I always like to try out local French bakery when I am in the area because I love real crossiants! It brought me to Merci cafe today when I am visiting Sarasota. The classic (plain) crossiant I had was not bad, it was crispy, but the texture was lacking layers. It didn't give me the wow factor, I had better ones at other French bakery. I also ordered a almon croissant, the stuffing inside the crossiant was just too sweet, not to my like. Hubby liked his omelet croissant, the portion of salad is bigger than what he had at other French bakery. He also had the specialty cafe, mushallow latte, cold, he liked it. We were given a warm greeting when we walked in. We had our dog with us in a stroller, we were going to sit in the outdoor seating area, but they welcomed us to sit inside. That's nice of them. I finally had an opportunity to stop in for breakfast today and was very happy I did. I love everything French and this place is definitely French, from the owners, the background music, the modest décor, and of course, the food. My breakfast choice was Croque Madame, which came with a small salad. The simple salad came with a generous amount of vinaigrette dressing. As for the Croque Madame, which is basically a ham & cheese toasted sandwich with an egg on top, was exactly what I would expect dining in a small café in Paris. There was that crunchy bread and mild cheese flavor, a bit of ham, and the egg. I did ask for the egg to be cooked over easy, so the photo suffers a little by not having a beautiful sunny side up egg on top. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Merci Café also has a selection of bakery items they make themselves. I picked up a Chocolate Croissant for my wife, who told me it was very good and was surprised I went to breakfast without her. A well kept secret hiding in plain sight! Love this simple, unpretentious little cafe.

Merci Cafe is a lovely French bistro that is a great place to come for breakfast or lunch. The croissants are all handmade and come in a variety of different toppings and breakfast specialties. I had an omelette version with a salad side and it was very tasty. The staff is exceptionally friendly helping us place our order going over the menu items and offering up additional service as needed. You can sit inside or outside so it is quite comfortable for small or large parties. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a French style of bakery. read more

So we've passed this place a few times. Looked at some Yelp reviews - most were very good with only one trying hard to be pretentious and failing at it. First, we were seated next to a wall not far from the bathroom while tables were available out front. Ordered cappuccino which my partner said was excellent. I got a hot Latte in a glass which is preferable and it was pretty good with one exception. For our Coffees they Just had cream which we ended up getting. They also had almond milk - which I'm allergic to. No oatmilk. We were just in France 2 years ago and had no problem getting Oatmilk in any of the Cafes. But again these coffees were still good. We started out with a plain croissant which was fine but not Bouchon Bakery. Our breakfasts were good but not great. We weren't expecting or wanting a Mid-American Breakfast (you know an overly portioned one) but we were expecting something more flavorful than what we got. My partner got the tartine and I the Salmon Benedict Croissant. She said the tartine was nothing special. My dish was also just ok. We expected more after being in France and enjoying the food there. We know we were in Sarasota but still expectations were more. Service was OK. Oui?? Hmmm...maybe not so much. read more

The small cozy cafe was a delight. Got there at 8 when they opened and was greeted by the young man working the espresso machine. The place is really clean and really friendly. A little later the chef came out and said hi. We had eggs benedict on a croissant triangle. When I return Ill order a side croissant. . The plate had a little salad on it. Well dressed and tasty. My wife had the quiche lorraine. Good flavors. Fresh, hot and a flaky crust. My wife had the chilled pistachio coffee that was a little sweet but good and I had a fabulous cappuccino. I gave this place 2 chances and walked away disappointed both times. From the waitress eyeing me up and down, to the slow service, to the extremely sweet coffee, the half-filled latte, the old macarons, and very average food, it was a letdown at every level. Honestly, how do you mess up coffee? By making assumptions, like adding sugar when I never asked for it!! That alone says a lot about the service. After this second visit, I knew there wouldn't be a third. As for the amazing reviews, I can only assume the bar was set very low, because this place does not deserve the hype. read more

Well, in this case, those 5.0 reviews were spot on! The owner greeted us with a warm smile the moment we walked in, and we had such a nice conversation. The café itself was spotless, cozy, and inviting, with soft music playing in the background -- a perfect vibe for a relaxing breakfast. My wife had the Flat Benedict Croissant, which she said was the best she's ever had. I ordered the Le Croissant Omelet -- light, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We couldn't stop there and shared a Sugar Crêpe with Nutella that was simply divine. I LOVE this place and I wish I lived closer. We dropped by here on our way from Naples and had the lattes and Salmon Eggs Benedict on a toasty croissant and it was fabulous- fresh, tasty, balanced, light and healthy! The little biscuits upfront were SO good! The service was awesome! The owner is so sweet. It's obvious her and the friendly staff are very passionate about the Cafe. This lovely little cafe is recently opened. It's bright and cheery. The service was very good. our waitress was delightfully French and helpful and friendly. The lunch menu is very limited with typically French sandwiches, quiche, salad and a pate offering. All are served with a small side salad. The salad lacked enough acid to be a good vinaigrette but a squeeze of fresh lemon solved that. I had a croque monsier which was nicely prepared but ordered out of default. That's something I could make easily at home. They were out of the French onion soup. A friend had the baguette sandwich and another friend had the pate platter. The pate was beautifully seasoned, however, the texture was soggy and crumbly, suggesting it had been frozen and not made fresh. They had beautiful assortment of pastries. We opted for the flan. I would describe it more a custard pie because it had a bottom crust. read more
