Paris and thought we had come to the wrong location. I was looking for French made souvenirs and thought that this place could fit the bill. There's a lot of home stuff and clothes and accessories here. It has a lot of unique, creative, and trendy items. The prices might be on the higher end to justify that. They also have a neat little restaurant attached where my fiance got to skip the shopping and chill and have a drink. It's always nice to have this as an option for those that like to shop and drink. A scone, an espresso and a table on the terrasse at cafe Merci and you've got a pretty strong start to your morning. I'll admit that the view is not the greatest in Paris, Bd Beaumarchais still has a ways to go, but the people watching is some of the best-- fancy, good looking types wander in and out of the store all day long dressed up in trendy garb, toting amazing bags and sporting the best sunglasses, shoes and scarves. The expansive sidewalk guarantees that your toes won't be trampled by passersby as you nibble one of Merci's tasty baked goods (real scones!!) or sip a freshly brewed tea. If you're a shopping maven who's got this place on your Paris checklist, go for it. Otherwise only worth bothering if you're in the neighborhood. I made a special trip to check it out and it was fine but didn't rock my world. Seen plenty of stuff like it. Nice curated collection of clothes, jewelry, knick-knacks etc. Most of it pretty pricey. There's a nice cafe -- was full when I was there (no seating available, and many people looked like they were parking there for awhile -- reading, etc.). If you're into the New York or Los Angeles fashion scene, you'll have seen plenty of "hip concept artsy cool boutique" stores like this. YMMV if it's worth a trip here just for the Parisian angle. People rave about how beautiful the store design and layout is, and yeah it's fine, but I just don't see what's so mindblowing about it, have seen plenty of places that are on a par. I'm reviewing the Used-Book Cafe on the main level. This is my all-time favorite place to read, get a cappuccino, and a homemade pastry dessert here in Paris. Even if I have to wait for a table, I don't mind because I love being surrounded by all the used books, in floor to ceiling bookshelves! The staff is very friendly, too. I ordered Pro-Vendi soap from them. I even wrote a note to them and told them that if it was the old bolt on version "DO NOT SEND". They wrote a week later and said that the bolt on version fits both the old style and the new. It made no sense. I got the soap and sure enough my clip on style didn't fit the soap. I requested a refund and here I am weeks later, after returning the soap, without a refund. Very disappointing. read more

This concept store is simply breathtaking at combines many interesting things and items. Clothing, beauty products, books, magazines, homeware and cookware. This is a little more aesthetic version of Colette which I like very much. I also find the staff to be much more friendly and polite here than at Colette. So my mom, grandma, and I came here on our first day in Paris (just a few days ago) and we decided to pop on in. I'm assuming it's an extension of Merci cause I haven't seen any pictures of the part I went to and it's literally right next door. I ordered chocolate bread and an expresso. Ugh it was amazing. It was so moist and drinking my expresso was a nice little addition to it. The service was fast and the waiters were super nice. And even better, my mom asked the waiter if she could practice her French with him and he was totally chill with it. So just to summarize: good food, good expresso, and good service. read more

High ceilings, natural lighting, treasures all sorts. If for no other reason, stop in just to look around. It's simply beautiful. Through the windows from the courtyard is their cafe (imagine a tall shoe box: on one side windows and on the other, a floor to ceiling bookshelf). Inside, the clothing is beautifully displayed (and expensive), while downstairs the home goods are inexpensively priced. I purchased two 6-packs of bud vases meant for gifts once I arrived home. I only wish I would have bought more! Too, there is a small restaurant here - I strongly recommend the salad trio: fresh, crisp and large enough for a meal.
