They include a mix of antique pieces, which work perfectly with contemporary designs. I love the chandeliers they had throughout this most recent visit. As soo as you walk in, you can't help but fall in love, it mixes all items seamlessly, providing fun spaces, and one of a kind pieces. I've purchased a couple of jewelry items both visits, and while I would basically buy anything in the shop, it is rather pricey. But, if you are looking for pieces that truly are treasures that can be handed down, or unique items, as well as items that will last for years...then splurging isn't so bad!

*sigh* If you would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be giving Ella's anything less than 5 stars,…read moreI would have been shocked. Alas... I have been a faithful Ella's shopper for...oh man, a long, long time. 10 years at least. They used to be in this tiny, tiny place and while they did have some pricey, vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, they also had a substantial amount of real vintage, reasonably priced, *amazing* stuff. In particular, I recall that they always had once rack of adorable vintage blouses and none of them were over 30 bucks. I have an incredible lightweight black wool jacket from the 30s that is one of my all-time favorite pieces and I can think of at least three other items that I bought years ago and still adore. A few years ago or so they moved into a huge, beautiful space, still on Front Street. (Side note: I really wish they hadn't gotten rid of their old logo. It was beautiful and what they have now looks like something from Photoshop 101.) Like I said, the space is beautiful and they did a great job on the interior design, but....man, I can just not afford anything in there anymore. And I pretty much literally mean that. The bountiful rack of under-$30 blouses has been reduced to maybe 5 or so only "OK" items. Everything else is very expensive and a lot of it isn't vintage--just the same stuff you see in a lot of these high-end, plastic-y, tourist-trap "SoHo" boutiques that cater to women under a size 10. Don't get me wrong--a lot of the clothes are still beautiful and they do still have a formidable vintage section. Also, they sell Frye boots which I really, really love. I'm just disappointed to see the turn toward catering to tourists and townie yuppies with money. Something else--the staff is stylish and nice, but *way* too pushy. I hate when people try to sell me things when I'm just looking around. Also when they make me feel bad for not buying anything. I still have a place in my heart for Ella's and I still go in every time I visit T.C. I also do recommend checking it out--it is very beautiful and worth looking at! I just wish I could afford to do more than look.

Lovely clothes and jewelry at super reasonable prices. I've found some really unique interesting…read morepieces that would go for twice the price at a shop like Anthropologie (it's that style of clothes). Great news for my closet and my wallet! The jewelry is unique and a lot are made by local artisans which is also very cool. I The store is fairly small but the pieces are really nicely curated. There's also a small sale section in the back where you can get an even better bargain. The focus is obviously cotton but overall you'll find a variety of textiles and materials. Upstairs there is a home store which is pricier but the goods are fantastic. Amazing decor pieces like beautiful glass orbs/vases, metal straws, gorgeous edison bulb lighting fixtures, lots of chalkboard, tin and reclaimed wood. Minimalist and rustic. It's hard to really buy a lot here if you're on a budget but if you're looking for a nice statement piece for your home this place can provide. It's a shame it's a few hundred miles away from my house, otherwise I'd shop here all the time! But whenever I'm in TC I go out of my way to visit.

Cali's saved my Christmas…read more As ever, I left my list to the very last moment -- I think I was darkening the doors of Cali's the afternoon of the 23rd or something absurd. It was the very last shop on our loop around Front Street before hitting the car at the parking deck, so I was getting a bit anxious. Never should I have feared -- within 30 minutes I had beautiful gifts for my mother-in-law (scarf), step-mother (sweater) and mother (earrings/necklace). All the moms, done and dusted! It's a 2-part store: downstairs women's fashion and accessories and upstairs homewares and other fun oddities. They host a gorgeous selection on each. It's a true joy to shop here, a real boutique that has been on Front Street before it was cool to be there! I used to think it was very expensive (when I was 18) but now I realize that it's really great quality and thus commands a higher price. Even having said that there is a range where you can find very reasonable items all the way to pretty pricey. Depends what you are after. Though I didn't scope anything for myself on this trip (I was very focused) I'll definitely return for a bit of indulgence. This place (like Boutique a la Vie) is all muted, understated elegance and style and I am surely picking up what they are putting down. Well done, Cali's! And thank you from all of my mothers :)

It is filled with so many whimsical items perfect for gifting or treating yourself. It is beautifully curated and laid out in a way that you just want to bring the entire section home. The staff is always kind and friendly and no matter how many times you pass through. It's smallish quaint interior you will find something different upon each pass. We never leave without a few stickers and other ass sort of gifts. Price is very between reasonable and high, but when you're in a place this whimsical somehow you don't mind treating yourself.

There are little sections dedicated to specific themed items like plants and planters, stickers, woodland/mushroom things, candles, textiles, etc. I think I walked the length of the store 2-3 times making sure I caught everything because there we so many places to look and things to see! I feel like words don't quite do the selection justice. Check my photos for a better idea! In the end I treated myself to a cute new backpack covered in mushrooms and other cute woodland things and some stickers, including a few from local Michigan artists I had already been familiar with and some that were new to me! Loved this shop and I will make it a point to visit every time I'm in the area! OMG I just discovered they have a website. I'm going to get into a lot of trouble in person and from a few hours away!
