I guess it makes sense that since I started my thrifting "career" in the Traverse City area that I should hit up a few gems when I'm back at the homestead. My mother and grandmother are PROS. Like, put me to shame, find the best deals around, make a 3-legged table work like a champ PROS. So, if they both love Zany, there's a reason I need to go. And I found out...YES. It is. If you are on the circuit, lookin' to score some cheaper duds, or need to refresh with some new accessories...I'd make a stop here. A few useful notes: *inventory rotates every 60 days, so the shelves are always fresh. *upstairs houses the "sale" racks, anywhere from 30-50 percent of ticket prices *this is a consignment shop, so bring in your gently-used, fashionable stuff for them to sell - you'll get 40 percent. (my mom is a big fan, and basically just uses her consignment funds to buy new-to-her items) *They do not send checks for consignors, but it just means you get to come back! A great excuse *Easy/free parking on the street. *Located right behind Sleder's, cute yellow house A-frame. *Open everyday, even Sundays! (limited hours on Sundays...I think 12-4) *They accept credit cards. *They have a fitting room! One hang-up: Pricing seems a bit scattered, perhaps because they have different people performing this task. Prices can vary quite a bit for items I thought were of similar quality/brand, and some of the cheaper brands (Target/Forever21) are a bit overpriced. However, the items I got were AWESOME and very well-priced, so do not be discouraged and keep looking! This is def not Salvation Army/Goodwill style, so do know that. You'll still be able to score VERY nice stuff at a fraction of store prices, but you won't leave with a bag of clothes for $5. It's somewhere between dirt cheap and new. :) My scores: *A beautiful bright yellow hobo bag that looks brand new! $14.99. Perfect for my laptop. *hint, scour the displays up on the shelves. * Jcrew scarf, $7.99 pinks, reds, olives...so cute and perfect for winter to spruce things up! (also nabbed from a display!) I'll definitely stop back in, might even be worth hauling up my duds to trade in next time I drive home!

Located next to Sleder's Tavern. Charming old house filled with cute clothes and accessories.

They consistently have cute clothing and accessories here in every visit. Each summer my mom and I come up to Traverse City to eat, drink, and shop. We love hitting the resale and consignment boutiques. Zany's is the best by far. They have 2 locations in TC and we like both. I alway leave there with a bag or two!

This green sweater is from Zany and is floor length with a mermaid bottom opening! I get tons of compliments on it.

A wonderful store. Very well organized and clothes displayed well! I don't live in Cleveland but I'd definitely shop here often.

The charm of the other location, in an old house near Sleder's tavern, is hard to compete with.

They include a mix of antique pieces, which work perfectly with contemporary designs. I love the chandeliers they had throughout this most recent visit. As soo as you walk in, you can't help but fall in love, it mixes all items seamlessly, providing fun spaces, and one of a kind pieces. I've purchased a couple of jewelry items both visits, and while I would basically buy anything in the shop, it is rather pricey. But, if you are looking for pieces that truly are treasures that can be handed down, or unique items, as well as items that will last for years...then splurging isn't so bad!

*sigh* If you would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be giving Ella's anything less than 5 stars,…read moreI would have been shocked. Alas... I have been a faithful Ella's shopper for...oh man, a long, long time. 10 years at least. They used to be in this tiny, tiny place and while they did have some pricey, vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, they also had a substantial amount of real vintage, reasonably priced, *amazing* stuff. In particular, I recall that they always had once rack of adorable vintage blouses and none of them were over 30 bucks. I have an incredible lightweight black wool jacket from the 30s that is one of my all-time favorite pieces and I can think of at least three other items that I bought years ago and still adore. A few years ago or so they moved into a huge, beautiful space, still on Front Street. (Side note: I really wish they hadn't gotten rid of their old logo. It was beautiful and what they have now looks like something from Photoshop 101.) Like I said, the space is beautiful and they did a great job on the interior design, but....man, I can just not afford anything in there anymore. And I pretty much literally mean that. The bountiful rack of under-$30 blouses has been reduced to maybe 5 or so only "OK" items. Everything else is very expensive and a lot of it isn't vintage--just the same stuff you see in a lot of these high-end, plastic-y, tourist-trap "SoHo" boutiques that cater to women under a size 10. Don't get me wrong--a lot of the clothes are still beautiful and they do still have a formidable vintage section. Also, they sell Frye boots which I really, really love. I'm just disappointed to see the turn toward catering to tourists and townie yuppies with money. Something else--the staff is stylish and nice, but *way* too pushy. I hate when people try to sell me things when I'm just looking around. Also when they make me feel bad for not buying anything. I still have a place in my heart for Ella's and I still go in every time I visit T.C. I also do recommend checking it out--it is very beautiful and worth looking at! I just wish I could afford to do more than look.
